  • Donny sounded like a young micheal

  • A great song is a great song no matter who makes it . Music is the only thing in the world that brings people together of all races... Why do miserable people always want to put negativity in something when it could be a good thing rather than embracing the good in it. for once CAN THERE BE A POST THAT DOES NOT SPREAD NEGATIVE VIEWS. This stuff does not belong to music. Take a hint from the title of song!

  • Notice the Osmonds used love and understanding to get their kids to perform and they have turned out for the most part normal...the Jacksons used fear, intimidation, and humiliation and the entire family is one jacked up mess.

  • @Grapedrankstank Excellent observation.

  • why does it have to be about color when i was a kid i liked both the osmonds and the jacksons

  • Great song, they do a good job with this one! Have always loved it.

  • i don't know he sounded a lot like michael jackson when i was a kid when it first came out i thought it was the jackson five the osmonds had a lot of talent you can't deny that

  • The white jackson 5

  • As a Jackson 5 fan, I must say...I loove this song. Sometimes I catch myself randomly singing it..."oooh, I don't care what they say, I don't care what you've heard". Go 'head Donny!

  • I really like this song. My kids used to listen to this when they were young. Thanks

  • this tune was hot as fuck back then!

  • I didn't know Justin Bieber was in this group!

  • @LilClaw lol i was sayin the same thing

  • Donny and Michael should have done a song together...

  • Pretty sure thousands of people said this, but yeah ABC, I Want You Back, and One Bad Apple kind of have the same melody going on. Gotta say, sounds like the "white" version of I Want You Back. Not saying this song is rip off or the Jackson 5 are - it's still a fantastic song.

  • This song was played by black DJ's in rotation regularly and us blackfolks loved it and I myself brought the 45.

  • @shadesmagazine Yeah, back then there were tons of black girls who were in love with Donny and white girls were in love with Michael. It was real cool.

  • he sure does sound like Michael J..wow

  • Osmondmania reached Europe in 1973 and was compared to Beatlemania here in the states in the 60's. No solo artist or group (other than the Beatles) has been able to match the hysteria brought on by the Osmonds during those years. By the way, The Osmonds can still sell out arenas. They sold out 2 shows at Wembley Arena in under an hour in 2008.

  • @palmer8112 Yo, hairypalmer8112! P U, i smell puss coming from your direction.

  • The White Jacksons...

  • Not an Osmond fan but I dig this record! (GOD! What the hell is wrong with me?!?!)

  • Wanna know why Donny sounded like Michael??...CAUSE ALL KIDS AT THIS AGE SOUND ALIKE....jesus people..

  • I read somewhere that this song was actually written for the Jackson 5, but they didn't want to do it for some reason, so you have the Osmonds who got to do it, and I think they were actually trying to sound like the Jackson Five.

  • I had no idea Justin Bieber's father was part of the Osmonds. I can really see the family resemblance.

  • The jackson 5 are like the Osmands

  • they sound like little jackson 5s lol

  • From what I remember. The Osmonds were around before the Jackson Five. They were on the old Andy Williams show when they were just little kids. I've never understood why there was always this rivalry between the Jacksons and Osmonds. Just enjoy the memories and stop trying to compare the two. But it is a shame that the Jacksons still get airplay but the Osmonds don't. Even though many of the songs and styles of music on the early years have similarites

  • @patrick9648 Jacksons saw the Osmonds on TV in 1965 doing the Andy Williams show, barber shop music and stuff. It gave the Jacksons the idea to sing as a family too. Later in 1969 the Osmonds saw the Jacksons doing "bubble gum soul" which gave the Osmonds the idea to also sing that kind of music. So both inspiered each other.

Osmonds were far more diverse though. Bubble gum soul, country westren, gospel, racious/hard rock, and so on.

  • @calimar28 LOL.. ok.. let's stop the lies. They started singing at home during the day as a family doing chores. Tito broke a string on his dad's guitar and that's how Joe Jackson discovered that they had been singing. Michael CLEARLY stated that in his auto biography. LMAO @ the notion that the Osmonds gave the J-5 the idea to start singing. Both parents were musical..and Joe even had the oldest 3 boys and Rebbie sing and dance at family functions. Learn the real history man...

  • @calimar28 By the way.." One Bad Apple" was SPECIFICALLY written for the J-5. Berry Gordy passed on the song which later infuriated Joe Jackson. The writer brought the song to MGM records which had just signed The Osmonds and that's what gave them the idea to start singing bubblegum soul. Donny freely admitted that they used to watch tapes of the J-5 and they copied them. I'm SO tired of the whitewashing of history.. the J-5 were an original....never to be duplicated or surpassed.

  • @megavega4 Number one, Who cares what Joe Jackson wants? Number two, the song WAS WRITTEN by Gordy then sold to the Osmonds. The Jacksons were busy recording ABC and turned it down, MJ said so later. So what? The Jacksons didnt write their own songs either, somebody wrote it and sold it. The Osmonds did a fantastic job of it. J5 never to be duplicated? No, they had a different style than the Osmonds. At the time, the Osmonds became more popular than the J5.

  • @calimar28 LOL.. ok.. you must be either a relative or a crazed fan to spew such fantasies. Let's set the record straight. #1..The song was written by a man ironically named GEORGE Jackson.. who wrote the song with the J-5 in mind. That fact is easily searchable. #2.. The Osmonds more popular then the J-5? Are you insane? Maybe in Utah... and the Bible Belt. But the Osmonds patterned their career post 1971 after the J-5. Success is often copied. The Osmonds were no where as popular as the J-5.

  • @megavega4 Nah, I was a kid that was there...in 1971 and 72, the Osmonds did surpass the J5 in popularity no doubt about it.

  • @calimar28 And so was I.. and there is no WAY on this earth that they surpassed them. Think about it.. if the Osmonds were more popular.. wouldn't the J-5 have imitated them? The J-5 had 4 consecutive #1 hits... sold more records.. had record breaking concerts.. sold out the L.A. forum 2 times before The Osmonds ever did a world tour. Donny Osmond could have walked down the street in some remote country and not be noticed. MJ could never do that anywhere in the world.

  • @megavega4 LOL the girls in school and at the roller rink, they all liked one guy, and it wasnt Micheal.

  • @megavega4 Osmonds had 2 number 1's, and some number 3's yes, but had more hits overall. Stop with the J5 vs Osmonds stuff. Blacks can take the J5, whites will take the Osmonds, and thats that.

  • @calimar28 LOL. ACTUALLY..your theory is flawed. Yes, blacks will take the J-5, but.. so will white people. In RECORD numbers. I was fortunate to see them 2 times as a child, and at least a 1/3rd of the audience was white. I ASSURE you that audiences at Osmond concerts was not 1/3rd black. The J-5 also had some hits that were not #1's. I don't know what planet you were on, but the girls screamed for MJ as well as Jermaine. And.. The J-5 are in the R&R Hall Of Fame. The Osmonds...not so much.

  • @megavega4 Ok whatever you want.

  • @calimar28 both groups battled the charts trying to outdo the other. the J5 decided to record ABC instead.

  • What a great song reminiscent of The Jackson 5.

  • Why do Michael Jackson fans feel the need to trash the Osmonds? I really don't understand this type of behavior. You claim to dislike them. If you don't like the Osmonds you simply need to stay away from their videos and you won't have to hear them. Instead, you keep coming. Why?

  • Have they heard of Richard Nixon or Bernard Madoff? We live in a world where the bad apples infect the good ones. So, that stated, The Osmonds just lied to the world. I don't like the fact they're compared to The Jackson 5 either; And that's all I'm going to say.

  • I hate it when people compare Osmonds to Jackson 5! Osmonds are one of the greatest bands ever! They produced some briliant hits. Jackson 5 are also one of the greatest bands ever! They produced The Greatest Artist in History!

  • You cant compare Osmond with Bieber. Give the young boy some time, Osmond has been successful as a young boy and a man. Go with the facts folks, continue with the music....lol

  • I remember the Osmonds, when I was little, they were a cool group! But I hated the brother jimmy!! That kid annoyed the hell out of me!

  • @sn00per8 That "kid" is the business genius in the family. Not only does he sing and act but he is a VERY successful business with diverse holdings all over the globe.

  • @jm3651 So!!!

  • donny is cute :)

  • Thumbs up if you thought that this was possibly a Jackson Five song before you actually discovered it wasn't!!

  • Comment removed

  • @TypesALot It was originally written for the Jackson 5! and Michael himself said his relatives thought it was by the jacksons!

  • @124MichaelJacksonfan pullb ! it wasn't!

  • @TypesALot i'm probably the umpteenth person to say this (so forgive me in advance) but Donny Osmond has said that "One Bad Apple" was written for the Jackson 5 and "Ben" was intended for Donny Osmond.

  • Excuse me, but don't say Donny Osmond & Justin Bieber in the same sentence!

NO comparison!!! Donny & his brothers spell T-A-L-E-N-T !

  • How dare people compare Donny Osmond with Justin Bieber!!! Donny's attractive, has talent, he can sing and is still going strong! Justin Bieber is un-attractive, no talent, can't sing, and will be forgotten in a few years time!

  • A solid rendition of a wonderful song.

  • No he rlly doesn't sound just like Michael jackson...MJ has a much stronger voice then that but Donny has a pretty nice voice.

  • This song was turned down by the Jackson 5, was a big hit for them.

  • @go339go This was the Osmond's first platinum single, and now they are living the GOOD life. They can choose what they want to do, where, and IF. They truly are America's rock family - nobody has replaced them, nobody has lasted as long as they have as a family - so proud of them. Go Osmonds!

  • The decision to emulate the Jacksons was one of management. The brothers completely changed their style when they began making their own decisions. They wrote their own songs and played their own instruments. Check out "Hold Her Tight" or "Crazy Horses". Both are rock songs and both were written by the brothers.

  • For the dislikers to this song you must love to hurt the ones that you end up hooking up with I feel sorry for the ones that get hooked up with you listen to the words to the song so much meaning. That's what I love about this song

  • The Jackson Five without the soul.

  • I don't care who wrote it. I love the song and The Osmonds sang it great. I love the songs that Merrill Osmond sang lead on.

  • Who would ever think a song like this could give such great advice.

  • This song was offered originally to the Jacksons but they refused it. Bad move or what ??

  • @koyah58 yea, cuz the Jackson's really suffered for it.....

  • @jiggerXLR8 negative!

  • donny sounds like michael jackson

  • @valeshia385 That Donny Osmond sounded like Jackson was deliberate. The Osmond Brothers - like many acts up to that day - were marketed as the white version of The Jackson Five. Silly as it might sound today, this was standard practise until the mid-70s.

Another famous example was Pat Boone covering a number of Little Richard songs. What frustrated Little Richard beyond words was how Boone's versions were toping and making better money than the very songs he himself wrote and perfomed!

  • @valeshia385 yeah i thought this was jackson 5 at first for that very reason

  • @valeshia385 Mike Curb tried....think he was the producer on this right..

  • @valeshia385 It was originally written for the Jackson 5! and Michael himself said his relatives thought michael was singing lead!

  • They look like Justin Bieber o.0 Am i mocking them?

  • I hoped one time that The Jackson 5 would have sang this song.Just to kill my curiosity.

  • Omg the kid on the left looks like justin bieder

  • @LUVuBUDDYkinda that kid on the left is Donny Osmond...

  • This song was originally for the Jackson 5, but they turned it down.....

  • Made me stop eating apples,,,

  • This is gay. So are people who are starting to like apples.

  • Far left 70s justin beiber :P

  • for some reason it sounds like a Jackson 5 song. but i love this song! donny was cute!

  • This song was the #1 song in the country 40 years ago today (2/15)

Being a 50 yr old ex professional musician who cut my teeth on things like ELP, Yes and Rush, there is an incredible appreciation for this song and the talent it took to pull it off. Throw in the fact that they were all family members gets extra point as well!

    Well down boys... well done!

  • I used to love the Osmonds too. I think it went, The Jackson 5, The Osmonds, and The Sylvers.

  • 17 people found a worm in their apples

  • i was born in 72 i was a baby

  • it sounds so weird when the prepubecent one suddenly starts singing

  • hahaha they were the jonas brother of 1971!

  • Dear, Black. People stop letting White people upset you over their stupid remarks

and statements on YouTube. You see this is the only way they can feel good about

themselves, is to say stupid things and watched for our responded. So that they

can tell their friends, that they got a bunch of Niggers pissed off at them!!!! So please, just don't responded to their comments, and they will stop.... Thank you.

  • Contrary to popular belief, Donny wasn't meant to be the lead singer. It was brother Merrill. Billboard's 288th #1 hit of the rock era. God bless ya, Osmonds!

  • I met the Jacksons mormon counterpart... which is no insult to anyone... just... wow....

  • The Jacksons & the Osmonds came at a time where there were no boys band, Both groups were the American dream that we were waithing for back then!!

  • Jimmy, you bad apple, you give that belt buckle back to the pro-wrestler you took it from!

  • love this song!!!!

  • THEY MIGHT AS WELL LET THE JACKSON 5 SING THIS PIECE OF SHIT... LOL WILL YOU WHITE PEOPLE PLEASE STOP TRYING TO CASH IN ON THE TALENT OF BLACK YOUTH?? PLEEEASE lol

  • @GWRevolution2008 Oh, calm down now, little troll. There..there.

  • @GWRevolution2008 I'm no racist , but i like the osmonds more than the jackson brothers.

btw, my best friend is black

  • @rsmaniac100 ,

This what makes this nation great, we have the choice who we like.

  • All white folks say that. Why do you have to tell us that you have best friend that's black. I have Asian, Caucasian, & friends of colour. That remark in itself, "btw, my best friend is black" is RACIST!! Who cares what colour your friends are....they are your friends and friendship has no colour! Stop using that term.

    You must be American.

  • All white folks say that. Why do you have to tell us that you have best friend that's black. I have Asian, Caucasian, & friends of colour. • were they not fuking awful my girlfriend back in the 70s loved them and told her to fuck off and have never seen her to this day hahahah tell a lie a married her

  • bieber is on the left of that cover

  • @ANDYDOBBS i totally agree

  • @ANDYDOBBS Hahaha the funny part of it all is that I would much rather listen to the Osmonds than Bieber. I'd rather listen to two dogs have sex than listen to him actually, so that doesn't speak volumes for Donny, Marie and the rest of the bunch...

  • @mrbourgeoiz just curious. How old are you?

  • @ANDYDOBBS Justin does look like Donny. Good thing I think they both are sexy.

  • @ANDYDOBBS LoL!!

  • OMG this track keeps playing in the background where I work and I've only just found out its by these guys! I thought it was the Jackson 5!

  • i had a 'ol afro when this came out. still got it!

  • Merrill sings lead..

  • Since Donny is really just a backup singer in this song, who's singing lead?

  • mj all day

  • この曲フィンガー5のカヴァーも見事だよなぁ、名曲

  • Mormom whores.

  • @rrhynes the osmonds are actually MEXICANS

  • OK.. here's the truth. This song was written for the J-5. Berry Gordy passed on it because it was written by someone who was NOT part of the Motown staff, therefore he could not control the publishing. The songwriter promptly took it to MGM, who had just signed the Osmonds and recorded it to sound like the J-5. Merill NEVER sang with that much soul before. The Osmonds WERE around before the J-5, but they sang more of a barbershop quartet typ of harmony. This was a direct ripoff of the J-5 sound.

  • @megavega4

    There you go....

  • omg the guy on the far left looks like justin beiber

  • @pwncat And since tis was 40 years ago, it shows how fucking retarded his hair looks now!

  • @rrhynes lawl. so true

  • As an African American, I have to confess that this was the very first record I purchased. I absolutely loved the Osmonds. Loved both J5 and Osmonds. I was young so I did not see them as competitors with the Jacksons. I just thought they both were talented groups. I actually met Donny in Irvine, CA many years ago, what a nice a person he was.

  • CONSPIRACY theories about the OSMONDS

1 ONE BAD APPLE is code for the end of the world ... everywhere except for UTAH

2 The osmonds are aliens ..from the planet MORMOS..right next to the planet LESBOS

3 The Osmonds father secretly made a pact with the DEVIL (walt disney) to insure the success of his kids

4 Donny Osmond has renewed his pact with the devil TWICE so far (remember "SOLDIER Of LOVE" and "Dancing With the Stars" anyone?)

  • The Osmonds started singing in 1958 and were regulars on The Andy Williams Show from 1962-1969. They were singing long before the Jackson Five were thought of.

  • to rena....from donny....

  • The Osmonds were trying to compete with the Jackson 5ive when they made this ...notice how much Donnie Osmond sounds like young MJ on this cut.....they did a pretty good job...best song they made in my opinion

  • The Osmonds were trying to compete with the Jackson 5ive when they made this

  • @goldenlady18k

yeah and?they were the white jacksons....eat their sparkly flares....

  • This is really a great song from the 70s thanks for posting this song

  • I loved this song when it came out!!

  • jackson 5 woulda done this song better.....

  • @zybotsu001 B.S

  • Christina you were one bad apple back in 1998!

  • the Jackson Five / The Osmonds... very very epic in the days :]

  • A bunch of Morons trying to do soul music...I mean mormons.

  • @danewson

If that's what you think of their religion, why did you even bother to listen to this recording?

A very bigoted dude, you are.

    Shame on you.

  • Aggggghhhhhhh! justin bieber! hahaha!

  • @alyandajrockerchick I was thinking the SAME THING! XD hahaha

  • idk if anyone else noticed this, but on that 1st picture the one on the left looks like justin beiber. lmao

  • I always thought this was the jacksons until mother told me it was the osmonds

  • My favorite Osmond song was Longhaired Lover From Liverpool by Jimmy and I believe that was his one and only solo hit.

  • According to "Michael Jackson: The Magic and the Madness" by J Randy Taraborrelli, this song WAS offered to the founder of Motown, Berry Gordy first for the Jackson 5 to record. Gordy declinded the song.

The song went to The Osmonds. Later, Gordy, The Jackson 5, and Joseph Jackson (the dad) were ticked off at The Osmonds for copying J5's sound. Little Michael said, "Relatives thought it was us!!"

  • @KingofPepsi Ironically, when the Jacksons were interviewed, one of them (I think it was either Jermaine or Tito) said that their father Joseph made the Jackson children watch the Osmond Brothers on the Andy Williams Show to see how they acted and performed on stage.

  • jbird11368, They may be true, however, it is very, very obvious that The Jacksons, especially Michael, had waaaaay more talent than The Osmonds. I was re-reading a chapter of the bio I mentioned that Joseph wanted his sons to appeal to a White audience as well as a Black audience.

Personally, Michael did not need to learn from The Osmonds, he already had studied James Brown, Jackie Wilson, and other greats to amazing perfection.

  • @jbird11368 Sorry for the error. I know that the Jacksons had also learned from James Brown and Jackie Wilson as well as the Osmonds.

  • @KingofPepsi stupid ass's the osmonds did not copy their sound the song was written by someone else and they performed it. besides generally imitation is not taken badly it is usually criticised as way off or taken as a compliment. the Disfuntion 5

  • muddack, I said the bio of MJ said the writer of the song had offered to Berry Gordy of Motown Records for The Jackson 5. Gordy turned it out, and The Osmonds recorded it instead.

The result was a Jackson 5-sound alike. Again, young MJ was quoted as saying, "Our relatives thought it was us!!"

  • this is good but i like the jackson5 version better

  • @slim5poppa post it. i have never seen or heard of it let us know where it is posted with a link on this page. thanks!

  • @slim5poppa There IS no J-5 version.. if you know of one.. post the link..

  • The kid on the far left........justin beiber, lol

  • @PBandMayo lmao, true

  • So true. I am Black and this was the first 45 I purchased. I loved the Osmonds and Jackson 5. A lot of White people don't realize how big some of those artist were to Black people. Elton John was another artist that sold well to Black audiences. He was a frequent guest on Soul Train back in the days. Just side note, I ran into Donny Osmond 12 years ago in a supermarket in Irvine, CA. I almost flipped.
