@ffm20zaheri Well I was wondering that! Only because of the white on black painted faces. Very much like his art work on Propaganda's Mabuse video & single art. Also the early 90's Depeche sleeve art. i would say it is! But i'm not a betting sort of person ;-)

The BEST breakdance shit of ALL time. Where's the version with the stalling car in the background? None of these vids seem to be the right version. I LOVE that part. lol
@boofdfast This is the 1st version from their abulm "Into Battle With The Art Of Noise". This isn't even the full version of the song, plus the video is kinda whack? The version with all the extra sound effects is from their next album "Who's Afraid Of The Art Of Noise". It's posted here. I just watched it! Just take another look. It's there ;) I hope I helped? Enjoy.
WHACK? LXO, just THANK GOD we DO have an edit of the ORIGINAL version for the video as opposed to the alternate "Diversion I" cut they put together a year later. It was good to know that they expanded on "Beat Box", but when they used "Diversion I" as the cut on their greatest hits album in 1989 WITHOUT EVEN CREDITING IT as "Diversion I", it was a MAJOR disappointment to me as a record collector and a dirty trick pulled upon us by The Art Of Noise. > Professor DLC
@DLCOrganization Many thanks for your response. I think you may have misunderstood that part of my comment. It's late, but I will follow up with you soon. Peeese!
@DLCOrganization Lol! I guess I forgot to get back to you on this, oops! Anyway, I got introduced to this CLASSIC cut in reverse order. Diversion I is the first version I heard of "Beat Box" after it was already quite popular. I didn't hear the Original version until about a year later! It was on a mix tape from a local radio station one of my little brother's friends loaned me. Diversion I is awesome, but the Original is my favorite version and proved much harder to find back in the day? ;)
i offered to deliver some leaflets for some fella back in the mid 80s and this album was on me headset, anyway i picked up the leaflets walked out of the rd wer he lived round the corner and up the main rd. Halfway up the main rd i dumped the leaflets over a garden fence without even thinking wer id just come from. It was the back gardens of wer id pcked em up from and his neighbours garden lol. I never did get any more work off the fella and me luck still aint changed and im 40 now lol
This wasn't just Trevor Horn. Art of Noise were Paul Morley, Trevor Horn, Gary Langan, Anne Dudley and J.J. Jeczalik originally. Most of these had previously been involved with Malcolm McLaren's single Buffalo Girls, and his album Duck Rock. Anne Dudley, J.J. Jeczalik, and Gary Langan split from Trevor Horn/Paul Morley in 1985, releasing a number of albums.
Art of Noise's final incarnation consisted of Anne Dudley, Lol Crème, Paul Morley and Trevor Horn.
Trevor Horn will never get his due for being one of the most influential and groundbreaking artists/producers that helped shape the direction of music in the 1980s. Most Americans here know him only as the, one hit wonder, MTv/VH1, 'Vid Killed The Radio Star" guy, What a shame. Same could also be said for Gregory, Marsh and Ware from Heaven 17 and BEF/Human League.
Not very Hip Hop, was it?! :D The Art of Noise used an early Fairlight sampler if my memory serves me well? Those samplers were very basic and had very limited memory and processing capabilities compared to the samplers of today. Though the sample rate wasn't bad for then considering the Fairlight's limitations (24 KHz). The Art of Noise used them to their full potential and did so really well. Respect from an old Pop locker! Now, where's my ghettoblaster?
The drum samples used for this song were originally played by the drummer from the Progressive Rock band 'Yes' during a session recording for one of their albums from the early 80s, though the recording was scrapped from the album if I remember right? So I believe producer Trevor Horn, who was previously a member of the band for a year or so, decided to get his production team to sample the beats for Beat Box (Gary Landen and a fella called JJ Jezcarik or something or another?).
He's probably doing a double life sentence in San Quentin where he spends his days making military clothing and his nights as a bitch for Mr. Big being used and abused and served like hell, till one day he was found hung dead in a cell.
I believe this is the original 7" vinyl mix here in the U.S. When I was a young teen I played this version over and over. A good friend of mine at the time got me hooked on this song, brings back childhood memories every time I hear it. Wasn't played too much here in the States, although I know it was a club hit and an underground hit here, not so much on top 40 radio.
I think (if I remember right) that this was the original 7" version. I bought this when I was a young teen I played it over and over on my record player! It wasn't played too much here in the United States on the radio, although I know it was much more popular in the U.K. A friend of mine, God knows how, got me hooked on this song. Brings back memories of a good friend from way back in the day.
My Goodness !!!!! Never knew this was from the art of noise !! They used to have this song as a trailer/background to MUSIC BOX !!!!!! The music station based in the UK !! anyone remember that ? The programme Off The Wall !!??
wtf i seen this video before when i was high back in like 1992 and it tripped the fuck of of me that was back when i was like in grade 8 though good times good times
I use to break and skate to this version 1 aka original version is the best. Then there moments in love...still bangin to this day! But the original version starts like a synphony orchastra, then bridges into the song.
Every morning when I would get ready for school this song would come on, MTV of course. I use to practice breakin getting ready for the next war. lol. My mom used to get pissed cause I'd make a lot of noise jumping around and blasting this song. Oh the days.
That's a good question! It was a really well built and expensive instrument. Not many units were assembled so i guess they must be in hand of collectors.E-Bay is a good place to see if somebody is selling one.
@stereoloov This track started off as an experiment using the Fairlight, which Gary Langan apparently bought back from Australia. I think it was the first one bought back to the UK for work on the Yes 90125 album which Trevor Horn & Langan were working on. Check out the 12" of Owner of a lonely heart & some Dollar 12"s. The car engine noises are from a ditty originally called "Cantata for VW starter". Best back ground on this track get the CD "And What Have You Done With My Body God" ZTT201CD
I was born in the south bx in "75"..i remember hearing this beat in like "82" or "83"..i always said this was one if not the hottest hip hop beat ever..to my amazement i found out it was some swedish trans euro techno beat..incredible this shit beats any hip hop beat out there and it aint even rap..long live the bronx..
I live in CT, I used to visit Fordham a lot, I remember hip hop dudes with their tooth brush in their pocket to clean their Pumas and they would have these white gloves on and they would pop and breakdance it ws so cool, I must have been around 7 years old at that time, it was so cool.
