Well, you can update to join all of the hackers and glitchers :) But the patch does fix some bugs and decrease performance while doing so! No reason to update, I only play bf2 mods, not the ranked bull shit.
Its just that all the servers update to the newer patch and when the sercers you play updates to the new patch you cant play on them any more, but if you update to the same version as the servers is you can play on them, a patch also fixes bugs and such.

Yes, it requires the 1.41 patch. (At least, I quess so). But if I were you, I would wait for the final patch.
