  • So cheerful and high spirited. Rest in peace Rodger, your videos always made my day.

  • Rodger i will miss your videos, I always looked forward to them in my subscription box....like you have said so many times before "Until next time." Goodbye Rodger RIP

  • its great to still be able to see his average life in japan up until the recent events...goodbye rodger, you will be missed.

  • Rest in Peace Rodger.

  • i like candycorn lol

  • Goosebumps rule , I read all of'em in 7th grade

  • Aw. So easily amused.

  • 8:06 you said you saw Boogiepop Phantom right? Remember the light from the beginning!

  • This is my favorite Iwate Swan BY FAR. I don't know what it is about it but i keep watching this episode.

  • There's something Pokemon-ey in every episode. I wish I could be in Japan!

  • Oh Swan, you lovable dork! Like, I'm one to talk, I went as Ringu's Sadako. I WORE A DRESS! Though I looked bad ass scary!

  • its nice to see u have kept ur enthusiasm about ur favorite holiday. Im always sad when halloween comes around but i can't go trick or treating anymore (too old and they dont celebrate it too much in france). Is there much trick or treating amongst the kids in japan?

  • there's actually no trick or treating in japan (at least as far as I know of). In fact, one of the japanese teachers here told me most kids don't really "learn" about halloween until the fifth grade....

  • OH also, last year's Halloween pocky was pumpkin flavored and awesome xD

  • that arcade is awesome :S

  • "Boo dudes, Frightmaster Swan here"

    Gangstaaaaaaaa

  • "Boys and ghoul's"

    I lol'd xD

  • Hey, you've changed a lot since your Tokyo days. You've got a much more mature tone in your voice now. It's cool.

Oh, and I'm digging the new intro song. :)

  • hey Rodger - I have a question concerning how to pronounce the word katakana. A student of mine gave a speech on it today and he said it differently then I've heard it said before. He said he has Rosetta stone and they say it the way he says it, I was just wondering what the proper way to say it is. Thanks

  • japanese is phonetic so it should sound like how it is spelled. ka-ta-ka-na. wonder how the student said it? i've never used rosetta stone, so not sure how that goes about teaching things..

  • tHE MUSIC IN THE ARCADE SCENE IS THE SAME ASI IN SWAN'S JAPANESE HORROR REVIEWS, RIGHT?

  • yup.

  • i think you should do a vid of you like talking/interviewing your students or something like that

i always laugh when i see people look at you like your weird cuz your talking into a camera, do you get people coming up to you and asking why your talking into a cam for?

    also *clicks subscribe button*

    cant wait for more vids

  • you are the only one who likes candy corn

  • That is false, as I also like candy corn! And valentine hearts!

But yeah, thanks for telling me about Blogger Beware, Rodger! It's been a fun read so far!

  • what kind of camera are you useing?

  • canon sd powershot

  • Any mos burger or freshness burger nearby?

  • there's a mos burger in town, and i saw a freshness burger in morioka actually.

  • i saw a pikachu on the poster

  • I love candy corn! I like your cool hat and the nightmare before merchandise they have in Japan.

  • sweet kitchen

  • Ha, happy late Halloween! And yes, funny you found a Michigan shirt there of all places haha.

  • Happy Horrorween!

  • ...yo look quite old for only being 22 lol

  • you're such a legend man

  • timberlake san yoroshiku!

  • ....Roger you ARE a dork! lol Don't worry though, thats a good thing. This vid just reminded me I have an old closet full of goosebumps books....hmm makes me myself wanna go back and read them!

  • You're only going to be 23?! Wow I feel old haha. Pocky! Mm. No candy corn?! NO!! FYE here sells Pocky. I wonder if they do Halloween? I'll have to check next yr. Cute with the mask! I'm glad you've gotten some good "Goosebumps" books! Very cute board!! Some cute drawings. I like it. :) I hope you can do an episode soon of your school! Hope you have/had a happy Halloween!

  • XD HAPPY HALLOWEEN XD swan hhehehehheheh the haunted mask was awesome as there the 2nd one as well hehehehe must be somethin else to be a teacher eh?? ehhehe

  • they have a dollar store (100 yen) there???? lol wow lol

  • oh yeah, 100 yen stores are super common these days... and you can get a lot of great stuff from them! I find myself visiting them at least once a week to be honest.

  • Great episode Rodger. Happy Halloween :)

  • I wouldn't spend your money on Paranormal Activity, especially with the cost of seeing movies in Japan. Everyone I talk to either hates it or thought it was really scary, since you watch a lot of horror films I doubt you'll even flinch a little, I didn't anyways...

  • Dude I relish this time of year JUST for the Candy Corn, although Candy Pumpkins are better to me.

  • Omg Goosebumps! I had 20 (or less can't remember) *o*

  • haha 'd love to experience ハロウィーン in Japan :(

  • You seem like you would make a good vampire. I dunno /shrug.

  • I cannot believe you have already done 13 episodes! I feel like it was just yesterday you annouced you were back to Japan.

  • I know! Time goes by so quickly, and I feel having a monday-friday full time job only makes things go by even faster....

  • Tell me about it. I've been working at Starbucks for a year now. Doesn't even seem like it! Been dating a great guy for 8 months now too! Time goes by so fast...

  • More like dorky creepy. Like hey kids come and get some candy creepy...pocky mask...you look so sad when you eat the pocky stick LOL. Your wall looks great and your class did well with their art as well. The "Friends" drawing on the board was interesting.

  • awesome really enjoyed this halloween edition

  • Hey rodgerswan!!!!. I have a movie question. Is "Paranormal Activity" playing in Japan???

I would really like your thoughts on it.

    PLZ PLZ REPLY!!!

    5/5 10/10 100/100

    GREAT VID

  • P.S. Sorry..Paranormal Activity is one of the hottest movie in the states now..lol.

  • haha umm, I don't think so.... usually it takes a few months for a lot of the movies to get here (they need to translate for subtitles), and I have not heard of that one being here yet.... could be wrong though haha.

  • Great to know I booked 20 seconds of your time haha! Thanks for the shout out c:

Your school's view is gorgeous, I have to say. And your little Display is so cute! It's really nice to see your students becoming involved in English in any way they can. And some of them can REALLY draw!

Oh, and yes, the mask was horribly dorky, but it's Halloween so all is forgiven!

    Yay for lucky number 13!

  • 2:53 - I was laughing so much at the Pocky mask!!

By the by, I'm going to be turning 24 on December! My birthday is actually Pearl Harbor Day! How crazy is that?

So how are the Goosebumps books?

  • the goosebumps are good! and i just got book 6 "let's get invisible" in the mail today haha!

  • Awesome! My favorite of the Goosebumps books, and I believe one of the first that I read, was Monster Blood III. What's one of your favorites?

  • That is indeed very trippy that you are from Michigan and you find a Michigan sweatshirt in a store in Iwate. You should have told them you were actually from Michigan, maybe they would have given you a free shirt...before they smashed your camera. :-)

  • Rodger you lucky man i spent my halloween standing out for 2 hours present swords for homecoming king and queen/ court

  • Candy corn was always towards the low end of trick or treat scores. The Holy Grail was of course a full sized candy bar, but the mini bars were alright if they gave you more than one.

The worst thing was pennies, and of course if you got an apple you had to throw it away to be safe. There was dentist in my neighborhood that handed out toothbrushes, LOL.

Do kids actually trick or treat in Japan?

  • nope no trick or treating here haha. funny, i was just explaining to my students how much it always sucked to get pennies on halloween heh heh.

  • Love it man awesome vid cool hair :].

  • when is your car video coming out?

  • hmm not sure. no plans right now for the next few weeks. might be more interesting to do a car video about driving in the snow lol....

  • I like your mask!

  • Woah, you've got some pretty talented artists in your class...

  • I like candy corn. ^^

    ...the store I work in has no halloween stuff left, it's all been replaced with christmas stuff. -_-;

  • Your puns are on the same level as the Crypt Keeper.

  • old and crusty heh.

  • this episode was so funny and epic. you should seriously do all your shows with the mask on. lol hilarious!

  • happy howloween

  • hey, i just noticed. it's your 13 episode, and a halloween special!

    wierd coinsidence, right? XD

  • i know... spooky huh? haha :)

  • Great video!! Glad to see you're getting in the Halloween spirit. Happy Halloween!!

  • I think this was one of your best vids yet - I lol'd a LOT

  • Ha ha...that's what Jason Voorhees would wear in Japan...A Pocky Mask!! LOL! Happy Halloween Roger!

  • People buying books. Almost as wasteful as people who buy music :P

  • Everyone in Tokyo, let's rent a van, drive up to Iwate, and crash at Roger's pad.

You need to be more discreet when filming. Flip Ultra HD in a shirt pocket with the front light deactivated.

  • damn right! I'm down!

  • Dude, look for Pumpkin pocky. It's more in the spirit of Halloween and it's so good. :P Are you in need of the 'Choose your own scare' goosebumps books too? I have a couple of those.

  • always happy to receive any kind of goosebumps books :) send me a private message if you're serious about sending some :)

  • hahahah *XD soo cute! <3

  • Great episode. And man, thats an amazing view.

  • wow, you were spoiled with 6 books at once. Ask and ye shall receive, eh?

  • Why does it say a lovely halloween in English if your in Japan?

  • I don't know. You'll see A LOT of english on japanese products, tv shows etc...

  • i love candy corn lol

  • Hows your woman handling you living in Japan? Thats gotta blow.

  • We are both handling it the best we can. Might do a video devoted to a Long Distance Relationship later on. But yeah, we are going stronger than ever!

  • Did anyone else hear a kid say "I can do it!" at 4:11?

  • Happy Halloween! Great video!

  • Don't worry I'm 25 and I have friends that are over 30 that still like dressing up for Halloween.

  • Woohoo! You used some music from your J-horror vids! Brings back good memories..

  • haha glad you enjoyed that bit!

  • i like candy corn

  • SAME HERE

  • I think the best goosebump book is horrorland, so much better then the tv serie

  • ahh book 16, yes I remember that one well :)

  • yeah very good indeed, very scary feeling to the book

Also the book is in 2 parts if I am not mistaken

The tv serie on the other hand just feels like a random half scary show for 12 year olds

  • Candy corn FTW!

  • LOVE TEH CANDY KORN

  • I know I miss it so much haha!

  • I'm with yah man. I'll be 22 early next year. :( That's cool to see that the leaves change color there too. Loved the Halloween displays. :) Only one more day!

  • it must be crazy to drive in that country like driving on the other side must be weird

  • it's a little daunting at first, but you get used to it very quickly actually.

  • THAT HAT!!=O black blood brothers=P

  • haha nice, you're right!

  • Going to be 23??? Man you are still a very young man. I'm about to turn 35! I'm officially can be tried as an adult for everything lol! However I still get carded for buying a beer...I don't get it! Wheres that really cute asian girl that took you on a tour of the city in one of your older Tokyo Swan vids?

  • epic goosebump book pulls!

    enjoy them!

  • I like your mask!

  • I really love how the school looks, exactly like you see in anime!

One question, do schools actually play that little chime noise when school starts?

  • I've never heard a chime in the moring. But at noon it plays the theme from "the sound of music" strange haha...

  • Wow cool, insanely fast reply btw!

  • Ahh goosebumps, the memories ^o^ Good to have another video as always, especially a halloween one! :D

  • hahaha scary facemask. youre too funny to scare me. nice vid.happy halloween

  • I just watched "The scarecrow walks at midnight" episode on Cartoon Network a few days ago! I miss those books, and YOU HAVE THE BEST COSTUME EVER.

  • oh man, i love it when cartoon network shows goosebumps in october!

  • It is the total shizniz.

  • Cool video! I'm wondering how Japanese celebrate Halloween, or they just don't. I suddenly remember your old times when your reviewing J-Horrors =) I'm actually thinking of a horror movie (or a J-Horror movie) to watch for this Halloween season

Not really a fan of Goosebumps but I do remember I watched some few episodes of its TV show

    The video is cool! Thanks!

  • I have a question? How much would a 12 day trip to that part of japan run me on money? And for the most part maybe a list of cheap places to eat and what not? I would really appreciate if you could let me in on some info. Happy Halloween.

  • depends where you are coming from. If within the japan, then a few hundred dollars on shinkansen and then whatever hotels cost. If outside the countries, a few thousand dollars. Depends what airport you would eventually fly into....

  • Thank you so much for the info. I'm trying to get me and some of my good buddies to come around that way for sightseeing and what not. Tokyo would be great to see, just looks really slam pack full of people to meet. But for the most I would love to see the country side of japan. Looks like a very refreshing experience

  • Goosebumps....oh, my, god...I forgot ALL about those! Nice video spooky swan.

  • Good video Rodger you have shown another side of Japan especially what Halloween is like in a more rural part of Japan. I've seen videos about Halloween in big cities... it was all "sexy" Halloween stuff, it was nice to see in your video a more family oriented Halloween

  • thanks! halloween is my favorite holiday, and i hate how it has become a day for people to be super trashy. I like all the fun monsters and silly scary stuff :)

  • hey I'll be 23 in 2 months but anyways, like always a pleasure to watch your vids.

  • no HD =[

  • video is still processing since it was just uploaded. it will be in HD in a little bit, and look much better....

  • what does pocky taste like? Looks like it would be like kitkats...

    You have really nice students

You know they sell goosebumps books on ebay for cheap (like 10-20 books in a pack). Last time I checked 2 months ago.

  • kind of like kitkats yeah haha. yeah my students are awesome!

i've seen the goosebumps on there, the lots are a good price yeah, but shipping to japan is not always the best heh.

  • Awesome Video! Yet again Swan puts out an awesome vid. I am still to send you those goosebumps books but i'm getting around to it. Anyway Halloween is my favorite holiday of the year it's just so much fun!!

  • boys and ghouls ?.. hehe.. cant stop laughing.. dont know why.. must be that i'm smashed and really sleepy.. thanks for the laugh..
