I like the fact that they needed the extra ballast cars to provide enough braking power for the two dead-in-tow engines. I don't know about the last engine, but the GG1 they took to Washington has no working brakes at all. The ballast cars provide enough braking power per ton to meet FRA regulations.
its a shame that GG1 couldnt arrive under its own power maybee pulling Bennet Levins PRR cars I cant believe no one has restored a GG1 to run.. we have one down here in Dallas Tx strangelly enough at the Railroad muselm
I have been told that to restore one is quite the undertaking. Something about the onboard voltage regulaters thats surrounded by asbestos and so was the boiler but if it were to happen only the shell would be original.
@jarl44 yah thats what i figured it would be alot like many other restorations fooling the public eyes to put on a display but inside not even close to real what a shame hell they would probilly pop a diesel engine in it and fool the public but your are right its not the same for those of us who know the differnce..its like us restoring our BigBoy we have down here at the muselm never going to happen
they definitely need to start using them again. Have you ever heard a GG1 horn!? They are amazing! for a diesel horn. i still thin k nothin beats a good steam whistle though
SO LUCKY

Yeah, I took this the day before. They moved it overnight from PA, and left it in the MARC yard.
