Referees in the NHL are NOT going to have physics going through their mind when a penalty like this is called, so if there was inertia to cause his elbow to go back(which will cause the stick to come towards Chara no matters what, you even said the stick is pushed back), the referee isn't going to be thinking of inertia, he's gonna be looking for a pull in on Ovechkin's hands. Which did occur, even if it wasn't Chara's fault.

Elbow going back = pulling on stick
pulling on stick + stick in along the hands = hook

I will agree that Ovechkin had no reason to lift his stick like he did, but Chara did hook him, and he even knows it's a hook cause he puts his arms up towards the ref BEFORE the ref even put his hand up.
what have you been watching for the last 4 years? If you notice since the holdout year, you can't even touch the other player with the stick without getting a penalty.
Listen to the announcer too, "Chara's gonna get a minor penalty because his stick was parallel to the ice in the hands of the puck carrier"
And watch Charas arm RIGHT before Ovechkins stick go up, you can he pulls his stick right after it hits Ovechkin's knees and before it gets to his hands, causing the tug.
the original hooking penalty was kinda thrown out of the window now after the hold out, you get a stick into the waist, it doesn't even have to prevent the player from moving freely, it's going to be a penalty.
Hockey is hockey, whether it's on feet, rollerblades, or ice skates, so don't tell me it's only known if I play ice hockey. I've been a fan of it all my life, been playing it all my life.

I see a tug, and I've even asked a bunch of other people who agree with me about it being a hooking penalty. The stick was in along the hands, at NO time should a player have his stick along the hands of another player, or it's a penalty.
I know Ovechkin hit his stick, but a player should have control of his stick at ALL TIMES, thats the reason for most highsticking penalties called.
look at the 3 second mark, that was the tug, Charas stick shouldn't have even been there, if he lost control of the stick thats Chars fault not Ovechkin, and I don't know how you can hold a stick with out literally grabbing the stick. If Chara didn't tug no penalty would have been called, but as you said he did tug cause Ovechkin was holding his stick (when both hands were on his own stick so thats impossible to do). Tug + stick on hands = hooking call.
and I just want to point out the refs hand was on its way up BEFORE Ovechkin lost his footing and went into the boards, so Ovechkin going into the boards did not help draw that penalty.
he got the stick into the hands and pulled, thats a penalty, even if Ovechkin tried to get out of the hook, Chara still had his stick in along the hands of Ovechkin, in todays NHL there hardly has to be a tug for it to be hooking.
And it doesn't matter if Ovechkin skated into the stick or not, Chara still tugged a little bit, thats a hooking call. Thats like saying someone put the stick infront of somebody, and they skate into it and it hits their head, thats still a penalty.
Everybody is looking at the slam for the penalty, if you study before hand Chara gets the stick in on Ovechkins hands, not Ovechkins stick, and thats considered a hook in the NHL, and thats what the penalty is.
At first I didn't understand what the penalty was, but I do see the hook, but Chara pulled on him, that would cause Ovechkin to go backward, not go forward as hard as he did into the boards.
And anyone who thinks he dove, he actually didn't, he lost his footing, and he saw the boards coming up, and actually turned his body really fast so he wouldn't have gone head first into the boards.
I'm not even an ovechkin fan by the way, and I'm saying this.

I must admit, I predicted he would start to suck a couple of years ago, so he lasted longer than I thought...but the end is coming. Maybe he can go party on a boat with some hookers some more while the truly great players are working on their skating, face-offs, etc.

@PRIMAL88 All i am saying is that he isnt faking, and all the people who says he sucks and is cheap. The only reason he gets penalties is because he usually is playing harder than all the players on the ice and he isnt the greatest hockey player ever but hes a hell of alot better than most of the players in the NHL, though he does tend not to backcheck all the time, but you cant blame him. I just dont understand why everyone hates ovechkin so much.

I'm sure this arguement started because you said "there was NO penalty". so thats what we've been arguing this whole entire time.
And you said the stick pushed back, then you tried to act all smart by bringing physics into a simple thing.
Refs aren't going to sit there and think, "hey inertia made his stick push back on him", they are going to look at the stick along the hands of Ovechkin, and if it did push back, it would look like a pull to the ref, meaning it's a hooking call.

Referees in the NHL are NOT going to have physics going through their mind when a penalty like this is called, so if there was inertia to cause his elbow to go back(which will cause the stick to come towards Chara no matters what, you even said the stick is pushed back), the referee isn't going to be thinking of inertia, he's gonna be looking for a pull in on Ovechkin's hands. Which did occur, even if it wasn't Chara's fault.
Refs DON'T think of physics on a penalty. No one does but you.

You getting into physics just proves you have no life trying to prove someone wrong. I understand physics plays into hockey. But referees aren't going to be thinking of that.
Oh, and think of it this way, when the stick is kicked by Ovechkin, and hit in the air, if it went high enough and hit him in the head, it would have been a high sticking call, even if inertia made it hit him in the head.
Players MUST have control of their sticks at all times.

I see a hook and you don't, and as I said your elbow does NOT go backward when your stick goes up and down. And if the elbow does go back your pulling on the stick, when his elbow goes back, his stick is along Ovechkin's hands. So, lets go through this again
Elbow going back = pulling on stick
pulling on stick + stick in along the hands = hook
Either you shut up, and believe what you want, or we can keep going back and forth, I tried stopping this stupid arguement, but you keep it going.

I took physics, and I got a high B so you know. And I don't have anything to really remake the video and make it go slower.
When your stick is lifted or goes in the air, your elbow doesn't move, your forearm and wrist are the only pressure points, if you watch Chara's elbow, it goes backward towards his body, meaning he is pulling his stick back.
So if he's pulling his stick back, that means he's tugging on Ovechkins hands, cause thats where the blade is hooked up with, causing the hook.

I will agree that Ovechkin had no reason to lift his stick like he did, but Chara did hook him, and he even knows it's a hook cause he puts his arms up towards the ref BEFORE the ref even put his hand up.

what have you been watching for the last 4 years? If you notice since the holdout year, you can't even touch the other player with the stick without getting a penalty.
Listen to the announcer too, "Chara's gonna get a minor penalty because his stick was parallel to the ice in the hands of the puck carrier"
And watch Charas arm RIGHT before Ovechkins stick go up, you can he pulls his stick right after it hits Ovechkin's knees and before it gets to his hands, causing the tug.

the original hooking penalty was kinda thrown out of the window now after the hold out, you get a stick into the waist, it doesn't even have to prevent the player from moving freely, it's going to be a penalty.

Chara gets his stick in on the hands of Ovechkin, stick + along hands = hooking.
And you even said "There was most certainly a holed by ovechkin and thats why they guy tugged" So you obviously saw the tug too.

I play hockey all the times, either with friends, or in a league, I've never played ice hockey, but I do know what I'm talking about. I'm really good with one hand on a stick, and I've done stick lifts with one hand.
And what the hell does knowing about a hooking penalty have to do with playing hockey?

I see a tug, and I've even asked a bunch of other people who agree with me about it being a hooking penalty. The stick was in along the hands, at NO time should a player have his stick along the hands of another player, or it's a penalty.
I know Ovechkin hit his stick, but a player should have control of his stick at ALL TIMES, thats the reason for most highsticking penalties called.

look at the 3 second mark, that was the tug, Charas stick shouldn't have even been there, if he lost control of the stick thats Chars fault not Ovechkin, and I don't know how you can hold a stick with out literally grabbing the stick. If Chara didn't tug no penalty would have been called, but as you said he did tug cause Ovechkin was holding his stick (when both hands were on his own stick so thats impossible to do). Tug + stick on hands = hooking call.

and I just want to point out the refs hand was on its way up BEFORE Ovechkin lost his footing and went into the boards, so Ovechkin going into the boards did not help draw that penalty.

he got the stick into the hands and pulled, thats a penalty, even if Ovechkin tried to get out of the hook, Chara still had his stick in along the hands of Ovechkin, in todays NHL there hardly has to be a tug for it to be hooking.
And it doesn't matter if Ovechkin skated into the stick or not, Chara still tugged a little bit, thats a hooking call. Thats like saying someone put the stick infront of somebody, and they skate into it and it hits their head, thats still a penalty.

Everybody is looking at the slam for the penalty, if you study before hand Chara gets the stick in on Ovechkins hands, not Ovechkins stick, and thats considered a hook in the NHL, and thats what the penalty is.

At first I didn't understand what the penalty was, but I do see the hook, but Chara pulled on him, that would cause Ovechkin to go backward, not go forward as hard as he did into the boards.
And anyone who thinks he dove, he actually didn't, he lost his footing, and he saw the boards coming up, and actually turned his body really fast so he wouldn't have gone head first into the boards.
I'm not even an ovechkin fan by the way, and I'm saying this.
