  • There isn't a better version of this song. I think even James would agree.

  • @nansir

"There isn't a better version of this song. I think even James would agree.

He certainly did, 5:53 says it all.

  • Great song and performance. I have looked everywhere to find this song with her singing it but can't find it. Any suggestions on where I can find it?

  • @BigJerryWayne61 You can find this track on DVD "A MusiCares Person of the Year Tribute Honoring James Taylor" [ASIN: B000GH3QFI ], released on October 3, 2006.

    Enjoy it.

  • What a truely beautiful work of art. Alison Krauss is a national treasure.

  • i get shivers down my spine everytime i hear ak & jd!

  • Phenomenal version of this song. I worship JT but I think they gave him a run for his money here. Sweet vocals by Allison backed by fantastic musicians. Surely a classic!!

  • watch?v=zBy9t171DEM

(Alison would like this sweet vocal)

  • best dobro player in the universe. Allison ain't bad either.

  • Jerry Douglas...man, what a musician!

  • Allison's vocals are just beautiful.........26 grammy awards won.....not surprised.

  • If there is a heaven, Allison will be the most likely to get there....

  • Yes we know shes no James Taylor and No we dont care.

  • she has an amazing voice

  • What a pair...Talent overflowing... They're both National treasures...Have you ever heard anything more pleasing? I sho' nuff ain't!

  • THIS GUY ON DOBRO IS GENIUS.... ABSOLUTE BEST THERE IS....ALISON AIN'T BAD

  • Love this!

  • if ya' ain't never been to sakerlina..ya'll need to come breath the clean air, walk in the woods and get yer head clear. plenty of bodacious herb about too.

  • wow

  • I'm from S. Carolina and I saw James Taylor many years ago live with my biological father, who I've not had a relationship with since... it is the last, and only good memory I have with him

  • 2 people can't sing this song..

  • I thought JT was from Georgia. But this sounds like an hommage to one's birth place. Iconic! (my new word)

  • I think angels attend her!

  • this has the makings of the ultimate cowntry song ... only better .

  • Perfection "in my my mind."

  • if u think shes the best singer like this

  • What a piece of absolute perfection....just stunning. Classic song, truly great singer and musicians.

  • Wow, Jerry Douglas is known as one of the world's greatest Dobro players! What an honor! And Alisson has the voice of an angel, and is a virtuoso at her fiddle! Besides the modern bluegrass Alison Krauss&Union Station make, I only enjoy the Dixie Chicks as much! That's not to say I don't appreciate the hundreds and thousands of great bluegrass groups out there, or from the past! BobbyK :+)

  • Not a big hit when James Taylor wrote this song but it certainly stands the test of time. He looks awfully proud of Allison's rendition which is beautifully done

  • @Circles1999 this was a very big hit for JT

  • There ain't no doubt in no one's mind ...that this is one of the best songs ever written.

  • What can you say ? One of the best songs of all times with Allison singing like an angel, Jerry in best shape (instrumental and vocal !) and the fabulous James Taylor Band as a background - this must be wonderful !

  • Seems to me a long long time since anyone has emerged with

so much talent as Alison Krauss. I can't think who. Ideas?

  • Fantastic!

  • Yeah but is this really as good as some lof Lady Gagas stuff. OMG YES, this is what makes the world go round. God help the music industry.

  • If angels sing, this is what they must sound like. Amazing!!!

  • Wow.

The slowed tempo is very nice.

And Douglas sings like a bird. (Who knew?)

  • Win!!

  • this song, next to Hark the Sound, is the theme song of North Carolinians who love and support UNC. Go Heels.

  • Apparently two people listened without ears or speakers.

  • Allison's voice is so smooth-she is a treasure.

  • I would never get bored of hearing her sing. Simply beautiful.

  • wow

  • goosebumps

  • OMG....I love this song....Love James taylor a little better

  • What a beautiful interpretation of this work. It just holds your heart and carries you thru the story as if you are living the journey. Never seen a smoother, more touching rendition of this song excpet by Taylor. A lot of people try to capture the soul of his songs but I have only seen it done by these two on this title. WOW! I can listen to it over and over again and it is as fresh and stirring each time.

  • This goes out to My Pal Laine who lost The Love of Her Life recently.

    Prayers sent Baby non-stop.

    -stan

  • who the hell could dislike this. AMAZING!

  • Alison Krauss is an angel.

  • @loveandtheft21 definitely sounds like one

  • @loveandtheft21 Or a freaking mermaid, hypnotising!

  • Great!

  • fantastic rendition! Absolutely love this song!

  • WANKFEST?

  • I understand this is JT's favorite song and Allison does it so well.

  • let's not forget steve gadd! absolutely one of the greatest drummers living today.

  • Tthis has to be one of the most artistically pure renditions ever done.

  • im from carolina and this is just the way i feel when i look out my door and see them mtn... this is so right

  • @MrCarolinablues i am wanting to move to western nc as well. i want to get a little cabin on a creek with trout. what a beautiful state.!!

  • Allison sounds beautiful and Jerry Douglas is just as great.

  • Allison has the perfect voice.

  • wow...can't get any better than this. i want to go to carolina when i die

  • Wow Alison you're voice couldn't have sounded more perfect on this song. It's like Carolina On My Mind was written for you.....Love ya Alison! :-)

  • Superb!

  • Absolutely the voice of an angel

  • fantastic! such a perfect combo of song writing, singing and instrumentality, superb!

  • Allison Krauss, Jerry Douglas, and Steve Gadd on drums....it doesn't get much better !!!

  • Today is my Mom's birthday ... She passed away a little over two years ago in North Carolina ... and this song helps me dream of where I would like to be today ...

  • @pkw253 God bless you. My Mom is dying of cancer. Nothing can replace a Mother's love.

  • As much as I love James Taylor, this may be how the piece is supposed to sound...

  • @chuckyvee70 I'm with you on this one. First time I heard this version, it took my breath away.

  • Everybody can do this. Americans do it.

  • @jayicarus1 is racist

  • So sweet. So moving. So Carolina. Chills, inside and out.

  • I adore this song!

  • Amazing Jerry and Alison

  • Honey...you dress up real good!

  • Terrific voice, terrible violin, great Jerry Douglas slide (he seldom sings - nice job).

  • Alison Krauss and the Confederate Railroad: This is just about as good as it gets!

  • Tom6612 you miss the point completely. This is American roots music. Brazillians, Britts or Bosnians can't pull it off like this. It's not in the genes.

  • "This is American roots musics...Britts [sic] can't pull it off...it's not in the genes."

They can't? American roots music overwhelmingly comes from Americans of British descent, so if it's genetic then the British must have it. See the movie The Songcatcher for how many songs the people of Appalachia carried to the Americas straight from Britain, and were singing hundreds of years after their arrival here.

  • @BILLJALDEN

Indeed. I can hear traditional British and Irish folk in Country and Bluegrass. It really ain't so very different.

  • @58stratokevin Anybody who really cares about the music will be able to pull it off.

  • @58stratokevin

    Two words.....Albert Lee

  • @58stratokevin Mostly that's true but not entirely. How about Van Morrison even though he sings more in the soul/blues medium? There is a Japanese Salsa group which my Puerto Rican friend says is the real thing; just close your eyes. Some people can transcend where they are from & get into the heart of the music.

  • Lovely !!!!!!

    Alison has a fab voice.

  • Alison Krauss..ahhh.

  • An achingly pure voice coupled with the superb talents of Jerry Douglas make this one of the best clips on YouTube.

  • wow.. she should really release this... she is just breathless amazing...

  • >> beogradwill wrote - Only americans can do this sort of stuff. - You are delusional. I suggest you you look at Brazil if you want to know what a country with a real affinity for music and music education is.

  • hi tom ~ so it's Brazilian music the rest of the world craves? No. American music is what people all over the world want to hear. Travel a bit and you will see and hear that. I'm a fan of Brazilian music but the rest of the world must be as delusional as Americans, because this is the music the world listens to.

  • I don't know about the Brazil thing, and I am an American and a huge fan of American roots music, but I think you need to account for the glorious over-exposure of American media content before you start talking about what the world craves. There are McDonald's all over the world, too. No one is arguing that this is the greatest food on earth. And a lot of the American music out there is the spiritual euivalent of the McDonald's on the Champs-Elysee.

  • Good point taken.

  • If this came out again with Allison singing it, it would top the charts, no doubt

  • Fabulous performance!

  • I just came back home for some respite from hearing Jamie Foxx and Mr T'Pain or is it Mr Akon and some "song" about blaming it on something....Read a very nice response to my earlier post. about this video...THIS is just such beautiful music from someone who reminds me of my ex-wife- though we have both kinda moved on....Let's just all pray that Mr Akon doesn't decide to add his mellifluous auto-tuned Yo! Yos! and complicate matters....Love from.....Hong Kong

  • absolute class... bravo!!!

  • Only Americans can do this sort of stuff. When others try, it fails miserably. Sting was a joke. A people have their own sound and soul for certain kinds of music and that is perfectly clear.

  • I love it!!!!!Pure voice and perfect pitch!

  • Rapture! Jerry Sings!
