UPDATE: The two earthworms I collected were NOT macelfreshi, but were a yet-undescribed species of Driloleirus. That is pretty cool to me! DNA analysis will take a while...
What is even better is that I found another this morning, and delivered it to William Fender about an hour ago.
As a side note, I did get to see the worm spit, and yes, it has a mild fragrance. Ericsandmeyer can rest easy. It isn't acid, and they can't spit more than a fraction of an inch or so, so your eyes are safe.
I collected two giant earthworms just a couple of weeks ago in western Oregon. The larger of the two stretched out to more than twenty inches when it crawled. I suspect they are of the Driloleirus variety, but the species has not yet been determined. I am hoping it will be the Driloleirus macelfreshi. Both William Fender and Sam James will examine them soon, and DNA testing will be done. I also am delivering some native white earthworms with pink heads!
@MarkRogowskisSurfBag yes its true my friend and i were headed to the beach and on the road we came across huge earth worms for real they were fat too we stop and picked one of them up each took an end it broke in two thats when we dropped it was kind of freaky cause they were so huge there outer body looked a bit like wrinkled material weird and they were earth worms
