Abstraction is not the goal, sincerity in expression is the goal, quality is the goal. Abstraction is a by-product. It's like asking: "You have driven a BMW in the past. Will you ever drive another car that has wheels from a BMW?"..... (WTF??) Am I wrong on this?
That first question was very good. It just proves that david lynch doesn't put any nonsense in his movies. Many people including myself wondered is there really any sense in Inland Empire. Also I read many theories which includes superstitions but this is not true eather. Everything makes total sense in realistic level.
I thik that the feelings in the work of David Lynch are very strong. In Lost Highway I really felt cheated somehow.
I've watch a dumbland episode right now too and I think it was like seeing a real accident, not like when you see some cop movie and they kill each other or somethin'. It was that feeling when you see REAL violence, but actually it was just a crappy cartoon.
Well i don't know if I explained myself clearly, my english is not perfect but i love american culture.
Dumbland is available on DVD. I got it from Netflix a couple weeks ago. Hilarious. Lynch is one of the few directors who can make stuff that actually makes me laugh from deep in my gut. Not those brief titters that you experience when seeing a "box office smash."
People here might have a problem with him, because in a world of left brain trained people, right brained people stand out as "odd".
People need to understand that creative types who make a hard cognitive shift to the right, often have to focus in order to convey their thoughts.
If that's over your head, read "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain", by Betty Edwards. That should give you some insight, and hopefully put an end to maligning people calling them drug-users.
People can dog him all they want. If we take a look at shows like X Files, Outer Limits, Northern Exposure, Corner Gas Six Feet Under to name a few and see their Twin Peaks qualitys. Not too mention the stars David has introduced such as Kyle Mclachlan, Naomi Watts, Sheryl Lee, Laura Dern.
We try and expand our minds and recognize that despite David's not so run of the mill way of thinking, writing and shooting movies.. his influence on our pop culture is very important. This separates David Lynch from A-typical filmmakers in Hollywood. Maybe no Oscar for David... but thank God we have him.
I could say any better than you 'febufilmz'. A true artist like Mr. Lynch doesn't need an award to prove he's a genius. He's a true indie filmmaker and we need more like him, cause I got this strange feeling that the indie film movement is being compromised.
@febufilmz Directors who never win Oscars are usually the best. Kubrick, for example, never won best director, which is the greatest atrocity the Oscars has committed. So Lynch really doesn't stand a chance with his odd style, but that makes him a better director than the generic crap that DOES win Oscars.
@soulblazerz I hope you have even more sympathy for us rarer ones - left and right hemispheres switched all the way, fucking ON, (at least after a delayed waking up period)... I guess that's why I don't have patience for Lynch (talking) nor Chomsky nor many people considered interesting and/or intellectual - talking loud, a LOT of words, but so little ideas! Sure, whoever "maligned" with drug accusations is an imbecile - whereas BORING would be a much sharper interpretation :)
Thank you, Febufilmz, for putting this video up. I'm always interested in David Lynch's comments and ideas. Good news from him about trying to get more Angelo Badalamenti music on disc. Aslo pleased to hear that he would consider making another "widely abstract" film like Eraserhead.
canada? never heard of that, how does it taste like?

Why did they send some student when Lynch repeats the question?
Randyhart 5 months ago
Kind of weird how he repeats the question before answering.

@tml4873
nah, it seems he wants to process them properly himself before answering them.
it's kind of giving respect to the person that asked.

gotta agree very weak questions.
I'd love to know if there is chance twin peaks could resurface in some shape form i.e. as season 3 or finale to the end of season 2.

I would guess, if he was on the Actor's Studio show and James Lipton asked him what his favorite word was, he would say "Beautiful" :)

@CocoaShunter Don't blame the questions: ask me ANYTHING and I'll be all over it... Over rated, somewhat feigned intellect, no thanks.

@persianprincessacu he's a film maker not an 'intellect', and who are you to decide if he's feigning anything?
