I have the same laptop and I dropped it, and it no longer charges. I have opened it and checked the DC jack and the motherboard, but don't really know what's wrong. Is this the right video to watch?
I haven't had much luck in removing the DC jack myself. Even using soldering braid and everything. First time I tried on a Dell, I think I burned the motherboard. Good thing I found a replacement for $45. This Gateway, however, is $115 plus shipping and handling. Any advice on how to remove that DC jack?
@Mr2010gartman the copper wire he is using is a special solder sucking type wire that pulls the old solder off the board and the holes to allow a new part to go into the holes and be re-soldered.
the problem I am having is that I hooked the wrong gateway power supply to my gateway laptop it was very fast plug in and out I realized it was the wrong one as I was plugging it in.my question to you is what do I have to do to fix this it wont power up now even with the right power supply and the battery is good I was just replacing a fan
Did this today on my Dell E1505 and killed my laptop. I tried to desolder the jack and had it nearly completely removed except for one really stubborn piece in the middle. Finally got it out but the entire board was so hot. I put everything back together and the power turned on, lights turned on but LCD was completely blank. I figured I got the motherboard so hot that something desoldered that wasn't suppose to. Oh well. Got bout 6 good years out of it.
@KidGloves2112 It is a very difficult repair and if you not experienced it is very easy to damage the laptop. call us at 1-866-220-4941 exgt 0 if you want to send in for a FREE diagnostic for the repairs.
I was having trouble getting the jack removed, then when I watched this and saw to desolder the top rear side where the jack sits on the board, I got the jack... off!
Wow - I'm a TV repair tech and had trouble with this one - I've actually found if you use a rotary tool and a cutting disc to cut the top of the metal housing in half you can pull the plastic housing out and then it's easier to get to the solder points that are on top of the board
i cant get the jack to desolder completely... 1st of all the braid I ordered is way to small i think (#2 1.5m prowick) and the tip that came with my Weller WP35 isnt the pencil type. Its kinda like a reg screwdriver shape and kinda wide...
@tt2ent You can usually remove the tip and get a new one. Go to your local electronics supply store if you can swap your tips and get a new one. Good luck, be careful not to break anything!
This video has convinced me that this is something I don't want to do on my own...I am just going to pay the $40.00 to get it repaired. You have some skills. I don't have a steady enough hand to work with small parts.
are you guys las vegas cuz i got a dell latitdue d520 dat wont charge and we try everything updating bios and new battery and new charger still wont charge
I got a Gateway NV53 and the power jack wouldn't charge. I had to wiggle the jack and prop up the jack plus keep it still. I realized the little round metal part inside the jack was loose so I used a pen to push the metal part back and so far no more problems but I'm going to never fuck with my jack again. When I disconnect it I'm ever so gentle. How about making some better DC jacks?
What wattage iron is that? Any tips on getting one to work after it's been burned on the + tip solder point (on the motherboard)? Motherboard still powers up with battery, and I attempted a resolder on the jack, but the motherboard appears to be scorched. Is there another place on the motherboard that's 'hot' that maybe I can jump a wire to?
Awesome video! This is what I have been looking for and found it in a single click. Even more so, what's the name of the song that you used for this video? I like it!
Agreed, huge pain in the ass. Just got done with the same model laptop, same problem. I managed to fix the old jack by just resoldering all the connections.
Do you know where to jumper the + pin on thdc jack back to the motherboard. When the jack solder joint came loose it lifted the soldering ring that connects it to the motherboard. Im looking to jumper from the pin to the next spot electrically to the motherboard. any ideas?
Well played around with ARC 200 got it working for three days. Then while on youtube looking at video dog eating in china whamm shut down. Now the power lights went off again arghhh. I may just sell for parts bad thing is i just ordered a new high cap battery!
is that the MT6730? looks like the one i use to have peace of shit the DC port got loose the hard drive went u know what i did with it? took it ran it over with the fucking car i will never buy a gateway again!!!!!! i had to compaq presario notebooks one is 3 years old with windows vista the other is almost 2 with vista the gateway i only had for 6 months and the assholes at gateway wouldnt replace any of it because they think its customer damage pshhhhhh u fuckers
all laptop power connectors are crap. they use standard off the shelf parts, never expecting the user to stress the connection! Ha! whats needed is something like the USB connector with wiping style connections and toughened mechanical foundations. Since batteries have pre-determined life cycles, use my laptop on AC cord, & leave the battery use for extreme conditions when far from AC source. do the designers ever listen? NO, THEY DONT, THEY ARE FULLY EDUCATED IN THE ART OF BEING JACKASSES!
How about Gateway ARC 200 ever fixed one? I have a guy install a new jack but didnt fix my problem. I bought a mother board off bay. Installed the separate dc board and if i push down hard on the plug my lappy powered on after 3 years of not working. Could the battery be shorting out or maybe the real problem aftermarket power supply that i got off bay.
Well I find doing it alot more harder lol. After taking apart my laptop which is the same brand in the video. I couldnt get the dc jack off no matter how much I tried with my soldering iron. Any tips?
Is the plug box standard for all electronics, or specific to the laptop? I have plenty of soldering experience, but this will be my first repair of a laptop power box. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
good job without a desoldering tool....when its not a dc jack then your in trouble...let me know!!! I know all the fixes for these gateways...I also service hp, sony, dell, sagar, alienware, and many others....if you need help dont hesitate to drop me a line, I make a living doing this stuff....

what if the power dc jack works and battery light is always charging on that unit
but you need to press the power button 10 times ONLY WHEN UNIT IS COLD
could this be a possible bad power button , but why would it turn on and off when unit is warmed up, possible component on the motherboard?
