  • Now THAT'S what I CALL a key change!!

  • i loved marmalade they had same orchestra backings as the love affaire great songs

  • Marmalade what a Group this 60s Music style was always played at the local Ice Rink and we would chase the Birds around all day with our Mod Gear on Great Days Aye.

  • Please join the Marmalade Dean Ford - Singer Songwriter Facebook Group. Band members participate . Thanks!

  • i married my wife when this song came out still love d song and my wife

  • has anyone know of AWB

  • Still sounds good today, after four decades..

  • Falling Deeply for this great band ! Just discovering them :( 40 years too late ! Well I was a baby in their heyday..I'm huge Beatles fan..Their version of Ob La Di is fine imo. The Beatles will ALWAYS be best but every now and again a band does a great cover..they did one ! This a fun band. Dean Ford=FOXXXY

  • @Wigglingwench45 Same here! I was born in 1964 and too young to take it in consciously. I am rediscovering this stuff through my 13-year old daughter. These bands were very good...

  • Lead singer - Dean Ford; Lead guitar (lefty and upside down stringing!) - Junior Campbell; Drummer - Alan Whitehead; Bass - Graham Knight; Rhythm guitar and occasional 6-string bass - Pat Fairley.

They are from Scotland, and were originally known as Dean Ford and the Gaylords.

tubbychubby1 - you asked for any info - they have a facebook page, look for "Marmalade - Dean Ford".

Me personally, I think their harmonies are as good as The Beatles/Hollies/Bee Gees! :-)

  • Hi great band, can anyone give the names of the members and what they doing now, or any info,....cheers

  • AWSOME

  • Now THAT'S a key change!"

  • remained one of my favorite British group ever..the current ones especially the ones in the eighties and nineties are plain rubbish

  • i was only 17 back then walked into "The Ranch House" where my old mate Seth Davey was working heard this for the first time on the radio, first time I heard Marmalade stayed a fan for life

  • The original

  • Strangely enough, I don't remember this song, although I do remember Marmalade very well, and "Rainbow" has long been a favourite of mine. Listening to this song now, as if for the first time, I can't get over how much it sounds like the Hollies, another great British group from the sixties and seventies, especially the lead singer (Junior Campbell?). But I kept waiting for harmonies, knowing how excellent some of theirs were. Definitely an underrated group.

  • @Galericulus Yeah great group,I was 18 when Mary Anne was realed in 68.I think the lead singer was Dean Ford.

  • How clearly I remember buying this single. 40 years on, what a truly fantastic example this is of the perfect pop song.If the great Deity in the heavens grants me immortality, I'll still be listening to this in another 40 years!

  • Never heard of this band until today. I don't think they ever made it in the US, although it was a little before my time. This is an excellent single. Sounds great.

  • Explore more my friend, they were are a terrific band.

  • @briteness They had a top 10 hit in the USA in 1969 with Reflections Of My Life which by 1998 had been played over million times on US radio

  • Great song and just beginning to realise what a great group they were. Love the Beatles, but why did Marmalade have to record Ob La Di. Must have lived to regret that, although it probably made them a few quid...

  • Marmalade had made the earlier mistake

( at the end of 1967 ) of rejecting `Everlasting Love` as they said it was too pop orientated . It was then recorded by Love Affair and hit #1 in the UK early in 1968. Then later in 1968 they recorded Ob La Di !!

  • It got to No. 30 in the UK charts, entering the charts on 23 October 1968 and remained in the charts for 5 weeks. I always thought it had done better. A great 60s pop song!

  • yeah used to play it on 60s disco nights

  • What I really like songs from the late sixties & early seventies are the brass arrangement and this is a classic...a class on its own. Love it till this day. Marmalade wherever you are keep rockin'.

  • Should have been at least top 10!

In my own personal charts at the time it was number one, of course :)

  • wonderful tune---it just goes and goes

  • yes i never know why this song didn't do so well in the charts....it is a fantastic arrangement

  • super song, should have got higher in the charts

  • no vid but hearing song is good enuff

  • Great original Marmalade song!
