  • Since these were real contestants, wouldn't a t-shirt be a deserved prize?

  • Square One Television is one of my all-time favorite kids shows and But Who's Counting is one of my all-time favorite segments from the show. My other favorite segments were Mathman, Mathnet, and the one where a mystery phone caller would call and give a neat math problem.

I hope they release this show on DVD some day. I would buy it on day one!

  • Does anyone know the name of the actor playing the host? He looks awfully familiar to me. :-)

  • I used to watch this with my dad in the mid80s. My dad always insisted that Arthur Howard was gay. Back then, I was only 7 and I didnt know what gay meant. But 23 years later, it is so obvious that Arthur Howard is a bit "light in the loafers" if you know what I mean,,,,skipping around the set of Square One. AM I the only one that think's he's gay???/

  • Did Ted Williams become homeless after this show?

  • The duck kid rocks.

  • I've got the nutty theme music they use for this skit as a ring tone..drives people nuts to figure where this music came from lolololol.

  • Ted Williams 1st announcing gig

  • Theme song sounds like trololo

  • DUDE!... a battery operated paper weight?? I always wanted one of those! >_>

  • This must be the only time they did this with real people.

  • AS I MENTIONED BEFORE, Weird Dude,

this IS the ONLY TIME that they produced a

    "But Who's Counting?" sketch with

    actual contestants.

What I want to know is:

Who offers FREE TICKETS at HALF... PRICE???

    > Professor DLC

  • I kinda liked it where they used actors instead of real contestants.

  • I remember watching this as a kid,

but I remember watching this same sketch with a vampire couple as contestants.

  • i want to play this game

  • Which season is this from? I'm curious.

  • This sketch is from the first season, NDW,

    as I mentioned before.

    > Professor DLC

  • What should be noted about this video is that this is the first AND ONLY installment of "But Who's Counting?" (a normally fictional Square One TV game) that acted as a real game with real contestants.

It may be possible that this is what inspired the real Square One TV game shows, particularly "But Who's Adding?" and the rare "But Who's Multiplying?" all from the first season only.

Indeed, the CTW legacy could have never been complete without "Square One TV".

    > Professor DLC

  • "did you offer my free tickets at half price?!' LOL! What a blast!

  • I played along while I watched the video and I got the high number in round 2!

  • same here! 71542 and 76530

  • mine's too

  • I think both teams win a Square One t-shirt.

  • This is both the only instance of this game I've ever seen where the teams were kids AND that there was an exact overall tie between the teams.

  • Does anyone have more clips of this game show with single players?

  • I watched this ALL the time as a kid...but I was too young to catch all the "inside" humor. Like the two male hosts being awfully friendly to each other...LOL how did they get that past the censors in the "Born Again" 1980s?

  • AMBER JANETTE!

  • @tlkshowhst Vanna Black! :-)

  • I kicked the crap out of those kids.

  • I'm going to address a few questions that have been asked that haven't been answered. No the wheel was not programed, it was completely random. No there wouldn't have been any trouble if they had called Monte Carlo "everybody's favorite game show host" because Children's Television Workshop produced both Square One and Sesame. Contestants were taken out of New York City primary schools where Square One was produced. And PBS stands for Public Boradcasting Service

  • BUT WHO'S COUNTING? was my favorite game show on SQUARE ONE TV becuase it was Great

  • and did a team ever get the largest possible number

(i know it did in the sketches when it was scripted with the entire cast playing

  • u think those spins were scripted too?

  • and by any chance did both teams ever end up with the same number? i ask because that almost happened in the 2nd game.

  • and the team on the left nearly got the largest possible number and i will say this, i don't blame them for putting the 7 in the thousands place. i probably would've done the same thing.

  • does any1 know what kind of bonus prizes they awarded for the largest possible sum?

  • was the wheel programmed to land on certain numbers?

  • how did they find contestants for these?

  • wow, the team on the right was on a roll going in2 the final spin of the 1st game

  • I like the ALL NEW...But Who's Counting, when its just Monte Carlo and Mr. Annoucer. It's cleaner and funnier that way.

I just wish that real kids were still used with the prizes frmm Close Call moved over this mini-show.

  • i'm guessing that if they hadn't put the word mathematical in there when they said "everybody's favorite mathematical game show host" they would've been in trouble for copying guy smiley's moniker from sesame street

  • that one chick said her name was matty anne, but her name tag said marien

  • and also, what kind of bonus prizes did they give for the largest possible sum?

  • monte was gonna strangle the announcer! LOLOL!

  • i agree that is hilarious!

  • "did you offer the free tickets at half price?" lol,

  • hahaha i love the comments to Amber: what out for your earrings...did you make that dress hahahah awesome

  • Good times! I remember playing along with this!

  • What the !!!! Untied Shoelaces?! Battery Powered Paperweight?!

  • hey they spare no expense on this show. And i want a battery powered paperweight

  • LOL Vanna Black. Thats more like it!

  • I always thought it was Scott Thompson, lol. Damn, I miss this show. I hate that TV sucks now.

  • I never heard the term Monte Carlo until third year statistics. I giggled when I heard it there.

  • I mean you have to determine the best place for each digit based on probability.

  • Well it does require one to play the odds and take a chance.

  • and this is not about strategy, in fact the rule that you can't move a number after you place it means that it's almost all luck, (at least as far as getting the highest possible sum is concerned

  • booboo, it's statistics, but yes, luck is a factor. But you can increase your odds of getting the highest number using statistical strategy.

  • PBS really had fun game show parodies (like those on Square One and Sesame Street) as well as fun game shows (i.e. Carmen Sandiego) back in the day.

  • WTF those prizes are so stupid!

  • all you have 2 do is put them in order from highest to lowest!!

  • yeah, but you can't move them after you place them. and they got real "prizes" afterwards. like a PBD tote bag or something.

  • Then again, the contestants should know to put 9 first and 0 last, regardless of when they're called.

  • You mean a PBS tote bag. They could've also recieved a collection of "3-2-1 Contact" or "Square One" videos, or something like that.

  • Wow, real contestants. That's unusual.

  • I liked the crazy contestants the cast made up as well as the goofy prizes.

  • Thanks for this clip. It's been over a decade (and a half, probably) since I saw it. Its nice to see kids playing!
