For those saying this was NASA's fault? Let's look at this objectively. You had an incredibly high heat landing rocket assembly firing right next to each of the four landing struts, which were made of a metal that I'm sure is subject to temperature problems if overused too much. Additionally, McD/Douglas isn't exactly known for their perfection, as Atlantis was pretty much about to die for the last five+ years of its lifetime because of an aged-out cockpit tank.
This was not a failure. A tech forgot to reengage all the landing struts after maintenance. The landing was perfect but the strut failed to deploy and the rocket went over.
This design is being followed up by Blue Origen- hope for success!
This was the Delta Clipper. They had several success's before this. It landed perfect, but 1 of the 4 landing struts failed to deploy. It addition, it could perform unbelievable maneuvers. This system would have dramatically lowered the cost of space travel. Its secret was ultra light Russian made Lithium engines. This was another failure by NASA to recognize the significance. In addition, NASA only buys Lockheed products, even if they are crap.
@ti994apc Lithium engines?????????? Really??????? How about fuel tanks made of a lithium aluminum alloy by the Russians, the rest was American tech. Since when are Lockheed products crap?????
funny as hell lol i tried to give these retards one of 3 working magnet impulse engines in the 1970s they laughed at me
