To outsiders who's knowledge of Maoris is confined to romanticised images like this, they might appear to be some sort of 'proud warrior' race. Believe me nothing could be further from the truth. Maoris represent 14.3% of NZ's population and 51% of prison inmates, 59% of female inmates, half of all children in state care, 119 of the last 128 child murders, the highest rate of abuse related child head trauma in the world, ten times more likely to commit violent crime than any other race.
