amazing art...what's the dpi on a piece like this...my computer chugs when I go bigger then 10'' x 10'' at 300dpi so Im forced to draw a smaller pic then I want to...
@lucaddragon It's his sketching for study. If you see full video in the beginning he show up 2 sketching done before actual record this real painting (video you see here). I guess you must confusing just like me because the sketching on the right is so much detail... but it's just his sketch not the final piece.
It's hard work. Seriously. Fun work but hard work. You have to study, a LOT and most of all you have to "think" about what you're doing. And even then it's still not easy.
But it is very doable if you constantly learn and constantly apply.
"Put down the bong"... for real, like, look at the Beatles. They were doing, "she loves you, yeah yeah yeah" & then Bob Dylan came along & introduced them to cannabis... next thing ya know we've got Revolver & Rubber Soul & all this super creative work which has lots of critical acclaim. What's up with that? Keep it bland, draw monsters with breasts: no cannabis allowed. HAHAHAHAHA
@tobynsaunders Yeah but there is a fine line...as an artist myself I know it is easy to cross the line into overt intoxication and become way less productive. Inspiration from weed is great and I do it myself but the amount of hours you need to spend working on art precludes being a constant deadbeat stoner. Genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration after all.
As for implying this art is "bland" due to a lack of bong hits, you are kind of crossing into dickhead territory there...sorry.
I've been chatting with this over deviantart, and he taught me A LOT. He wrote me a long note telling me how to improve my art skills.I told him I always had this feeling about better artists - that I would never ever become as good as they are and so on. He replied:
You look at other peoples work and despair and think youll never, ever be good enough, that it seems to come so easily for them and harder for you; that you dont have what it takes and never will.
You must learn to use that feeling.
Use it and focus it to an edge that no razor could match."
thats insane dude... How do you draw the hair of the women so the light of the background comes trough the edges and how do you drag the sec on the gasmask guy from the right?? please make some tutorials !
but speeding things up like this makes it so much more diffuse. Its hard to grasp what hes doing actually. I mean, hearing him talking about bod language and all isnt THAT new insightful information.
You must have spent countless hours to reach that level...God, I'm still outlining like a monkey and there you are, painting characters with a "shadow build". Thanks for the ass kick/wake up call/lesson!
If you guys come by Montreal, I'm the first attendee!
Stunning work! I wonder though why you chose to recreate so much, rather than simply refine your "thumbnail" which seems less like a thumbnail to me and more like an early version of the painting?
There is one thing i dont like of your videos ( and i have a few) The artist NEVER explain step by step what is he doing, WHY is doing it, and the most important part if you want to consider this a TUTORIAL: HOW CAN WE DO IT.
If i buy a DVD only for watching how an artist create (and yes, in the dvd is not speed motion, but neither slow, and there are no explanations of what is he doing and why on every step) i´ll never learn anythyng.
It supposses that i buy this for learn the how to!!!!!!
@eduki - Sometimes figuring things out on your own is a much more rewarding experience. These DVD are a guide as to the thought process behind a painting, not an exact step-by-step tutorial. This particular DVD is also not a beginner lesson and if you're still at the stage that you need to be shown each and every step of a painting, CryptCrawler's tutorial is probably not for you.
@NeecHMonkeY I understand, then this DVD is for the 1% that looking at an speed motion with no explanations of what is he doing, is able to understand clearly what is he doing and follow the same steps. Good business for who did the vids
@eduki@eduki I think what you are looking for is learning about painting/drawing fundamentals. Photoshop, pencils, crayons, brushes.. are just tools and you are the engine that guides them. In order for the engine to guide these tools properly you need to learn the fundamentals and do studies -> draw/paint paint from life or other reference.
@trypt84 hello!! i am the artist for the music the track is called Desert Dwellers and it has not yet been released other then on some of the dvd tutorials but i will probably put it up on youtube :)
I like this guy. Definitely going to check this out. Gonna have to get the bong while I watch it though, because I know it's going to inspire me to draw and I won't be able to pick up later. LOL.
Any ideas how he does the art history brush tick for keeping tight outlines?

What i don't understand is how come he has another window of the finished painting? Doesn't the dvd cover the painting from beginning to end?
Thanks.

I have to dovetail on what he said.
