That's a good idea using pvc, I do the same thing but I use a solid peice of stick,preferably a flexible type about the same diameter of the hole of the foam. the stick will hold up to all out swings. Sometimes the pvc will eventually crack due to too much flex.
That is a great idea. You could use a heavier stick in the middle for more weight if wanted to but PVC is a great idea.
