This is my drinking song, pour a couple glasses of scotch getting ready to go out. "So loooong, howa hate to see you go" UH my brother jimmy brown know how to get down.
Instantly made me think of "Forever suffering", from the Payback. Not everybody realizes how a great blues singer he was, no matter what were his flaws, no matter how he was in daily life, he was far from perfect - who is? - but damn he put everything he had when he sang, it is obvious that he put his soul into it.
I mean what can you say about the song and this dude..... JB..... Simply one of the best to ever to it..... Just a simple beat and he's freestyling..... Shit beats any rap any day
I was often said the Billie Holliday had a face that almost sounded as if it was another instrument that was in the band playing her part. I feel like James Brown is a lot the same, except he's a superinstrument designed specifically for soul. It's not just that he's funky and soulful, it's more the fit; just the right amount of funk and soul for a particular song. JB hits me deeper than any other artist, and I love him for it. Thank you Godfather.
"I gotta mention the fact that we got Mr. fred Thomas...from Washington Georgia on bass, we lookin for him to go home one day." This tune is sad soul.....SO LONG, THOU I HATE TO SEE YOU GO
Loved this when I first heard it as a kid. Love it now, nothings changed. Sorry I never got to personally meet JB. Although I've seen him in concert 7 times back in the day. Whew!!!!!
this is the shit didnt even know this version existed i love the Black Caesar version so much and i always wish it could go on a little longer so i finally started searching almost 10 years after i heard the song for the first time and found it here to my surprise and blessing im downloading the album now thanks and BIG UP for the post .
one comment for the Father??!? At least someone knows whats up. God Bless ya. May Jb's music help heal this world. So under-rated. A parody Saturday Night Live skit, they miss the whole point.
