HAHAAHHAH ahahha ahaha i went to el rodeo, they were re cunstructing somthing at the hilton and they had cement trucks and etc, their and we still had p.e and time outside, a building wouldnt have done anything,,, beverly hills people make me sick
The 4 Seasons has in L.A.,not BH. Sales Taxes are down 16% in Sept from one year ago, per the City CFO, that includes 2 Rodeo. Other than the Waldorf in NYC, all of the others are gorgeous resorts. They are doing very well. They can easily build in Century City. There are at least 3 sites available, including one overlooking BHHS that is in L.A. I would rather have a tall condo tower facing SM Blvd and have all the green open space, then the same number of units with fewer garden and open areas.
The old Beverly Wilshire hotel is now a 4 Seasons. Any economic downturn will also affect luxury hotels, not just retail. There is NO other Waldorf-branded hotel outside of NY ("Waldorf Collection" hotels all have different names), so the BH brand is crucial to Hilton's efforts to revitalize the shabby Waldorf brand. There are other luxury hotel brands that would love to come to BH. Just make the project smaller and more BH-like, like the Peninsula, which is very successful without condos.
Mindhead must not live in BH. Three towers on the corners of Wilshire & Beverly Drive are vert close in height to the proposed Waldorf project. The Pres. of Hilton Corp sent a letter stating that the Waldorf is not coming back to BH if Measure H loses -- that is not Alagem - this is the corp. parent. Remember the 4 Seasons. Everyone said they would come back with a smaller project - and they built a larger project in LA on Doheny. We get the traffic, LA gets the $. Vote Yes on Measure H.
The "Waldorf" is only 20% of the new sq footage being planned by the Hilton: the rest is condos. The 18 story tower would be the tallest building in the history of BH. Instead of the 4 Seasons (which did come back to BH eventually), BH got 2 Rodeo, one of the most successful, defining properties in BH. The Doheny project was going to be built anyway (as a Ritz-Carlton). The Hilton corp. says the Waldorf won't be back? It's BS. The fraying Waldorf brand needs BH more than BH needs the Waldorf.
Drive down Wilshire. The Waldorf project is about the same height as the Beverly Wilshire Hotel's tower. What's wrong with that? The estimates of economic benefit come from independent financial experts working for the City. And the increase in gasoline to fill police cars & ambulances and increased teacher salaries and everything else that makes BH great keep going up. Get real. How are we supposed to afford our great city? Somehow I think these complainers won't volunteer to pay extra taxes.
If you like skyscrapers so much, you might consider moving to Chicago or Dubai. But skyscrapers are not BH. If you really like BH, you should consider that the hotel is what generates money for the City. Condos cost the city money, as the City Treasurer confirms. The Hilton wants to build 4 sq. feet of condos for each new net sq. foot of hotel. To answer your trenchant question, we afford BH by sending the developer back with a no vote and getting a better deal for the City.
Clearly, if you were negotiating, we would not get a better deal. Thank goodness you are not. And by the way, whether you consider 18 (yes 18, not 16) stories a skyscraper or not, it is 7 stories higher than the current tallest building in BH and that is just too big. You clearly don't think that BH is a brand worth anything, so you might consider moving to a city more worthy of your presence, like Basra or Kabul.
this measure is not good for the city of Beverly Hills because of the precedence that this would have over the city. i wouldn't like to see skyscrapers across my house and Hilton hotel employees parking in front of my house all day and night. if this measure passes , we will see bigger buildings in Beverly Hills.
the financial benefits to the city has been exagerated tremendously and lied about. city is rich enough and doesn't need this money. we don't want manhattan skyscrapers.
And I loved anime until I read your posting. It would seem that being obsessed with anime can lead to synapsal short-circuiting and the need for constant reality checks. You might want to consider producing an anime video showing your support for Halliburton and Philip Morris and other great corporate citizens like the Hilton. Have fun dancing at the Waldorf, but be sure to wear your best clothes: you'll be dancing in the lobby, since they won't have a ballroom.
What's wrong with making money. Come on,we live in Beverly Hills. If you didn't make money, your parents did, and I wonder if the people complaining just have famous names who are only members of the Lucky Sperm Club. Terre Thomas is in the video...what has she ever done for BH? John Mirish and his blog hasn't even lived here for 20 years. What has he ever done except have a relatively famous name? The owner of the Hilton was very generous to BH charities BEFORE he even owned the Hilton.
I have lived in BH for a long time and I've watched city government. I am voting Yes on Measure H. I have been involved and contributed to the Maple Center, BHEF, the Fire & Police Assn. and more and I have never seen most of the people in this video at any of these community events. All they do is whine and complain and they never offer anything positive. With the Governor announcing today that he is cutting $4 billion from schools, we need all the help we can get.
The Hilton stands to earn a BILLION dollars if Measure H passes. They can afford to throw scraps to the Maple Center - which they only do so people like you believe their propaganda. Hey, I'm sure even Halliburton and Philip Morris have donated money to charity. Do not delude yourself: the Hilton owner isn't helping anyone but himself. A BH school board member has said this expansion may COST the schools money. If you really care, you'd vote No and make them come back with a better project.
Whoops, L Fraud. Seems you got it wrong. L Ron used religion to try to satisfy his unquenchable greed and manipulate people. That's what the Hilton is doing. Perhaps you can suggest to your friends at the Hilton that they set up a Scientology center there! Presumably, you'd be a level 13...
I moved to Beverly Hills in 1971. I left in 2006. It's just not the city it used to be. This would be the final nail in the coffin. It's dispicable. Although it won't affect me now that I'm no longer a resident, it will affect my mother who is. She's voting NO on H.
The last bit (about the false Democrat flyer) REALLY should be at the beginning of this video. With the endless lies of the presidential campaign (majority from the McCain side), most independent and I believe Democrat and Republican alike, have no patience/tolerance being mislead in anyway
Yes on H, lost my vote when they sent out those Registration Forms. Has anyone in No on H, checked with the County Office to see how many they actually received, b/c I'm sure Voter Reg Fraud is a possibility
We have a beautiful city which has progressed in modernization at a speed we can live with. The height of the buildings is a major concern to us & the precedent that it will establish. Wouldn't it be terrible to have a string of high rise buildings in our beautiful city? Also, the traffic between BeverlyGlen & Sta Monica/Wilshire on both Sta Monica & Wilshire is already so bad, what will happen with so many added cars? Adding a lane is like bringing coals to New Castle. I urge a NO VOTE ON H!
This video is a disgrace. It shows false apects of the projects and old renderings. Ex Mayor Stone is a criminal and should not even be part of this video. Really guys its 2008 expansion is part of society. Go move to the woods if you dont want to see expansion. Because of this false video im voting YES ON H!
Away1234567890 is clearly working for the Hilton and conveniently just signed up for you tube. How would you know what renderings are current or not? The fact is that the model used in the video is from the Hilton's storefront on Beverly Dr. The Hilton forces will say and do anything to win -- it is all and only about the money for them. Nobody is talking about moving to the woods, but growth that is sensible. If you like skyscrapers in a residential town, perhaps you should move to Dubai.
You are clearly false about your accusations. I do not work for the hiton just because I have a differing opinion to yours and also do you think every voter this video got sent to has a youtube account? NO. I signed up to voice my opinion. And I'll tell you how I know the renderings are wrong, because I attended or viewed many of the planning commsion meetings. You should also know they are false. Good try though.
Are you seriously suggesting that the Hilton has a false model in its own office? Why does watching planning commission meetings qualify you to comment on renderings? The project has changed since then. If you don't work for the Hilton, you clearly believe their propaganda: they have spent over $3 million trying to get people like you to believe their spin. Very clearly your mind was already made up. It is too bad you do not mind being manipulated by a developer who is motivated by greed.
What makes you qualified to comment on any of this? Is it because you have a blog? I dont think that gives you any credibility. Tell me why devolopment equals greed. Why do you work? to make money. Its called capitalism, everyone is trying to make money. The city needs money. But im sure you are fine with taxes to rise in a few years.
Not all development equals greed. There is sensible development. This is not such a case; this is a case of greed run amok. The Planning Commission gave the developer 85% of what he applied for. It wasn't enough. It's the same kind of boundless greed that we've seen on Wall St. and which has brought the world to the brink of financial disaster. By the way, if you want revenue for the City, you'll vote NO and force the developer to come back with a project that offers the City a better deal.

Good video, but also as mentioned the huge condo component of the expansion doesn't generate any money for the City. The revenues come from the TOT tax. So the benefit would be just as great, if the condo's were taken out of the project completely. Vote NO ON H.
I am afraid you have been mislead. The property tax on the hotel AND condominiums will generate large amounts of property tax revenue for the City and the School District. The School District alone could receive between $750,000 and $1.5 million EVERY YEAR.
You are missing the issue. Building a nuclear power plant would also generate large amounts of property tax revenue for the City and School District. This is about what is appropriate for BH and in keeping with the Community character. Keeping BH distinct and special will be best for long-term property values and better for the schools. Turning BH into Century City will dilute the charm and value of the City and will end up costing all of us much more than $1.5 million a year.
wonderful, as a resident on the corner of durandt and charleville and a child with more years at el rodeo, my immediate concerns are worth mentioning REALLY how bad the impact on the el rodero school it is. In addtion, continuing the details of how large it really is, that was a frighting point. thank you so much for making this informitive video.
