  • Joey~ love u~~love u~~~love u~~~ >3<

  • I don't mean to be rude. But to be frank, Hong Kong pop sucks. Lyrics are repetitive and there are literally no music involved. At least try to copy a few good examples from the west please... even the Japanese are doing it and they are doing quite a good job at it. If you need an example, try searching My Epiphemy - Body Talk just as an example. (this is "an example" ok? not the greatest I am saying. So don't take it too serious.) Just compare it and you will down grade this video immediately.

  • @Naeads Lol.. Just no man..

  • @tvbrules haha, care to "elaborate"? :P

  • @Naeads people have different taste in music =P

  • @quest2Beauty True, true. But I was more concern with the discusion on the talent of the singer. The majority of singers (or all of them) in Hong Kong employ or brought the songs off from other proffesional musicans. And in my believe, music is a form of expression of ideas through the person's "soul". So on the bases of that that Hong Kong singers singing other people's minds out loud does not make them talentful. It is just purely idolism, which... sucks :P

  • @Naeads I agree with what u mean, most singers in Hong Kong do employ or buy songs from other musicians (but it is also true that many other Asian singers do so too, so try not be sterotypical here). Different people have different things they are good at. Singers are people who perform the music with their voice. They may or may not be musicians. Thats why they are called SINGERS. Able to sing and influence people with their voice/performance is a talent of their own.

  • @stwinsc There is no doubt that those singers have talent in them. And in fact, I admire their courage being able to stand in front of thousands, which most of you would agree not many of us can do that, including myself. However, I can only say that that is all there's to it. Patronize me if you may but I am not satisfied. There is a difference between watching an entertainer and watching an artist painting. And that's the artist hold more meaning to life than the former.

  • @Naeads Well, I think everyone has the courage to do it (stand in front of thousands), but the point is, not everyone can be good at it (performing). Some people may be very talented in music composing and singing, but they may just not be the well-known (even in western). Why is that? Is it really a matter of talent ? Or is it because there is a transition in consumer taste (ie. people prefer to have some entertainment within it)? Or is it because people are purely idolism? I am not too sure.

  • @stwinsc It is not a matter of being well-known or not. In fact, I mostly exclude myself from main stream titles. The obvious reason is because they target the general audience that could net them more profit. Secondly, the talented are not popular because they do not meet certain criteria in marketing to the industry (i.e. Not being Pop for example). But having that said, Joey imo is not one of the talented. She's simply a performer, an entertainer, that's all.

  • @Naeads Of course. I never said Joey was a musician. No no. I agree she is simply a singer and a performer. There is no doubt about that. But first of all, you were talking about HK pop sucks, and then HK singers (in general) being not talented and then HK music as employing (not original) and then now there are some talented and Joey is not. If you wanted to just point out Joey is not talented, you can just say so from the beginning. I am always talking IN GENERAL.

  • @Naeads but don't you think asian singers/artists/music should keep their own style? You say they should add some western music to it...

I think people can "copy" music but they still have to convert it into their own style.

  • @dragonwing4 Yes, indeed they should. And it would be a good thing for that matter. However, though I think I might have made a mistake by saying "copy", since they have done it and quite literally, exept the "convert" part. But the fact is, do they have any style to begin with? Because I don't recall any singer made they own music or composed any songs with their own two hands. All were brought from professionals and all use recordings in live concert. What I'm arguing is that they lack talent.

  • Comment removed

  • @Naeads Well, I guess you haven't seen much facts. There are many HK singers who do (or try to) compose their own music, for example, Khalil Fong, Hins Cheung, Ivana Wong, Rubberband, Beyond and etc (I can keep on going, but there is a limit on characters). Their musics may not be the BEST, but good enough for some (and possibly most) Asians in the world to know them. And about the recordings in live concert, this is funny. Don't you think you should be in ONE first before making a conclusion?

  • @stwinsc I have lived half my life in HK, there were times when I hold HK music as the standard of approval to all music. *However, and this is important, I wish to express that some people haven't seen enough in this world to decide what is good and what isn't*. Personally being "good enough" is not enough. I do not spend my money on stuff that is just "good enough". Frankly I have been to concert*s* before with my family and it was the experience back then changed my attitude toward HK music.

  • @Naeads Music is an art. Some people like the Hip-Hop genre, others like the country genre. There is no such thing as the standard of Music. Being "good enough" for people to know their music is not enough? Okay. Well I guess most artists around the world (not just HK) are not "good enough" in your standard, unless you spend your money on all western music.

  • @stwinsc You just proved my point. Music is art. Now look at the video above and tell me is that art? Between a caviar and plain jam, if they're the same price, which would you choose? But allow me to say again: "some people haven't seen enough in this world to decide what is good and what isn't." It refers to people who haven't tasted caviar. If you say plain jam is good enough, that's fine, you are allow to choose. But atleast people should listen to both sides first. Same goes for music.

  • @Naeads You are making BIG assumption that is not realistic in this world. I wish caviar and plain jam are the same price. Even IF they are the same price, some people might still choose plain jam or even butter over caviar. It is not like they haven't tasted something this good. It is just that caviar is not their thing. Yes, you can say their taste sucks. But this is reality. Music has more than two sides. In fact, so many sides that it'll take a life time to digest all the music in the world.

  • @stwinsc So I choose caviar as the standard for food. Same goes for music. Having tasted something good you wouldn't want to go back a level would you? Sorry if all these are a bit rude, my apology. But I just wanted to express how I feel.

  • @Naeads Hmm, to say the truth, I don't know about that. Having tasted something good (like caviar), I don't know if I will go back a level, I never experienced that before. Coz usually when I eat something for quite a while (because i love it so much), I usually would change my taste, maybe have some bread or congee instead. But maybe after a while, I'll go back to it. Does this count as go back a level?

  • @stwinsc no no, I don't think that's going back a level, changing taste is simply natural. But what I am saying is, look at the video suggestions on the right, imo those are beyond going back a level. That's what I am saying. The word they "suck" would probably sum up what I've been trying to say. ---->

Those are the general HKpop looks like ---->

Let's try something new. Look for U2, Greenday, Westlife, RHCP. Then look to the right ---->

  • @stwinsc It might be a bit biased of me. But there is a saying which has been going around the net lately: "I prefer watching Naria over Twilight, and Henry Potter over Naria." Obviously they all suck but I'd rather watch Henry Potter then even touch Twilight. And HKpop is the Twilight version. I'd rather go for the mentally break down capable US hiphop music than HKpop. ^^

It was quite disrespectful of me to say that but that's the simplest way I could say.

  • @Naeads i think u meant Harry Potter lol

  • @xjssimx Shhhh! No one catches no crime done. I should have said Harrieta Potter... Just to make it more feminine.

  • @dragonwing4 And now that I think about it again, I remember what I meant was that; they have fallen to such a state that "copying" is the only thing they could keep their rice in the bowl. Forgive me if I have offended anyone who's reading this but I am simply trying to make a statement objectively with the facts so far as I can see.
