  • LOLGASM

  • terrible ad - Coming out to a parent is one of the most life defining moments in a gay persons life, sometimes it goes well, sometime not so well. 'its going to be a long night' trivialises this story. And its insulting to 'clueless' Dad's aswell, cue a knowing look from your mother...

  • wrong? more like awesome.

  • If it was original, I might not have yawned without so much as a smile.

  • Don't get me wrong....but does the ad not lean towards burning "David" on the Bord na Mona Peat Briquettes.......

  • I love anal

  • *insert random hate speech here* actually, i just wanted to write th. Cute commercial

  • Why is the description "wrong"? Grow up.

  • obviouly the briquettes aren't that good when your man david needs to wear a scarf

  • A funny twist on the classic Irish parental "not under my roof" rule.

  • Hey Ian Douglas : Can you please remove the word "wrong" from your posting of this video? Then, those of us who like it can post it / share it, without the word "wrong" appearing beside it.

  • @SJM Hear hear

  • @iandouglas365... i just noticed you said in the description "wrong".. what exactly is wrong may i ask??

  • He's more flaming than the FIRE!! :)

  • @ Iandouglas365 - The only thing that's WRONG is yourself. You're just a bigot who can't accept difference.

  • @bacabu30 Well said!

  • So sweet <3

  • David and I, not david and me!!

  • @cantwellsam Nope. "David and Me" is absolutely correct. The direct object is required in this sentence. You wouldn't say "There is something I need to tell you about I", would you?

  • I wish she would just place the briquettes on gently, God damn it!

  • David is cute.

  • The only thing I'd object to is I prefer real wood in the fireplace.

Their mug collection seems to be similar to mine, no two match.

Other than that, the ad was well done. I liked it, and I've been a practicing gay man for over 40 years (one of these days I hope to get it right).

  • What the heck did the dad ask him? I can't understand him lol.

  • @marshal4him

He said, "We've made up the spare room for David."

  • People are who are offended by this ad who are just a bunch of drama queens trying to create controversy from thin air.

  • As a gay man I approve this message.

  • I thought it was politely amusing and seemed fairly realistic about modern day Ireland. The only thing I doubted was that he,d wait until his Da had set the tray down. Ahh the smell of an open fire and a burning briquette.

  • It's cute and respectful and it made me smile. The Irish are a more open minded lot and I think this is a great ad.

  • It's Bord Na Mona trying to monopolize the key gay-peat-briquette-burning demographic! Burning turf has an image of being very traditional/rural in Ireland so I see this as chucking onto the fire the De Valera image of "The Ireland That We Dreamed Of." I guess the mother is providing the part of "the laughter of happy maidens, whose firesides would be forums for the wisdom of serene old age."

  • They gonna have an orgy or something?

  • Well Done to Bord na Mona , this ad has made me start buying peat briquettes again

  • @Rubelicious That is what ads do.

  • Everyone, chill the fuck out. This is a funny advert so shut the fuck up and enjoy the smell of beautiful irish bogland pete.

  • Your comment makes me sick....

... Also, by the way... from your channel I see you are a fan of The Rubberbandits... who are huge supporters of gay rights and play in gay bars all the time. It's time to move on.... 10 percent of the population is gay... get over it because thankfully you are in a shrinking minority of people who think it's okay to make homophobic comments....I hope you see sense some day!

  • @DustyAndPistolPete I pity your simple mindedness. Oh wait, no, no, I don't.

  • @thecolemickens What's simple minded about it?I apologise if I don't think that a company trying to make money out of people who think that people being homosexual is akin to the March on Washington. But if you'd like to enlighten me I'm all ears.

  • Odd to work out, is it progressive and humanistic... or homophobic??? I think it is progressive on balance, it portrays a son coming out to his father in what seems to be a realistic and non negative way. If there is something wrong with recognizing this can be a difficult thing for a young gay man to do or a father to hear thinking all the while his son was straight, then yes it's homophobic. It's included this in a series of adds that deal with families chatting, having "quality time".

  • homophobic bastard

  • Fuck you, you homophobic cunt.

  • This is fucking hilarious

  • is it supposed to be funny or serious or what?? either way it seems slightly offensive

  • @solvedsign offensive to who?

  • @munkifisht it could seem offensive as the dad seems slightly taken aback. But I think this is something a young lad and his family would have to talk about and a father might quite well be surprised. It say's nothing negative about homosexuality. In fact as I say above it is in a series of adds with the same "quality time" idea... which is positive.

  • @solvedsign I was a bit unsure myself at first, but think it's positive and inclusive of the gay community in a very positive way that includes this "coming out" senario in a very natural way.

  • dad i dont liek that scarf at all

  • Brilliant said but unsaid

  • love it!!!

  • da,i was wonderin if you wana go in on a threeway hogroast with david and me?

  • There is nothing wrong with this ad but I doubt they are trying to notice the reality of LGBT issues.I think people should try and stop being so politically correct about selling a Briquette.

  • i think its a GREAT ADD finallie not making gayness out to be wrong !!

  • i dont get what the fuck is the correlation between being gay and brickettes...there's no structure to the add. and its not a gag, its just kind of offensive to everyone.

  • @Psykogundam What is the correlation between Star Wars and a VW Passat (I refer to another ad that is currently being played on Irish TV). There doesn't need to be a correlation - it's called advertising.

  • Has this add aired on TV yet? Great add.

  • As a friend of mine said, it's highly irresponsible to come out to your Dad when he has a tray full of hot tea in his hands.

  • Was this ad on TV also? I have not seen it and I am plonked in front of the tv all day !

  • "You see Da, me and David... Well, we're... members of an elite and top-secret organization whose mission is to monitor alien activity in Ireland. They call us the Lads in Black."

  • Love this advert!

  • We're vampires!!!!

  • @KanD0060 I could not get that out of my head

  • Well, if you're going to be coming out of the closet you may as well be warm!

  • A long night of praying the gay away? Or maybe they need to bring the sacrifice child to get the gay demons out. What? They forgot the sacrifice child? Oh dear....

  • That is so wrong. It should be David and I.

  • @KanD0060 Thank you.

  • @KanD0060 Marry me.

  • @KanD0060 wouldn't that sound a bit strange if "David" were left out of the sentence? "There's something I've been meaning to tell you about I."

In this case, I think "about me" may be more correct than "about I".

  • @KanD0060 I guessing that's a joke, but 'David and I' would be incorrect. It needs an objective pronoun.

  • @KanD0060 Nope, you're wrong. The simple test for phrases like this is to take out the other names. "There's something I need to tell you about I" doesn't make sense but "about me" does therefore in this instance the correct grammar is "and me".

  • @KanD0060 It's actually correct as it is as 'David and ME'. Amazing how so many people are wrong about this! Me is the object of the verb.

  • LOL long night and long chat LOL

  • Hahahaha...

  • Is this really still an issue with people? It's fucking 2011 for fuck's sake

  • AWKWARD!

  • Absolutely Notting wrong with this. Fair play to Bord na Mona for recognising the reality of LGBT issues in a positive way. Politicians of Ireland take note and catch up.

  • @carapart THIS is your 'issues'?No wonder nobody takes the gay lobby seriously.I think it's showing elderly people's issues, imagine your son telling you before u go to bed he's gonna be sleeping with his friend. They hang gays in Iran every week of the year, that's a problem.'Problems' that gays claim to have in this country are imaginary.Gay people's willingness to compare their push for legislation to the sufferings of black people,Catholics etc shows the depth of their self-obsession.

  • @DustyAndPistolPete You seem to suggest that because we don't execute gay people in Ireland as is done in some parts of the Middle East that we should accept our lot as second class citizens. I have known people to have committed suicide rather than have their parents suffer the so called shame of having a gay child. This is a problem here in Ireland. I urge you to educate your self on the issue at hand before you make further comment.

  • @carapart Well you should have guessed from my comment that I am educated on this issue,I just disagree with you.For instance, the high rate of suicide is not because you 'don't have rights'.What could the government give to gays that would stop them killing themselves?I never said there was no problems, but they are mostly in your own minds not others. The subculture of gays is something people are afraid to criticise, drug use and promiscuity are bad for your mental health.

  • @DustyAndPistolPete

"drug use and promiscuity are bad for your mental health."

Way to go for the stereotypes big guy. Shows you know so much about the issue.

  • @Yaho009 It's a bit more realistic than saying they're being persecuted which is that the person I was replying to was insinuating.

  • @DustyAndPistolPete

Not really. Beating down an argument using stereotypes only reinforces his argument.

  • @Yaho009 Is it not a stereotype that anyone who questions whether gays have it as bad as black people had it in the USA is persecuting them? The point brought up was about suicides.I said promiscuity because a study by Genre found 24% of gay men had more than 100 partners, many of those had more than 1000.Look up the 2001 American Public Health association report on gay promiscuity and drug use.Or sweep it under the rug and blame others for the lower life expectancy in the gay community.

  • @DustyAndPistolPete

Where in this conversation was I talking about black people? All I pointed out is your lack of debating skills. You need hard evidence when you make the statement, otherwise you sound like you're pulling information out of you're Santorum. You also need studies done by a peer-reviewed journal and not a gay magazine. That's like getting the latest science from Cosmo. You need evidence for gay life expectancy.

  • @Yaho009 I wasn't replying to you,I was replying to someone else about black people.American Public Health association not credible? The International Journal of Epidemiology had to EXCUSE a study they did about gay life expectancy as 'not being homophobic' even though it confirmed that life expectancy was 8 to 20 years less for gay men than straight.Half of all gay men aged 20 surveyed would not be expected to reach their 65th birthday. They had a life expectancy similar to those from 1871.

  • @DustyAndPistolPete

Ah, multi-quoting in one post then?

The problem remains. You need to provide the readers the source directly as you make the statement. Was this during the midst of the AIDs crisis, were of course the life expectancy was shorter, or later on? I was talking about Genre not the medical journal. Your also ignoring more recent studies that have shown decreasing transmission rates due to safer sex practices but increased prevalence due to to better survival.

  • @Yaho009 and the dying young part was about suicides which the original poster insinuated would be avoided by there being more ads like these, and which was apparently evidence that gays in Ireland have it as bad as gays in other countries(Iran etc.).I simply pointed out that that was a gross simplification of the situation.

  • @carapart Its everyone elses fault right?A person who kills themselves worrying about what their parents might say,how is that someone else's fault? What can anyone else possible do for them?Your'e not a second class citizen.Just because it is not easy to be gay does not make you some sort of slave. This is the point I was making, you pretend that you have it as bad as MLK,Daniel O'Connell et al and it's a plain lie.All of the problems you pointed out are EMOTIONAL,not constitutional.

  • @DustyAndPistolPete It is clear that you are not educated on the issue nor do you understand the concept of what education actually is (free independent thought based on informed information with out predigest including ones own predigest)

  • Perhaps Ian, you mean that the evening isn't going to be long, now that they've shared their relationship with their dad?

Otherwise I'm baffled by your remark.

  • i think he means how the dad is sorting out the tea and not the mother.

  • I concur, something wrong with you perhaps Ian Douglas?

  • I'm with Mr Chops - how the fck is this wrong? Do you not like briquettes or something?

  • How might I ask is this wrong?
