Jaroussky's voice is very beautiful, but his italian pronunciation is terrifying, and I find that the instrumental accompaniment in Villazon's version is more refined.
La voz de Jaroussky te lleva al corazón la música pura, casi intocada, digamos que etérea, mientras que Villazón canta con su corazón y es él quien nos habla. aquí la pasión está en Villazón y su interpretación...
I believe it's a matter of taste, if you are an avid Jaroussky fan, his voice suddenly hits you emotionally, but if you've only the first time hearing a tenor sing this song, Rolando Villazon's voice takes time to seap in. Love both versions though!
Let me enter a third singer for this "competition". I'm going to post a video response with Mária Zádori - this old record was my favourite version of this song B. J. (before Jaroussky).
Than you for posting this video! They also sing a different version of scherza infida, it's very interesting to compare them! ^^
I agree that they are not comparable, they have very different ways to sing and to bring up emotions. Oddly enough they are my two favourite singers at this time. I really Hope Rolando Villazon will recover of his surgery.
I ´m really interested, what will come as the next - maybe, you should compare von Otter with Quasthoff or Dessay with Pavarotti- it would be the same result: incomparable .
In this case you can´t compare the ravishing rare voice of PhJ with an ordinary good one of RV. Sorry.
@JaRoWi1647 the one, who has prejudices are you? who said that we should compare them to degrade the other one? you have to see it like a vase that is enlightened by 2 different rays of light...
Jaroussky sings in a headvoice, and Villazon uses his chestvoice. The first is a countertenor, the second a normal tenor. They cannot be compared.
Both good, though, in their own unique way. (But I prefer Jaroussky when it comes to this repertoire)

I listened to all 3 versions, PJ, RV, and MZ. Each has own beauty, but I feel I can listen to JP anytime and anywhere,

The main joke is that Jaroussky put most women opera singer to shame. He is mor original then women voices. For that Jaroussky is the sky and haven.

It was very interesting to hear both versions. This is the question of taste.
We can not compare them and nobody has to win. That is why life is not boring. One likes Villazón beter, and another likes Jaroussky beter like me.
Whatever he sings, his voice touches me immediately. What a beautiful music !
Anyway I hope that Villazón will recover from larynx surgery as soon as possible.

It was nice to hear Villazon, but Jaroussky feeds the soul.
They ARE incomparable.
Thank you for posting contrasts, though. The tension between the two mirrors the reality of life.

The wrong idea to compare incomparable. Two different voices and approaches.
Villazon creates incredible beautiful, very human expression. At the moment he does not have any competition in this music. Rolando forever..
