@dairydog91 your talking about two different guns that use the same size ammo. the Merkava's loading system jams quiet often and takes awhile to unjam, while the abrams autoloader doest jam that often (yes it does jam sometimes) but is very easily unjammed
I've never heard that. Both tanks don't have autoloaders, they use a fourth crewman to load the gun. I've heard that Russian autoloaders can be slow, especially when changing ammo types.
@dairydog91 They obviously compare the Merkava II to the M1A2. Much of their data on it is ancient - it's been a while since it only had 900hp (the mk III got a 1200hp in 1989 and the IV has a 1500 hp one - with much better fuel carachteristics compared to the abrams). That's what wiki says anyway.

It should rate even higher (if possible) on the defense category for having Trophy (made by Rafael and IAI) installed on it.
Another advantage of this tank is that it made and used in Israel so fixing a damaged Merkava is easy and relatively cheap.

thats not correct. they have the newest antiair rocketlauncher from russia, because a simple rpg does not do anything to this very heavy armor. i saw a palestinian video where they showed what they use to try to destroy the merkava. they use the russian a13 antitankrocket and they use 120kg bombs burried in the ground. they managed to destroy 49 merkava of 1600 in israels army. but even when they hit with the a13, in 60% the tank crew wil survive, because its so good armored !

Sabot is simply a name for a round belonging to the class of kinetic energy penetrator rounds, which EVERY modern tank uses. For the Leopard 2 it is called KE-Geschoss/DM 53, for french LeClerc it's APFSDS, russian T80/T90 call it BM15/BM42, for Merkava it's called APFSDS-T M711. And the M256 is just a licensed copy of the german Leopard 2 Rheinmetall L/44-Cannon....which is used in Merkava,too, called MG251/253.

The guy in pink is the military historian at Sandhurst, which trains the officers of the British army. He's an expert on all periods of military history. The Merkava tank is directly based on the British Centurion tank. It has nothing to do with German tanks.

The Merkava IV is maybe as good as the Abrams M1A2 or the Challenger 1.
In 2006, 5 Merkavas were damaged beyond repair:
Merkava II: 2 destroyed (one by IED and one by ATGM)
Merkava III: 1 destroyed (by Kornet ATGM)
Merkava IV: 2 destroyed (one by IED and one by Kornet ATGM)
Overall 50 tanks were damaged or penetrated.
Also the tank crews were badly trained. For example, at the Battle of Wadi Saluki, the crews didn't even know how to operate their smoke grenades.

I've never heard that. Both tanks don't have autoloaders, they use a fourth crewman to load the gun. I've heard that Russian autoloaders can be slow, especially when changing ammo types.
