  • Ukrainian Prism?

  • Yes. It's the standard TTL (not the one with the spot metering). Pretty good and accurate. Though I'll buy a genuine Hasselblad some time soon. The PME51 I hope...

  • I've paid some $220 for a new TZ-3 (from a site called redcoon). Of course, it's not "the perfect all-around camera" (no one it really is), but it's real close to be the perfect "pocket camera" nowadays. Amazing 28-280mm Leica lens, good pic quality, superb value for the money. As an early example, my clip "Surfin' Aviles" on UTube was done mainly with it (look at the aerial pics and so), except the final night shots (with my Samsung Digimax i6 instead).

  • I've paid some $220 for a new Panasonic TZ-3 from a site called redcoon. Of course it's not a "perfect camera for every situation" (no one it is), but I think it's really very close to be the perfect pocket camera nowadays. Fantastic value for the money too. As an early example, my "Surfin' Aviles" on UTube was done mainly with this amazing little machine; check in the aerial pics etc. The final night shots were done with a Samsung Digimax i6, which it's stronger than the TZ-3 after sundown.

  • Thank you for all the info. Probably I will try the Bronica, which I think it's the lighter (I will use it for travel too). I also thought about an Kiev 60 MLU: great variety of lenses (and cheap), but, hell, it's a Sherman tank!

I've recently bought a new digicam too: Panasonic TZ-3 (7mpx, 16x9 clips, 28-280mm!). Excellent pocket camera at daylight, but a weak one at low light.

  • Is it indescretion to ask how much did you pay for the Panasonic and if was new or used?

The Kiev is an incredible solution. My father has used some of them and he think that they are almost indestructible;p Plus the are reliable enough. Not to mention the cost. One more thing is that you can use some older Hasselblad lenses. (1000F for example if I remember well). But of course this raises the cost a bit.

  • ETR:Yes they are considerably lighter, but if you start adding stuff (speed-grip, AE-II viewfinder, longer lens > or = 150mm), the weight is raising. But it's always lighter than a 500ELX with the same equipment. It's 6x4,5 => 15 exposures on 120 film and 30 on 220.

SQ: I've never used one, but I held one once. Considering it's size it's not that heavy. Plus it's been the "weapon of choice" for many professional photographers for quite a while. I think that its format is 6x6 (12/24 exposures)

  • Sorry if I'm explaining all these as if I was talking to a complete amateur without knowing your level of knowledge (which could actually exceed mine). But, just in case, if you already know all that stuff, it might be useful to someone else reading the post...

  • If you plan to use it for studio work (or with tripod generally) consider some older motorized Hasselblad. They 're a bit heavy to hold, but you 'll love it. I just bought my second 500ELX. (Maybe I'll give away my first).

  • All you'll have to do is add a filter and you 're done. I don't know what your budget is, but the 503 is still quite expensive. Maybe the CX is not that much. But the SQAi is just fine. Bronica has this nice hand grip that combined with a 90 degree viewfinder are very easy to hold. But again, if you can afford a 503 (especialy the CWD) go for it. You will be 100% digital ready, plus you will have incredible results.

  • Quite a collection you have there:) And it was a very good move to buy the V500. It will shave you time if you shoot people and you want to smooth the skin in photoshop. Even with low grain correction (not even dust-scratch removal) it will give amazing results.

  • I'm usually using Flexaret Standard, Agfa Isolette, Lubitel 166B (well, also Pentax MZM, Ricoh R1, and some digitals). Recently I bought a Yashica Mat on eBay, but it came broke and I couldn't use it).

I'm seriously thinking about getting me a Bronica SQAi or Hassy 503 soon, `cause nobody loves them now on these all-digital days! Actually I've just got now a new scanner Epson V500 to do a minimun justice to these old machines, too.

  • What's about your use of the Flexarets?

I've got an Standard model since 1 year ago, and it's nothing short of marvelous!

  • Well it's not like the best camera ever but I like it. I have a Flexaret V and a Lubitel 166B (if I remember them well). They both have astouning sharpness. I usually use them for landscapes or personal pictures (family, friends, vacation...). It's not like the best camera ever, but I like it because it has a very smooth knob and focusing. I just wrote that I use it as well, although I haven't loaded any film in it for a year or so. What cameras do you preffer in that category?
