@sapilingmo1 Unless I'm mistaken, 2009 was Marcus's first year to go to Grand Nats. I don't really know why -- just something their program hadn't done, yet.
I go to Churchill my whole band was instantly in love with your whole show we were so sad when in finals we went after y'all later in the night and were not able to watch your finals preformance.
I go to coppell and when they announced we got 3rd we went crazy, but when marcus got 1st, they just clapped politely like they were at a tea party. Is it a traditon to do that? Or are you trying to show respect or what?
i think its a respect thing because in my band we stand at attention and dont cheer or clap or anything when our score is announced wether we have first or not. We usually wait until our drum major comes back to where we are sitting or when we get back to our busses to start cheering
Wow great work guys, this show was epic. it takes a lot of hard work and dedication to become as goos as a band like this. i just hope our band can one day be as good with the just the right attitude and mindset. by the way, i loved how you guy had dionysiaques in your show, thats one of my favorite pieces.
Hey Marcus HS Band! Congratulations on your 1st place winning at State Marching Contest. I'm so impressed with the way you guys play and march out on the field. Keep up the good work. You guys earned it.
Can someone please post Marcus' 2008 show Gods and Goddesses? You guys at Marcus need to let LD Bell and Avon, 2nd and 1st place at BOA Grand Finals, know who should have won that entire competition. Yall are a great marching band! You dont need all those props!!! Send them back to the drama dept!!!! You guys are so talented, while the props diminish the overall effect!
despite all the thumbs down on your comment, I agree with you on the fact that they let the props take over the show a bit. They are way too good to have a show saying "look at our awesome props". Their shows should say "Look at our band! We worked so hard on this, and we've gotten really good!"
its a matter of perception....to me their shows ALWAYS say..listen to this AWESOME hornline from the first note...check out the '06 & '07 shows....the props stayed on the back sideline until the second half of the THIRD song! Not a distraction, jus an addition!
But even with the over-propness I like that yes they actually do march throughout more than half the show, unlike... well L.D. who most of the time just gets in pretty poses and plays hard music.
how awesome would you feel if your director came up to you and was like "so this year we're doing a show about gods and godesses....and you're one of the gods."
this wasn't one of our best performances, I liked state finals the best. I really wish someone would post the whole show from state finals.
By the way, congrats to everyone who made it to State and BOA Super Regionals. I know that everyone worked very hard to get there and it is quite an accomplishment. You all should be VERY proud of yourselves. Really, Kudos. :)
Outstanding job Marcus! I'm a sophomore in the Bell band and I have to say it was honor to compete with you. Some of our band members were kind of sad that we didn't win, but I wasn't. In fact, I was really happy just to have the opportunity to be there.
Once again, congrats Marcus! I look forward to competing against you again in two years! :D
I have always respected the volume and thickness of sound that Marcus has consistently showed off over the years -- so please don't get me wrong.
There seems to be intonation issues on this, especially from the 1st trumpet. Was it a cold night?
I'll have to see their state winning performance, and the entire show to judge properly, but this excerpt seems to lack the warmness of sound that Marcus' brass usually produces so effortlessly. I do like the concept of the show......................
Revaluating what I've said above, I take back my stand on their overall sound: It still has the refinement I connect with Marcus. It's really only the first trumpet that's falling super flat.
didn't say anything about LD Bell. ya they do it too...but marcus shows it off more...
and i personally think that when bell does it...it's to show off their musical-ness, not just stop and stand still because they made a design. even tho, yes thats part of the show, showing off the drill. it shouldn't distract from the music...which ld bell does amazingly, and creepily, well.

The tenor solo was my favorite :)
My band went there from Oklahoma, the only Non- Texas band there & we didn't make it to finals,
it was early in the season & we kinda sucked "/
Ah well, we still got to watch finals, it was fun but kinda disappointing not being in finals "/

yeah you guys could likely be a finalist there!

Honestly, when you are a band that beats bell every year, you will almost no doub t be top three, let alone finalist.

Well, they'll should be going this year, along with L.D. Bell (5th year in a row!), The Woodlands, Clear Brook, and Richland.
Already, it's looking to be a good year for Texas at Grand Nats.
