  • Fantastic Point. Th goalies of today are playing with living room sets as pads compared to the old timers.

  • @jmg4314 I hear you about the goalies...they are much better athletes than goaltenders of the past. But still - and nobody agrees with me on this...the fact that the pads are abot 40% larger across the board than they used to be has a lot to do with it. The stand-up goaltender is a thing of the past. I'm not sure athleticism has quite as much to do with it as people think. If Bernie Parent or Eddie Giacomin had today's massive pads, they probably would have finished with career GAA below 2.

  • I'll betcha JD burned that mask.

  • @Tubewings The story goes that Mask CRACKED lol. I will let you work on a punchline for that one Tubewings Thanks for the comment.

  • Man I remember watching that shellacking J.D. took against Bruins, LOL. Todays goalies are much more athletic. J.D. looked off balance a lot and not playing positionally sound. It's ironic though that today on NHL Network they discussed that goalies used to have their own style and were not particularly positionally sound whereas todays goalies are coached at an early age to playing positionally and technically sound. You don't see the unique styles in goalies as much these days

  • look at the Park goal. never mind JD, why would the 2 defensemen back up almost into the corners and let him walk in alone untouched like that, power play or not?

  • @iceman112677 iceman good call those defenseman Tom Laidlaw and My good friend Chris Kotsopoulos. That was Kotsy's first game and on that play it looked like it !

  • @iceman112677 actually you really shoud be asking where were the forwards? Why weren't they backchecking? The defesemen were in proper position, the front of the net was clear and Laidlaw tied up his man nicely. J.D. should have been coming out of the net some to shut down angle and challenge Park

  • @jmg4314 you're right i guess they (the forwards) were trapped

  • He was crappy because of one thing... he came right into the NHL lineup from juniors... he has to learn in the minors, fact of life even in 1973. MOMO, I FEEL FOR THE RANGERS LOSING THEIR PLAYOFF SPOT TODAY BUT GO PENGUINS GO HAHA

  • @cutterTML

GL To your Pens. I'm a big fan of Brooks Orpick BTW

  • I was at the first game against the red wings March 31,1980. After they scored to make it 5-2 I got disgusted and left. That was the night NYC transit threatened to go on strike (they did). I knew I had at least a 2 hour trip home and didn't want to take chances. So what happens? I leave and the Rangers score 5 in the 3rd, including a Don Maloney hat trick and win 7-6. It would have been worth walking home to see that.

  • wow

  • In the footage against the Bruins he does not look like a professional athlete. That 5-hole is so huge, he's flippin' and floppin'. Awful.

  • In 1980, he actually played well in the playoffs defeating the Atlanta Flames but bowing to Pete Peters and the Flyers in the 2nd round.

  • where is tonto?

  • snowclouds right J.D hit his peak

  • haha where do tyou com with this stuff.. J.D did look like a fish out a waterlol

  • Years and Years of collecting and trading with other collectors

  • Paris Hilton is what????

    LMAO!!!

By the way, where do you get all this classic game footage? I want to see these games.

  • You're absolutely right about that! He peaked in the playoffs of '79. That was a great run but that's all he had.
