Alice is a complete legend!!! If ANYONE else did a song like this or dead babies... they'd have so many political correctness people slamming them away... Not Alice though, he could get away with anything haha
In an iterview, Alice said he did indeed have them calling him baby killer but he responded by saying if they even bothered to listen to the lyrics of dead babies then they would have realised that it was an anti child cruelty song!!!
When I was a teenager ... we all wanted to go see him ... I don't think I ever missed one of his Toronto concerts .... he is and was amazing .... this song has to be one of the best songs ever written ...... and no one but Alice could ever do it right !!!
I was lucky enough to be the daughter of the owner of the security company used at the places he played .... I was just a kid and was kept back stage .... I was laying on a chouch supose to be going to sleep and Alice came and sat with me and told me about his kids and wife ..... he was just the nicest guy in the world ... this song is like my life .... how ironic ......
@xemopengyx So did I.........he came to Bay City, Michigan and kicked ass. Seeing his show on TV or videos doesn't compare to seeing it live for yourself.
@mlong1954 I can only imagine what it was like to see something like Alice in his prime. He was awesome in 2010 when he came to my hometown. They did the hanging bit and a few others. It was basically all the ways they "executed" Alice at the end of the shows in the past (that's my guess, anyway); stuck him in a box and stabbed him with huge swords, stuck him a big syringe, shot him with a gun.....and a few others.
@uofm97 It was great. But I will tell you that the band played one of the best shows I have ever seen. Glen Buxton and Michael Bruce were two of the best guitarist ever. Much under-rated and over shadowed by the theatrics of Alice Cooper. (the man) The production and quality was exceptional. Glad I got to see the original band!
@mlong1954 I envy you guys that got to see the original band. Everything was new and exciting and no one else was doing what they were doing at the time.
@puffyrock2 So true - I remember buying them as a kid, when you could still scare your parents with your music choices instead of amusing them. I liked our time better.
Marilyn Manson fans who think Marilyn Manson is so cool and original should listen to Alice Cooper and remember that not only is Alice Cooper better, but Alice Cooper is original and ... oh yes... Alice Cooper predates Marilyn Manson by almost 30 years! What would Alice Cooper sound like back then if he simply copied the music from any of the artists who were popular 30 years prior to 1971? The music of this era rules, unlike the garbage that is masquaraiding itself as "music" today.
@TheAussieTaco A creepy (yet awesome) memory of the Summer of 1971. I spent a mind altering afternoon painting a swarm of bats on the ceiling of a friend's attic while this album played on the record changer in the other room over and over again. The arm rest was up so the record played repeatedly with the tone arm dropping on the middle of the record right on the opening notes of THE BALLAD OF DWIGHT FRYE. What memories!

Frye also portrayed Wilmer Cook in the original movie version of The Maltese Falcon in 1931.
Actor. Appeared on stage and in motion pictures from the 1920s to the 1940s. Remembered chiefly as the chilling 'Renfield' in the 1931 horror classic "Dracula." He also played the part of 'Fritz' in the landmark classic "Frankenstein" that same year.

The hell with today's comparisons. We lived through this time, grew up, enjoyed what was given to us in late 60's and early to mid-70's. We just need to take it in, remember it, keep close to our vest as we will never really be able to share those true experiences with anyone except the memories we keep close. @cjrimmer71 wow could not have said it better, his concerts ,now that was artistic-phych!!I am glad for having had the chance to be w/ a 9 member family.....concerts I was to young!38 and whatever moves me I love it!!
@thecrazybitch371 Thanks. The older I get (45 now) the more I see the fake and the poser laden music industry. Rare someone comes up with a deeply felt, "one weird day in my life explained in song", I've been to the bottom and saw the light and what I learned down there is worth sharing, hurt so bad I wanted to die, broken hearted ballads like this one. This song is just great, it make one THINK and we are missing THINKERS in this nation today.
This song works best having just listened to "Second Coming". Love It Death through to Muscle of Love represent the best years; though the rest of that decade also provides some brilliant music.
I was 11 when this album came out. Saved up pocket money to buy it and learned the intense pleasure of completely freaking out my parents with this song Mwahahaha. As much as I still love Alice to this day, the Alice Cooper Band were something really special and will remain one of my all time favourite bands.
saw this crazy man in Allentown, Pennsylvania years ago, girlfriend and i had to run to the bathroom ran right into him scared the crap out of us but he was awful nice. showed us the way to the ladies room
I saw em perform in Toledo, Ohio @ The Toledo Sports Arena around 97ish, opened up for Ted Nugent, Alice Cooper had half the size of the stage but even so they blew Ted Nugent away! One of the best concerts I've attended over the years!
Alice Cooper rocks!!!! I totally related to this song in my young teens. I met Alice when I worked in Coco's in Paradise Valley AZ, he was going golfing!
@schneidzz Ha! I saved my lunch money. My family was pretty cool and would buy me most of the blues and rock I was obsessed with. But no way were they going to buy me an Alice Cooper record. Still one of the best shows I've ever seen. That band rocked.
@triplettam I missed out and never saw him live>the time I did have the chance to go, I didn't. Ended up, some goof brought in tear gas and exploded it during the show-1979? Good show to miss.

Marylin Manson couldn't hold a candle to this man. Fake, wannabe, psuedo satanist....pud. This stuff was WAY before its time. Now its a clock bloom........every year its opened up and renewed to others. ORIGINAL.......

Just graduated high school - at 18 - headed to 'Nam when Alice hit the scene. This was too real. Alice - the original "Punk".

I saw em perform in Toledo, Ohio @ The Toledo Sports Arena around 97ish, opened up for Ted Nugent, Alice Cooper had half the size of the stage but even so they blew Ted Nugent away! One of the best concerts I've attended over the years!

First album I ever bought . Saved my babysitting money
schneidzz 11 months ago
@schneidzz Ha! I saved my lunch money. My family was pretty cool and would buy me most of the blues and rock I was obsessed with. But no way were they going to buy me an Alice Cooper record. Still one of the best shows I've ever seen. That band rocked.
triplettam 11 months ago
@triplettam I missed out and never saw him live>the time I did have the chance to go, I didn't. Ended up, some goof brought in tear gas and exploded it during the show-1979? Good show to miss.

Long Live The Coop and congratulations on him getting inducted into the Rock-N-Roll Hall of Fame!.....He was the forerunner of rock theater and blazed the trail for all others to come after him and this was just one of my favorite (among many) Alice Cooper tunes!
