LOL @ "It was newsworthy b/c it was what Tom Cruise was doing." Amazing what "journalism" has become. And she says it- in that vapid, gutted city voice--- priceless. Interesting, however---- how she totally buys into "psychotherapies" as the secular religion (why Jews don't acknowledge Reform Jews as real Jews---basically they are raised by shrinks, in a sense). The speaker is more intereresting than what she says for her lack of any form of self-consciousness.
Having definitions or labels for organizations is not violating the first amendment.
The IRS gives and takes tax status from organizations, and by that in America most consider such as a governmental consideration. In other countries there is an official government decision upon the status of cult or religion or etc, I know not what America does but I see no violation of your first amendment, especially if they do "everything but" label.
Interesting, though I think it's important that people know that $cientology is not recognised as either a religion or a charity in the UK, and other countries.
This cult is spychology and pschiatry practiced religiously

The USG does not say Scientology is a religion. That would violate the first amendment. It does say is is a charitable organization.

@adhocrat1 It should not be either. Canada blacklisted this cult a long time ago. Google R v. Church of Scientology of Toronto
