  • Try to put some skin and fins into it so it will look more like a fish rather than a big tadpole!

  • I thought i would see a school of fish. Not three fish moving slowly forward..

  • Do robots find watching robot fish calming?

  • but the question remains... will it blend?

  • I'm not sure what this has to do with Front 242.

  • As once Qui-Gon Jinn said: "There is always a bigger fish."

  • They never mention the military uses for such a device, the military it is bound to be the top customer of such a product.

  • Welcome to the next generation of sub hunting torpedo. Sham these guys think it will be used to research fish and whale life.

  • NEXT > robot sperm

  • @2ftpmarco Shut up you prick

  • One channel as sonar comm, other as sonar sensor. Preferably around 1420hz.

  • Omg I need one.Finely a fish that won't die lol

  • More likely it will be used for military applications, they usually are the ones funding such research.

  • I am willing to bed the battery dies before anything eats it and it falls down to the botton of the ocean as a worthless piece of junk.

  • @gegilso unless they but a charging command and a solar panel on its back. moves up to the surface at 25% power and charges for a few hours.

  • @kaziklu78 lol ok then only to get eaten 12 hours later

  • Shark: mmmm yummy looking

    *Bite!*'

    *ugh!*

Fish explodes inside it and shark dies

    THE END

  • these are impressive

  • Where are the friggin laser beams attached to their friggin heads?!?!

  • @domino592 Lasers don't really work well to cause damage underwater because of a refraction issue. So even if we wanted, unless it was a big emitter it'd be useless. >.<

  • @Blueoriontiger Somebody has never seen Austin Powers

  • HOW CUTE!!!

  • Ya then a shark comes by and swallows it whole. $1000 down the gullet so to speak

  • @litrehead And the robot fish has a self-destruct and goes BOOM!

  • there going to be used for the military the ability to track your enemy without ever being there is invaluble

  • We all know that 'one day this technology has the potential to do this' means we are never going to hear of robot fish ever again.

  • @TheBene1995 his blender blend anything!

  • i really want one do you sell them????

  • nice

  • could be used for military research!^^

  • thats ssome fancy tape you got on that thurr robit

  • I love how they cut away before the thing face smashed into the wall.

  • Or you could use them in goverment undercover misions. Put a couple of those in a fountain with microfones and vuala.

  • @willemixi it would probably be too easy to spot..... but good idea

  • t would be funny if a shark tries to eat one>.>

  • @elevadon lol swimming turd

  • swimming bombs!!!

  • MOAR DEATHRAYS!!!

  • Robot fish will explore and navigate waters yet still taste like chicken and stink when caught.

  • i will buy those if you did what theintoxicant siad

  • i'm suprised the top two comments aren't about terminator.

  • @shadowtygo

    oh the irony

  • where is the torpedo ?

  • so when the battery runs out does it sink or float?

  • @Bongwater123 explode AtomicExplosion

  • it would be funny if they went and got et by a giant shark

  • These things won't make it a day in the open sea....sharks are curious about any electric signal and you disguised it into a fish??? yeah f...brilliant.........

  • Maybe we can use them against Asian carp....

  • man theres funny people on youtube

  • @immafirinsomting

Correction, youtube bring out all of the stupid people to lazy to gain an education besides what they can find on youtube.

  • Optimus primes sushi.

  • whats the point

  • all these robot vids are narrated by british people

  • Are they.....ill tempered....robotic sea bass??

  • they will be eaten by bigger fish.

  • @aaron1983 i concur

  • the pet fish that never dies

  • Hm.. I was just thinking about how we should upgrade our useless non robot fishes.

  • Scientist A -

Ok everyone! We've spent countless hours, money, blood, sweat and tears to get to this point. This will be the first real world test of this amazing new technology. So here we go! (drops fish into water)

    Scientist B-

A shark just ate your fish.

  • I WANT SHARKS WITH LAZERS ATTACHED TO THEIR HEADS

  • lets use this to fix that pipe THATS STILL OPEN AND POURING

  • @Godzilla614 Nope. Won't handle the pressure. You wonder why is so hard to stop the leak? Murderous pressure and crappy visibility.

  • I want a couple small ones in a fish tank! Of course they need to swim to the recharger themselves like the lawn mower does ;o)

Would make for some stunned faces..

  • COOK DEM POKEMONS!

  • what if whent its following a whale a shark eats it ??

  • AI ? Or fish-brains? anyone?

  • COOL!!!!!!!!

  • Isn't it supposed to short circuit?

  • @dakilla816 they are well isolated from the water.

  • So what if a shark tries to eat one? You get one dead shark and a broken robot.

  • @soccermafia89 wait till they make robot sharks.

  • perfect spy bots

  • @AxenZoku well, if people were honest, we wouldn't need spies

  • Surely if you got them to communicate using sonar and you were you to use them in the sea, it'd confuse other marine life that does the same thing?

  • After testing they will be used to find the location of John Connor.

  • @tecguySD Well, i guess the Terminator crap isn't over used yet...

  • @Vacen Never

  • ...robot fish...will i guest there doing something

  • In time it will just be eaten by a bigger fish

  • Yeah but I don't see why they always make them fish like. You need to make them in some other shape so that they won't be swallowed by other fish.

  • ha haaaa haaa!!

  • kann man sie essen xD

  • thats really awesome but can you make it swim even faster and put lasers on it

  • @MultiCrazyPenguin Sharks with laser beam attached to their heads

  • WERE GONNA EAT ROBOT FISHES ;O

  • omg no stop on mankinds sick experiment.

put a stick through a fish is so mean.

  • They wont track sea life...they'll be eaten by sharks.

  • it should use echolocation

  • lol, cute

  • LIXO

  • yay robot sushi!

  • what the hell lol it's just sensors...

  • and let then swim faster :p

  • wel put on a cam then put them in sea :p

  • yeah but will they travel in a school in more open water? lol

  • Will robot fish be used to help recover under water wreckage?

  • it be funny if you went fishing and caught one..... bet its worth alot

  • @123JRR456 sims 3 much?

  • @123JRR456 ahahaha "aw thatll feed the family for months"

  • then you could strap a bomb to it, imagine what that could do

  • i think usa is using these fish aready as spys

  • I wonder if sea life will mistake these for real fish and eat them...

Also, what effect would more sources of sonar have on ocean life, particularly those that use sonar/ ecolocation?

  • @Jefferdaughter well actualy sharks detect their prey not only with thier nose, but also by using electromagnitism. how? i dont know. so that could be a very big problem asumming the "fish" have a bunch of radios and mechanical parts.

  • @footballhokie The signals sent by the brain to nerves ARE electricity.

  • @Sublimnalxx uhh... isnt that what i said?

  • @footballhokie " well actualy sharks detect their prey not only with thier nose, but also by using electromagnitism. how? i dont know."

You said I don't know, I'm explaining that they sense the signals sent out by other organisms. And if you mean HOW they sense them.. Living organisms emit a tiny electrical field, however, since the prey is in saltwater it is conducted far better and the shark can sense it through electroreceptive organs in pores inside the shark's snout.

  • @Sublimnalxx well i know that living organisms emit electomagnetic pulses, i just dont know how the shark detects them (somthing to do with sensors). i mean can you detect fish or people or other organisms?

  • @footballhokie They have electroreceptive organs that allow them to detect other organisms. I dont know exactly how they work, but if youre really interested you can look it up.

  • @Sublimnalxx thats kinda what i ment by i dont know. but thanks for you help and i hope you understood that this wasnt an angry argument. at least i didnt interpret it as such

  • @footballhokie Me neither, I found the answer to your question.

  • a gimmick relative to today's tech ??

  • Comment removed

  • needs lasers.

  • what a stupid idea!

    fish meat, LOL

  • what if they're cought by a fishermen or swallowed by a whale ?

  • i want a whole army of fishbots O_O

  • great, one shark and all is gone :)

  • what a stupid video...

  • What if these things work but are eaten all the time by bigger fish?

  • I imagine it would be easy to equip them with tools to repel and defend against most predators. In theory, it may even be possible to make them faster than most known predators....

  • @NGBiGLlama Thats Highly unlikely because, fish eat prey that they know they are suppose to eat by instinctive smell and movement, thats why you dont see fish eating random fish when ever hungry unless its in there food chain and they sense it is by smell and movement (the way they move) and these are robots , so they don't have any kind of attractive smell for fish, and there movement is highly unlikely to by the same as another species because every species of fish has a very specific movement

  • HA HA, you made me laugh so hard. Your comments are insightful and it is great knowing people appreciate your work:).

The point of the project is to develop communication hardware and schemes as well as control algorithms that will allow robots to work together in performing the tasks given to them.

The fish robots themselves have been built for the students and their professors to test the hardware and algorithms developed in a 3D environment.

Google Nonlinear Dynamics and Controls Lab.

  • You guys aren't that bright =(. It was a student project at the university of washington. Should probably stop talking and go back to school.

  • Just think, Some company gave these guys hundreds of thousands to create electronic fish. What a waste of engineering dollars. For the same amount of money you could bring water to thousands of third world people..... so fucking stupid

  • I'm sure people said the same about steam when it was first proposed.

"Ha ha, pressurised steam, you can't do anything with that!"

Besides which, I really doubt this hundreds of thousand of (insert currency).

I'm a robotics student myself, and I could probably put together one of these things for under a hundred quid (about a hundred bucks at today's exchange rate).

  • All of this, and probably half a million dollars to make it. And they set it in the ocean after decades of funding and everyone cheers and -

And a fucking whale surfaces and eats it. And everyone realises how fucking dumb THAT idea was.

  • Everything you said is false, except for the last part. Robot fishes are a necessary part of a whales diet.

  • Fallacy.

Whales actually dont give a flying FUCK what they eat. : ) Yes, oh yes, their diet mainly consists of plankton and krill, but if you happen to get in the way of the giant mouth coming up at you full throttle, then your just a piece of chopped pork in the pasta, so to speak.

    I WIN. SO THAR. : D

  • @tw1stedgrudge You might have won that point, however you had better hope there are no robot engineers around the next time you decide to go for a swim.

Those fish could be made much bigger you know, and they can easily be fitted with chomping teeth.

  • I could be fitted with chomping teeth too. : /

Or an EMP unit. : )

  • @tw1stedgrudge It has taken me less than a minute to design and sketch out a robot fish with the required counter measure, a spring loaded detonator which reacts to EMP pulses by triggering a rather large thermo-nuclear device. Just have to work out what colour to paint it, that's the fun part.

Robot fish are expendable, I only have so much maroon paint though, next one will have to be beige.

You do not want to be nuked by a beige robot fish believe me. such anti style is difficult to live down.

  • Sorry, should've really said beforehand - I'm actually impervious to thermo-nuclear devices. Infact, I even believe I may get stronger from them, since they may release various nutritious vitamins and make me grow in size.

So that I may once again destroy Tokyo.

Your plan has failed! You'll never save Tokyo now! Fwahahahahaha!

  • @tw1stedgrudge If you want to enter Tokyo covered in insoluble glowing beige paint then that is your prerogative.

You won't make many friends that way though.

  • Beige is a wonderul colour. : ) And I'm very anti social in any case, so I should have no bother. But thanks for your worrying. xD lol

  • @tw1stedgrudge That is all good and well, but that my money is on the little kid who would normally be saying "Gozeelaa !".. turning away with a tear in his little eye..

Gozeelaas are not supposed to be beige.

It is a bit of a delayed action thing, but I can't see your heart being in it after that. You will have to go back to monster island and take the ridicule from the regular green and brown monsters until the rads wear off.

Tokyo will survive, just about, yet again.

  • But the other monsters on monster island may not.

I ates them all, after all.

  • @tw1stedgrudge Wow, you saved the world from monsters! Everybody celebrates by declaring 'World beige day', Tokyo air drops you the keys to the city.

The little kid in jumps up and down screaming "Gozeelaa" repeatedly (Japanese child psychologists coin the phrase 'Gozeelaaosis').

But the last maroon Robot fish was still on mission it explodes in your vicinity, thus and you become marooned.

It's for the best. it cures the kid and 9 billion working days are added back to the world economy.

  • Then the little Gozeeellaaaosis kid contracts a mixture of cancer and flesh eating faschiitis, and dies horribly, melting in his own bodies bile. Far off in America, the reincarnations of Harris and Klebold go onto their computer and divide by zero, thus destroying the world in a climactic ending reminiscient of End of Evangelion.

The sun sets, and all is right once more with the world.

Until the next time someone invents something so fucking stupid. o_O

  • @marsCubed bahahahaha thats hilarious hahaa

  • where are the frik'n lasers?

  • thank you

  • someday we will catch a robot fish of army for lunch

  • haha

and cut it with laser knife

to clean it off of gears

  • yea right,,amy sez,,ok ,,how do we weponize it? well the sonar can patroll waterways,,on board shape charges can kill submarines, stop shipping lanes,,, great robat fish.

  • Yeah they can program it to do all that.

Then a sea lion will swallow it in one gulp.\

    Brilliant.

  • Yeah, you think fishing lures work well to get fish to bite? These would be like the ultimate lure. They would get eaten all the time by unsuspecting ocean predators.

  • if they actually put those robot fishies in the ocean something is gonna eat it and die

  • i played the game and beat the game. good times.

  • is that ps1 game?

  • lol

  • hmm.. i'd stick with radio.. sonar is messing with marine wildlife enough as it is.

  • i would love them to make robotic gold fish for lil kiddys...

  • robot octopus please using similar tech to those snakes

  • Lol.. Rescue operations? Arent there robots already doing that? That can go depths humans shouldnt or cant? I think all that has been done i think they would just make an awesome toy.. lol

  • i like this they would make cool pets if they ran on battery packs and you could drop a new pack into the water and it would assemble itself and discard the old pack to be fished out and recharged

  • you could make them explosive and have them go under eanamy ship and blow the ship up...

  • that is an awesome idea!! and they could collect lintel too :O

  • Submarines will come by and eat them... :)

  • Some fish eat anything that moves, you know.

  • i know a better use for these robots:

rescue operation after planes are crashed

these robots could coordinate rescues in water which is too cold for humans.

    just think

  • if its too cold for humans, they may die really fast... they may be useful for body recovery...

  • exactly, robots picking through human remains

    pretty grisly thoughts....

    :(

  • but surely if its too cold for humans, there wouldnt be anything to rescue...

  • what if a whale wants a snack?

  • What happens when a REAL big fish eats 'em?

  • great idea. Not much has been done in the field of swarming bots yet these guy have stepped it up a bit.

  • Awesome

  • Might want to make your robots not appear tasty to predators before you put them out there to save drowning fishermen.

  • Lol.

  • yeah, put warning coloration on them, like poisonous fish do.

  • That looks great!

  • wow now i can just read the head lines "school of highly expensive robot fish eaten"
