Magnificent! Such charm, intonation and beauty rarely happen in ONE artist alone! The most perfect blend of the best of instruments and a true virtuoso - Chopin would fall in love instantly and Rossini must be in heaven!!!
Secondo me e' una Rosina ideale in tutti i sensi!
Wow...she IS Rosina! I have never perceived the character in this aria so perfectly before. Her singing is elegant, polished, tasteful, playful, and utterly captivating. BRAVA!!!
Anna Moffo looks gorgeous & sexy here. It was rare in her time to see a beautiful opera singer (not anymore though). Her costume/look here is just like Carmen !(which she never sang). I like Moffo's singing but the role of Rosina in Barber of Seville I prefer for a mezzo-soprano di coloratura to sing it. The best example is Teresa Berganza, Cecilia Bartoli and Jennifer Larmore

she is too cutey pie with a cloying pretentious singing style and mannerisms, not to mention hideous taste in cadenzas and tempi. She sounds like Miss Prissy on the Foghorn Leghorn cartoons. Truly an agonizing affair.
yes she did, at 40. Many criticize and blame her "horrible technique"
(I disagree! It may have been not perfect, but... horrible?!). Anyway, she lost her voice because of the frenetic and intense activity - she sang 12 new roles in 1 year - so her strings wore out pretty quickly.
ok... I've never heard a version of this aria better than Callas'... until now! I love the dark tone in Maria's low notes which does justice to Rossini's casting of Rosina as a contralto, but my gosh, Anna Moffo really went for it here! Beautiful!!!
OK, I actually saw much of this clip again this time WITHOUT sound and I am even MORE convinced she IS Rosina! Definitely as Rossini envisioned her - especially since without the sound, you don't notice she is a soprano and not a mezzo.
Anna Netrebko eat your heart out. And while your at it go back to Renata for more schooling. She is probably so afraid to admit to being one of your teachers.
For me anna was perfect since this was the time when technology was practically nothing; yet she emits a flawless, velvetty and impeccable voice- almost as soft as cotton. How effortless. Also a beauty!!
Wow, I didn't know she had sung Rosina, let alone recorded it in movie. Her singing is wonderful and spirited and she looks appropriately splendid (and also very charming)!

Stunning, incredible what a performance in all respects. She was a very great talent.

Why is the orchestra tuned so high? Seems almost a semitone sharp. Or is it the recording?
regulargonzalez 4 months ago
Charme, elegance, beauty, good taste, "duende" and "pellizco". She was not a "sevillana" but, no doubt, she would have deserved to.

Una voce poco fa
qui nel cor mi risuonò;
Il mio cor ferito è già,
e Anna fu che il piagò.
A voice has just
echoed here into my heart
My heart is already wounded
and it was Anna who shot.

Voice is a natural giving like the whole life.
one will get 100 Jears, an other only 40 jears. One cane sing till 100 Jears (see Johannes Heesters) one only till 40 jears.
this is natur not technic.

I always thought that in voice and appearance, she IS Violetta of La Traviata.
Now I know, she is also THE Rosina!

This is lip synched (and not very convincingly) off her second solo album for Angel, released in 1959, "Coloratura Arias".
