  • Inb4 hipsters complaining about "What? This song was good before Kanye sampled it.."

    Oh wait

Stop complaining and be glad he paid homage to the greats instead of making sellout garbage to further the decline of our youth and hip hop culture.

  • chris c418 - Your knowledge of hip hop is severely limited from what you have said. check out The Roots "Return to Innocence Lost" I hope it opens your eyes a little bit.

  • I MISS YOU MY DAD ...

  • @badjololo We all miss him so bad

  • I invented swag Poppin bottles putting supermodels in the cab

  • Damn Yeezy and HOV, where the hell ya been? Niggas acting real reckless, stuntman!

  • just inspirational!!

  • love this song, when i was lilltle,my mom and dad use to have party and me and my brothers us to spy on them

  • oh child, my song

  • Superb

  • Gone too soon. RIP, Otis.

  • Remember Three Dog Night did this song? Nothing like using a bunch of white boys to market a song to he masses.

  • @motorcityquig Not even the dogs liked their version...just like your spelling.

  • Redding never thought he was a great singer. I do, I think he was the BEST soul singer.

  • kanye west brought people back to Otis redding with his song otis so thats why this song is so popular

  • @JOjomania4 DUH ?

  • @JOjomania4 perhaps to 12 year old boys

  • forever blues!!!love this son...R.I.P OTIS!!!

  • @beatmakersuniversity OOOOH you are fat....black (and definitely not proud ) no company, spend a lot of time alone and the only time you lol is when you....

  • @nicco47 FAT??????????? Nigger i am obese .lol your mother enjoys my love handles during our masturbation sessions. she licks it off like mayonnaise.lol

  • @Tishapoo Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It's known that most women prefer dark-skinned guys to light/pale-skiined guys. Particularly blonde women.

  • Do ppl dislike videos for the craic?? How can 22 people dislike this?? HOW??? I don't understand the world...

  • @Melioestevz I'm pretty sure it's 14 year old kids that bump into these videos by mistake or their parents tell them to check out what they used to listen to when they were young, and all they think about is "I like Daddy Yankee more than this."

It's ok, just preserve the memories and know that this music isn't dead, for as long as these are available to the public.

I'm 24. My boss (65 yrs old) told me to check this song out because he loved it as a kid. I had never heard it before. I love it.

  • Out of all the artist then & now, who probably could sing rings around Otis.Couldn't touch any of his songs & do them justice, especially this one....not even the great Sam Cook. Otist voice wasn't melodic, or the prettiest, & sure in the hell wasn't the smoothess. His voice was raw! But his voice could transport you to a time & place like no other. Otis....Damn it! God took you to soon.

  • 0:02 WTF White boy painting in black ?!

  • These days its all about rap crap, those days its all about soul and feeling and u could tell he got into it!

  • JAY Z AND KAYNE WEST DIDNT BRING ME HEAR !!!

  • Jay Z and Kanye Didnt Ruin This Song. They led so many people, I included , To it!

  • Love the discreption btw.

  • listen to michael grimms version its amazing just as well as this :)

  • I heard this song when my dad played it in the car telling me this is what he listened to when he was growing up.

  • I heard this on sixteen candles ive always love this song

  • @1234jjjohn - Got your Molly Ringwald's movie confused. Pretty in Pink is the movie where Duckie sings this at the record store.

  • Kanye and Jay-Z are only in it for the money. This music is soulful and full of love. Otis is Jay-Z and Kanye's daddy. I would much rather hear a song about love than money and strippers any day!

  • @casbont If you really think that all rap is about "money and strippers" then you clearly haven't listened to rap of any lyrical value.

  • @casbont I advise you, listen to Kanyes two first album, they're filled with soul.

  • PLEASE,all who sing with vocals in the backing track take a good look.

    BRING BACK THE SOUL.

  • my blueberry nights brought me here, and i love it : the song, and the movie. :)

  • It was to pay tribute they said it in a interview cant top greatness I grew up on this my dad played these records all the time. Listen to this brings memories of my dad (rip) to Otis and my dad

  • I would have never heard of this great singer if it wasn't for Kanye West and many many others wouldn't have either so please shut your fucking faces if you're insulting the man.

  • This song makes me feel some kinda way

  • I love this song and did so pryor to jayz/kanye's "otis". But it was so dope to hear them play this to lead into otis live. So seamless.

  • You wouldn't even be listening to this song, if it wasn't for Jay Z and Kanye

  • If you don't "na na na", you're not trying hard enough...

  • kanye is a genius for this one

  • nothing like the original

  • @TheGrayFloatyBit be happy that jay led u hear. his main goal in Watch the Throne was to open an eye to african culture. thats good bro.

  • He is good but Chris brown is right there with him

  • @poopufools4 lol are you serious?!?

  • @thetruthis24 Sadly enough, I think he is serious.LOL!! Kids today, don't know crap about music.

  • @obdiane you don't know crap about music lol, not THAT Chris Brown, the first one. The first one did this song before Otis.

  • @obdiane nvm scratch that, made a little research and turns out it's horse shit, the first Chris Brown never did that song.

  • @TheSerialTrain LOL!!!

  • Instead of bashing Chris and Kanye, how about we embrace them for bringing this wonderful song back to light. Im sure Otis would be proud

  • @ChrisC418 REALLY, the man who sang "Tramp" and "Sitting at the dock" would be proud of being associated with people singing about how rich they are and how much they have?

  • @RollinIsland I think that he would be happy that in today's time, black people would actually be able to get rich and have something.

  • @ChrisC418 Who's Chris and Kanye? And since when did this song need to be brought "back to light"?

  • @ChrisC418 Otis would shake his head with disgust. This music will always be in the light.

  • @ChrisC418 phuck rap, buncha no talent losers who cant play instruments trying at the big money and fame by recording others great songs. Lotsa white acts trying to record R&B classics as well, nothing new, it's just hollywood, where your worth more to record companies dead than alive!!

  • @AmericanDiaz fuck you...quit hating on something u dont understand we love this music just like u do

  • @AmericanDiaz You clearly know jack shit about hip hop music if you really believe that. Get back in your box.

  • @ChrisC418 Hell he would've sung it with them if he was alive today. RIP Otis Redding.

  • Jay-Z and Kanye are good.... but they don't even compare.

  • now why would yall say chris brown sucks. just cuz the "original" is "usually" better dont mean you gotta hate on covers smh

  • Is he the original writer of this song or 3 dog way ?

  • Chris browns is garbage he has no soul....yuck, Otis u sing it!!!

  • the original OG

  • no skool like da ol skool much love made a baby to this

  • brilliant ,chris browns version absolute shite

  • No frills. No flash. Just pure soul. Everything nowadays is a cheap cover imitiation of the old days.

  • Chris browns version is more flashy and up to date however the original is still the authentic soul. Otis>Chris

  • KING OTIS REDDING VERSION IS 10000% BETTER THAN CHRIS BROWN

  • i can only imagine what else otis would have done! so sad! but thankfully he left us some awesome music!

  • Chris Brown is an average singer, and Kanye sampled the shit outta this song, hands down. Now shut the fuck up and listen Otis Redding.

  • this is such a beautiful song , i'm young so i never heard the original , i heard jay-z's and kanyes first ... unfortunately

  • Don't know why his estate allowed Jay and Kanye to sample this

  • Soul! You can't teach it. Its all natural. Love it! Otis Redding the man!

  • Thumbs Up if chris brown brought you here

  • @stellarsinger123 fuck that pussy woman beater!

  • 20 people have no soul... (GINGER)

  • jay-who???

  • 20 people have no soul! Wonderful record.

  • So glad to see you young folks getting to know Mr. Redding. i saw him in concert with the Rolling Stones in the sixties. This white girl learned the meaning of soul that night.

  • I love this song and when I heard Kanye and Jay-z RAPING it, I almost shed a fucking tear. I mean, do rappers have to ruin everything!?!!

  • @evaswirlz Not necessarily. Dubstep can do that, too!

  • @evaswirlz How did they ruin it? does their song replace the original from existance?

  • @evaswirlz come on, how can you be so close minded ? Didn't your parents said that your music sucks back in the days. It's not because you don't like it that you have to bash it. Rappers never ruined anything, they made their version of it while crediting the original (which btw is probably hardly his work, most probably a soul version of another song). Be better than this, it's not like they stole the song, you can't steal a song, because legends are immortal and never forgotten.

  • @evaswirlz Idk about "raping" it.. I get what you're saying, of course the original is WAAAAY better. Nobody could ever top this song, but I think Kanye and Jay were trying to pay tribute to him, you know? Somebody as soulful as Otis deserves to be honored. So I don't think they were trying to top Otis by any means. I mean.. Jay and Kanye's song is called Otis, so I think they were trying to show some respect to the man. They must like the song since they sampled their song from this.

  • @evaswirlz I believe Otis is cool with his music being heard among by millions of other people.

  • @evaswirlz SHUTUP, obviously if we're hear we like this song and otis redding. Don't diss others or the art of sampling or the art of hip hop. Otis wouldn't have liked that either. He was positive. so stfu and keep the negative to yourself.

  • @JulianAIDC How about...FUCK YOU! Otis died many years ago and you have NO idea if he would have given these rappers permission to sample his song. This song has SOUL! What Kanye and JayZ produced is a bastardization of this music, IMHO!! What many rappers do to classics is just fucked. If Kanye and JayZ made you a fan of Otis, then great! But,just because you're dick riding doesn't mean I have to join in. Oh, and nice way to be positive, hypocrite! Why do I waste my breath, ugh!

  • @evaswirlz how does it ruin it? they acknowledged Otis and the population of this song rose. If you dont like it, then you could easily ignore that song and listen to this one

  • @evaswirlz its not a case of raping it as you so eloquently put it im not even much of a kanye or jay z fan but its a question of choice like movie remakes you either choose to watch it or you dont they didnt cover the song they use samples which is hip hop for you its more about paying homage

  • who the hell could possibly dislike this song or this man

  • i'm ashamed to say it, but i'm one of the people that have been led here by jay z and kanye. No comparison - the original hands down! But surely it's good that more people are being brought to this astonishigly soulful music?

  • @TheGreyFloatyBit Why would you be ashamed ? The Jay-Z/Kanye West song is good and you're right that it gives a chance to the artist who originally sang it. They dedicated a song to him, I don't know why you can ashamed of a dedication. It's like saying that the writing on your tomb are stupid and you would have said it better.

  • @TheGreyFloatyBit I think there's nothing to be ashamed of! We should be grateful to Jay and Kanye for getting to know Otis' music! I adore him so much and as I read it's such a pitty he died so young...

  • those 19 people don't know real music smh......

  • Never mind Jay Z... Donkey from Shrek brought me here!!

  • @bobcombe Trolololoololololo

  • lolanaise, i knew this song before Krept and Konan ;)

  • 18 People are already too tender

  • I LOVE OTIS

  • Thumps up if you knew this before Pretty in Pink

  • I honestly think that, Paul Giavanni and Andre Braugher's version was equally as great. Juss sayin man...

  • 17 people are members of the KKK

  • Even if you listen to this after Kanye West and Jay'Z, you'd be pretty stupid to fail to see that this is one epic song in its own right.

  • keep pressing 8 Otis - Jay Z

  • Chris browns version sucks. Like who would try to re- sing a great song like this only Otis Redding can sing this! ahahha chris should have tried a little tenderness with rihanna!(:

  • @123zazop shut up troll

  • @ghighc4 at least i can get one thumbs up or more ur a troll so shut up!

  • @123zazop lol just shut up, now.

  • @123zazop STFU you ignorant cunt! Chris Brown's version DID NOT suck! He sung that hell out of that song and ANYONE who says he didn't is a fucking LIAR and a HATER! Otis Redding was the original and he is given his respect but to say Chris Brown didn't do this song justince is a IGNORANT FOOL! FOH with that Rihanna Bullshit!!

  • @tnyoung7384 Calm down, then leave.

  • @123zazop fool

  • funnily enough i actually searched for this song like a week before they kanye and kay-z did their premiere performance on some gay awards show.

  • i bet the 17 dislikes are 17 girls that didn't get any tenderness

  • Pretty In Pink!! Duckie!

  • THE ONE & ONLY!

Though, the hair-do of his horn section is a trip! LOL

  • Sounds so soulful don't you agree?

  • @noneamusername HOV lol

  • My dad used to play this music in the car. I didn't like it until I grew up. Then I fell in love with a song he did called SITTING ON THE DOCK OF THE BAY. Jay-Z and Kanye brought the memories back. Nice

  • Thumbs up if you dont give a fuck if you knew them before Jay Z and Kanye and your just here to listen to the song

  • BOTH MY PARENTS WERE BORN IN 1952 I WAS BORN 1970 THIS MY DADS FAVORITE HE ALWAYS PLAYED THIS AND TALKED ABOUT IT .

  • I Love This Song -3

  • Jay and Kanye made a mess out of that song

  • Nice song

  • Shrek actually brought me here :)

  • who cares if I found out about this from jay z and kanye? They introduced me to one of the greatest classic singers of all time!

  • real music

  • I love this song, but I hate the fact that it's now been played on some shitty track. This is my fave Otis Redding song. It's sad that artists can't think up their own beats so they have to use other artists. I adore this song, but I don't adore listening to 13 year old scally wags playing it on buses pretending to be 'gangsta' when they have no fucking idea who actually sang this song.

  • @babycharlie2006 if you knew anything about how hip hop worked, its supposed to sample and pay tribute to the music that came before it. In fact, kanye and jay titled the song "Otis" for that exact reason.

  • @wynstont I am not fucking stupid. It's quite obvious they named it Otis because they were sampling an Otis song. It's a little too obvious. I don't know how hip hop works because I don't particularly like it. It's not paying tribute though, the songs about respect and loving a woman? what are they singing about? material things.

  • @babycharlie2006 nobody was questioning your intelligence. but why do they have to cover the same topic in order for it to pay tribute.not every song has to be about love braggadocio is just one of the diverse amounts of topics in hip hop. the songs about being happy and successful. you can't really hate on that.

  • @wynstont Well I can hate on it actually. With or without the Otis redding sample it's still crap.

  • People that WERE brought here by Kanye West and Jay Z should realize that KanYe has already used Otis Redding in his work before. Gold Digger is made from the same intro as "I got a woman" Jamie Foxx is singing it karaoke in the beginning, and the chorus "i gotta leaveee" is otis redding. It's kind of funny because it's not "she take my money" it's 'She give me money, when i'm in need" and "i got a woman, way over town, that's good to me" Amazing how society has changed in 40 years...

  • @GR1NCH

ummmm the I got a woman is Ray Charles

  • R.I.P Otis Redding u my cousin but i never got to see u in person all i got is tapes and pictures to remember u by i hope to see u in heaven one day

  • Awesome song and Jay and 'Ye make it even cooler.

  • West & Z...........bring soul to a younger generation....?????.....get real....they have bastardized one of the most brilliant soul songs ever....you wouldn't go repaint the Mona Lisa..????

  • damn, smooth hair-dos

  • THUMBS UP if otis redding brought you here.

  • Skip to 1:57 for "Otis" Jay-Z & Kanye sample

  • I first heard this song on Sex and the City! I loved it then, then I heard the sample from Kanye West and Jay Z and love it even more. So what?!?!?!

  • First off RIP Otis, secondly if you mad Jay and Kanye sampled this song, your a HATER!! Who cares if you was around before a younger generation heard the song, you wanna cookie? Grow up, and go buy Watch The Throne...Jay z and Yeezy 2 young black brothers making good hip hop music...

  • Thumbs Up if you knew this song before Kanye & Jay-Z. :D
