The west side of the airport is where the International Terminal is, and this is where you find the large aircraft of the trans-ocean airlines. The long wait at the beginning could have been for many reasons, possibly another aircraft landing on the southernmost runway and then crossing over this runway to the terminals, or waiting for the wake turbulence of the previous aircraft to subside.
