Brandon is abso-freakin'-lutely right...the drydown is "blah". The top notes are it...and they last about an hour on my skin. Very sexy, but very disappointing in the longevity and projection.

Good review and good takes on this. I have worn this in the summer and the problem that I encountered with it is that it becomes really stuffy in the heat on the dry down.

It works great in the summer for the top notes, but if its hot, the drydowns gonna kill ya :/

Brandon, you may have just convinced me to keep this bastard. It does suck royally in projection and longevity. It does only last 3 hours max!!! But I'll test it out this summer, it may be better when the heat cranks up in four months or so. I like the Versace/DB Polo idea, I'm gonna try it. Thanks.

Smells VERY good though.

ill be honest with you. My double black has pretty good proj/longevity. For me if u took these Proj/long ratings and swapped them with burberry london, it would fit more for me. Id give london a c and d, and this id give a b to.

This review is right on the money, especially as far as longevity and projection of fragrance goes. I like the way it smells much better than the traditional polo which lasts longer and projects well. It also requires about 5 or 6 sprays to be really noticable vs just a few for the green bottle polo. Keep up the good work with your insightful reviews!

I agreed with you about the longevity and projection, but not im starting to change my mind. I gave my father a bottle of this stuff, and i smell it on him pretty damn strong. i asked him when he sprayed it, and he said like in the morning, and it was late evening, and i smelled it on him. I think this stuff might project more than we think.

I got polo double black online for a good price. Never smelled it before, So i do not know if its original., But the seller was very high rated on ebay. I also have polo black regular. Honestly, The polo regular black smells better to me. The polo double black i have reminds me of a cheap cologne or something. Like a soapy generic, english leather type smell. Polo black regular seems more masculine and unique.

I totally agree with you here - Polo Black is definitely NOT a winter fragrance. But it really shines during the summer.

I wore this fragrance during last summer, and I absolutely loved it (and I still do!). It lasted for roughly 12 hours actually, so it's cool enough what comes to the paper sayin' as you were refering to ;)

Just tried it today, here during the winter, and I dont get more than 4-5 hours from it. So it's definitely a summer fragrance, and a damn good one! :ø)

I used to have Polo Double Black, I doubt I'll buy it again because of it's longevity and projection issues (unless I can get it mad cheap) It's not worth retail price. Like so many others it has so much potential, I also got some vanilla notes that you didn't mention. Didn't care for the dry down. I live in FL.. it's always hot..I gotta say I get poor sillage from it in the heat.

Solar, I haven't had extensive time w/ DB, but from the testing I did of it at the store it comes off a little more sweet, whereas black has more of a spicyness to it, especially in the opening.

i have the black and u sounded like u were reviewing it and not the double black. i mean they must be very similar because what u said for the double black pretty much goes for the black too. i've been told that the main difference b/w the 2 is that the double black is stronger.. a stronger version of the black..

what about the coffee note? the first thing I noticed when I first sprayed double black was this really nice sweet creamy coffee smell that later on dries down to the peppery mango citrus smell that you mention. by the way, I have days when double black lasts more than 10 hours on my skin...sure it might be a bit faint during those last few hours, but it's noticeable. but thanks for the review man, keep it up.

Weird,,,,, i don't get any of the black pepper that you do. I get the mango for the first few hours but it never goes away really. just loses strength. Then i get a lot of the nutmeg with a little mango, and then almost a creamy caramel type feel. The longevity itself is average to good with me, but with that said, the actual projection is gone after 2 hours.

the thing with this fragrance is yes it could last longer, but its one of those that you can wear and walk right out the door and meet your date/friends and it wont smell like you just put it on. you dont have to wait for it to calm down like lemale or angel men. so as much as i hated the longevity i found a good use for it.

I don't think I will waste my time on this one. I'm not really trying to have a lot of stuff in my collection that I'm not going to wear. Great review as always....I just purchased Kenzo Jungle Poure Homme and Antidote by Viktor and Rolf....I would recommend that you give these a try. They are nice and fresh and off the beaten path.

So is it me or is this the WORST named fragrance of all time. As it sounds to me, there is nothing "black" about this fragrance. You'd expect some dark notes of Leather or Cummon, or cinnamon, not mango lol. Brandon do u agree?
