@43alley these videos are great, my favorite is the i am legend one. thank you for your work. would you recommend anybody else? because i still believe a lil XD.
No historical record of zombies walking around in Jerusalem in the 1st century afaik and this is one of the most written-about pieces of real estate in all history. Strange.
well actually if they were 100% exactly the same that would be very suspicious. however if the accounts slightly vary as they should coming from different people then that is actually more believable. If it was a lie or made up the author would want to be as consistent as he could. but this is not the case. Obviously the writers are speaking of their personal accounts.
@Gaaminator - you realize the "liar, lunatic or lord" trilema is incomplete and dishonest, don't you? I did a video on it callled "I Am Legend.". It's part 13 in this series. Watch and see why you shouldn't use that argument.
@Gaaminator How are you even able to get out of bed with the absurdity of what you just posted? Go do some research about the 'synoptic problem' ... and actually READ the damned Gospels. The ANONYMOUS authors (as the names Mathew Mark Luke John were given at a MUCH LATER date) do not claim to have been eyewitnesses.
@RationalArtist Anyone who knows anything about literature knows when someone is talking in first person. Obviously they claim to be eyewitnesses, the only way you could say otherwise is if you were blind or had no understanding of the English language. I have done plenty of studying the entire bible was put together only at around 200-300s AD which believe it or not isnt that late, and the original gospels could have been written much earlier it is only the earliest found copies that are newer.
@Gaaminator LOL!!!!!!!!! I am definitely worried you should see a professional ... nowhere in the Gospels does it talk about 'Then we went to Galilee' or 'Jesus left for *insert city here* , but Peter and I went off to spread the Gospel elsewhere' or 'while I was in *insert city here* , Jesus was performing miracles' or 'Then Jesus spoke to me such and such' ... You're either an idiot or a liar and that is not a false dichotomy.
It's not slightly. They completely contradict. And the person allowed error for small things like the setting/time (when he talks about the sun's position) and even the number of people. But it continues to contradict from there. And then people claim the bible is completely accurate, no contradictions. How does this work? We would need something similar. Such as "There were three women" "Mary and two of her companions" "Mary and some women" SOMETHING like that so it could work.
Ok to be fair "still dark" and "very early in the morning" arent contradictory. Having said that, yeah i'm an atheist but be fair in your critical assesment.
@timothymochley - right, but "as it began to dawn" and "while it was still dark" are contradictory. The point is not that all of the four contradict all the others on every thing, but that all the four rarely agree on a single fact at the same time.
@43alley "as it began to dawn" can still mean it's dark. Not that it matters much, there are dozens of other examples of definite contradictions between the gospels.
It's really not surprising that the minor details in the accounts of this event written by people who don't even claim to have witnessed it many years beforehand are different. Basically, someone found the tomb of Jesus empty. Maybe a necrophiliac had beaten them to it.
Christians believe the bible to be infallible because that's what they're told to believe. My one unfortunate attribute as a Christian was my unquenchable thirst for knowledge, and it's how I learned the truth about the bible. My other attributes suited Christianity just fine; I had a big, kind heart. I was gullible to a fault. I wasn't very bright. And I looked good in a suit and tie. But that one pesky attribute of questioning everything...well, that just doesn't mix with religious dogma.
Yahweh commits Filicide! Yet Christian praise him. Yahweh: I torture and murder my own son and sent him to heel for 3 days. Christian: I love you yahweh.
Religion proved wrong, right here. There is no super being or god, there never was. Everybody who is anybody is a complete whack job for believing in any religion. I'm an Atheist, and I believe we are the only true intelligent ones.
Due to the vast size of our universe (especially if the multiverse theory is correct), I think there are probably other beings out there (not gods, of course).
does anyone else find it pathetic that in this day in age with so much technology and knowledge, that people actually believe these ancient texts? It seems like we'd be smarter than this by now. In a few centuries from now people will be hearing stories about god like we hear stories about Zeus and Apollo today.
the funny thing about the empty tomb story comes from the gospel of mark, the earliest gospel.
i think it was written about 90 years after the death of jesus. the gospel simply ends with the women going to visit the tomb of jesus and finding the rock moved away and the tomb empty.
and the "extended ending" which was "miraculously" found centuries later by priests which added a resurrection story to the gospel of mark.
so really. the earliest gospel even has no real or original ressurection.
@ColdSparrowProd - exactly. And the things written by Paul (Acts and the various letters) which all predate the gospels don't go into that either. Which each decade and new gospel, Jesus gets more miracles and more super-powers. The Jesus in Mark is very different from the Jesus in Luke and Matthew. Very different.
The increase in power through these writings is exactly what one sees in legend formation.
@maxsalhab - You're right ... I must have typed that very quickly. See my video "I AM LEGEND" (/watch?v=XKAHoYCWXF8) to show you that I do know what I'm talking about with NT authorship and dating. But yeah, I must have been drunk or hit my head when I typed that comment you're referring to. Haha.
humans tend to think so much farther.. i can see God working through u ..God did not create u so u can go against him, he created u so U will realize who he is, then believe him and ask him for his help..for example to save the world from times of crisis, or to save someone dearest to u :]
The earliest known gospel was written around 40 years after jesus death. Before that the stories of jesus were passed down orally. Over the centuries there came to be many gospels (I believe far more than simply 4). As time passed the miracles which jesus performed became grander and grander. Simply put jesus was an odinary man who thought he was the son of god. There are many such cases in israel today (and some even believe them). The only differences between him and those lunatics
Roman emperor adopted Constantine I made a counsel (known as the council of Nicaea) to pick and choose which gospels were right; for political and religious reasons. Leaving many gospels out.
The new testiment is hardly the word of a non-existant god. Not even close.
Okay, how is "when it was yet dark" different from "very early in the morning?" The bible is certainly full of contradictions, but that's clearly not one. Hope this gets better...
@MaximusRelaximus - "When it was yet dark" does not contradict "very early in the morning" but it DOES contradict "as it began to dawn." Dawn signifies the first light of day. It can't still be "yet dark" if the first light is visible.
The point is not that each one contradicts every other one on each claim. The point is that the four cannot ALL agree at the same time.
But this part is small potatoes when you get to the important contradictions (the part I hoped "got better" for you).
@43alley -- You must see by now how silly this looks. Yes, it IS still dark in most of the sky & land when it begins to dawn. The point I want to make is that when one is obsessed with proving others wrong, that obsession shows. That obsession clouds people from being able to simply LOOK at data & observations so as to ascertain the IMPORTANT things like, WHAT IS TRUE, WHAT IS POSSIBLE & WHAT IS UNPROVEN. The first step to achieving true wisdom is knowing that one doesn't know.
@FreeThinkingBeing - you guys are the ones obsessed, you guys won't shut up about the "while it was dark/early in the morning" part. What about the all the other crap? Earthquakes, flying angels, two men in shiny garments vs. one man vs. two angels, etc. It's like you religious people watch to the first part, then turn it off.
If I showed you four stories of Mohammed being chosen by Allah as his prophet that contradicted this much, you would roll your eyes. Like I do to these stories.
@43alley -- No, your generalization of "you guys" is just another departure that prevents you from being able to ever examine what is true or not. Who are "you guys"?? Everyone is not the same 43alley, & not being able to distinguish is what keeps people ignorant. Back in the old old days, would you be one of the many that ridiculed the few that claimed the earth was round? The point is that this video and biases like yours are just pointless attacks that do not bring the world any wisdom.
..early in the morning.Which doesnt neccessarily mean that the sun is up yet. Therefore there is no contradiction.I think you are so desperate to prove there is no God that you see contradictions where there is none.
Well I am not one of those christians. To be fair they do all tell the same story of Jesus dieing and comming back from the dead.Everything else is totaly irrelevent. Also, the first contradiction wasnt a contradiction at all.Its entirely possible for four people to say"it was dawn""it was early in the morning""it was early in the morning""its was still dark"and all be looking up at the same sky.The light sais it only beginning to dawn,so it could have still been relatively dark. The others say it..
Exactly what are the inherent factors? All of them talking about women being the first ones? Or you are choosing to ignore the fact that there are multiple ways to harmonize the resurrection story. MULTIPLE. Ignorance must be bliss these days.
@charliesplinter i don't like being told i'm wrong? what exactly am i wrong about? the stories don't match up, period. but like i said, that's all semantics. if you can't show that the bible is in anyway significant, then who fucking cares?
The stories aren't expected to match up, that's why there's a big ACCORDING after the word "gospel" in each one of them but when they do match up then you're the first to scream plagiarism. Isn't that a fun fact? There are MULTIPLE ways to harmonize the resurrection. Multiple. That makes it far from becoming impossible. -_- If only you STUDIED the Bible instead of JUST READING it.
@charliesplinter if only you addressed my point. what good is reading or studying if it's a bunch of bullshit in the first place? can you provide me with any verifiable evidence that shows the bible wasn't just thought up by a bunch of middle eastern crack heads?
First of all, It's pretty obvious not one person could write it. Secondly, you're calling it bullshit without even studying it and then you claim to be intellectually honest? no sir.Thirdly, why don't you study it for yourself and stop depending on what others tell you?Fourth, It's not up to me to prove that it was indeed a conspiracy book, evidence is always positive not negative...so the stage is yours. What makes it so "suspicious?" :D
dude, research says that at least two gospels were most probably not written by firsthand witnesses. Some claim these are even mashups of the supposedly firsthand accounts. Then you have the modern New Testament is an arbitrary collection of books the Church decided were "canon" in the council of Nicea. The only honest way to harmonize the resurrection is to realize its made up bullshit. Evidence points to that. Heck you would even expect a perfect deity to relay a perfect book.
What research? Why so unspecific? Or is this one of those Bible writer conspiracy theories I don't know about. As far as I'm concerned you have nothing to prove that they were mashed up, you just say this to reassure yourself that you're right. Funny thing is when stories match up it's called plagiarism but when even a single word is added it's a contradiction. Why don't you just make up your mind?
I'm unspecific because comments can't go beyond 500 chars. Now, since you were bragging about "studying it" I thought you would know what I was talking about. You see, there are scholars who publish their serious research and leave it open for criticism. People like historians, mythographers, theologians and even anthropologists. Shit like the Synoptic problem. But whatever, you can remain ignorant and make up excuses every time logic and evidence threatens your little world.
What logic? What evidence? You can't site a single researcher? I've read a lot of criticism raised against the Gospels and most of them are argumentum ad ignorantiam, they either don't get it or don't want to get it. For example people see John 1 as a clear and blatant contradiction without reading on. I could also point out that the Bible says "There is no God" in Psalms 14:1 and present it as a contradiction since I like to quote mine and present false info.
@charliesplinter i've read the book, i've done all the research i can. that is why is am asking you. you seem so sure of yourself but i am already pretty positive it's bullshit. hence why i ask you to defend your position. problem is, there is no positive evidence for anything supernatural. i would say the magic makes it suspicious, because i am not 10 years old anymore.
You've done all the research? such wonderful claims yet you still make unprecedented claims. Exactly what am i supposed to defend? the fact that the gospels are meant to complement each other? That's pretty obvious, I knew that when I read it for the first time and going by your logic since John and Mark don't mention Jesus' birth then it didn't happen. See how awful that sort of approach is?
@charliesplinter yes, i have. why would i want to speak out against something i don't understand? i'm not a theist, remember. well you would have to work out with the other guys when and where jesus was born because they can't seem to agree on that either.
Considering that Matthew Mark Luke or John didn't witness this. They must have spoke to somebody who was there. Minor details contradict eachother. This doesn't disprove Jesus Christ or God existence. At the end of the day, we must accept Jesus, Follow God's commandments, Put God first in our live and live by faith. That will remain the same in every gospel.
@HeavenBound2323 Even if the situation you describe is true, that would make what they wrote hearsay. It would be like me saying "Jack told me that Bob is the murderer." There is a reason this sort of thing isn't valid in our legal system, and that is because with each retelling you get further from the truth. The Bible was written not by God, but by desert mystics over hundreds of years, and then finalized & compiled circa 200-300AD. What makes it more believable than fairytales?
@Dallo10 Are you unaware of the mass amounts of archaeololgy that proves the bible, we have found so much. We even have 12 non christian writtings about Jesus and even they said he performed miracles (although they didn't say it was from God) we have found nephilim giants, sodom and gommorah, Noah's ark, chariots wheels and horse bones in the red sea. Too much evidence to ignore.
@HeavenBound2323 archaeology DOES NOT prove the bible. it provides examples that biblebashers can say prove the bible is true, but archaeology can only provide clues, and is it not a science, most archaeological information is based on guess work, with any scientific analysis involved being subject to huge tolerances, making most of the info provided useless , unless your trying to prove the existence of a fairy story about a sun god
@HeavenBound2323 Circumstantial evidence that could have simpler explanations. Like the horse bones and chariot wheels which obviously could just have come from an Egyptian soldier drowning. Religionists keep twisting the evidence to fit their conclusion. No historical accounts talk of zombies rising from the dead and no Egyptian account exists of any exodus or battle with the Jews.
This is no basis for a belief or even a society. The idea of Jesus has taken on a monstrous life of its own.
Part 3: But at the same time, it doesn't mean that the bible has no valuable content or good ideas whatsoever, just because it was written by multiple people... are you really that ignorant? -.-"
Part 2: also, no one claims the bible was written by god himself or something like that and you are just as stupid as a fundy prick if you seriously think you're attacking or disproving anything. No one claims that the bible was written by god, it was written by multiple authors and it has been changing throughout the centuries, also the king james bible is not the original, it's a translation.
Part 1: oh great, another Atheist who thinks he's a also a theologist, stop it right there because you dont have the right to say anything about those scriptures as you seem to know nothing about it. Actually, you do have the right, but the content of your video becomes scientifically contentless. this is really a stubborn and ignorant way of looking for contradictions in the bible. Ofcourse the versions are different since we have 4 different authors which didnt even live at the same time...
wow.yeah I can see that. I have seen these and I wondered why it was like that. but you know I will be the first to admit that the gospels were not written by the original people but their followers. either way I don't think that the gospels completely contradicted each other to the extremes but rather to the minimum. but I'm totally not going to make any excuses for this I'm not trying to do that at all :P.
I just read the New York Times and the Herald. Different wording, different journalist, different plot line, different writing style, different viewpoint, same story!
@tommybme - No, we quote the Bible to show how unreliable it is. I like to quote it to show how the people call it the greatest book ever make that claim without even knowing what's in it.
The stories of Mat, Mark, Luke and John are accounts from men who were not present at the event and are telling the story based on second hand data. Is it true or not -- who knows? I personally doubt it actually matters. But Atheism is just another "religion" (a faith in fact) trying to prove it is right by putting other religions down. Atheism is NOT science nor logic as shown by this video.
@FreeThinkingBeing - How can you choose such a user name and then make the claim that atheism is "just another religion?" You seem to be suggesting that you are an atheist (whether you accept the label or not).
Atheism is the term given one who does not believe in a deity. I wish the term didn't exist. But it does, and it's descriptive.
If you're suggesting that criticism of religion IS a religion, then you can extend that classification to movie critics and literary experts on Beowulf, etc.
@BadBlueBoy213 youre "cool" for calling him an idiot...He just means if u look at it thats sorta the first impression you get from the name...shit..i cant stand lil punk bitches that think theyre doing something by jus calling others "dumb" or "idiots" on these kind of videos.
@iekenta03 this whole video has no relevant content whatsoever, if you want to understand what i mean, read my other comment... that's why i'm kinda pissed at him.
@43alley Part 1: What an idiotic analogy you made, (the beowulf thing) your pseudo-intellectual statements really start to annoy me, also i can't believe there are people who give you thumbs up. All he wanted to say is this: Instead of being atheistic and declare obeself as non-believing, you go around insulting people who do believe in transcendental beings.
@43alley Part2: This is NOT the spirit of atheism, the only atheist you would get support from is Dawkins who is heavily criticed by Atheistic philosophers. He's an evolutionary biologist and should keep out of philosophical debates because his arguments are sometimes just as shallow as the ones you hear from idiot-christians. You are cleary an Antitheist who doesn't respect the beliefs of others, therefor you're indeed insulting and disrespecting.
@43alley Part3: I once heard someone countering his argument like this: "Let's say there's a group of people collecting stamps, which is a hobby. What you're saying is basically that not collecting stamps is also a hobby, which is wrong." What at first seems like a good argument, becomes an idiotic one after considering that you're not just "not collecting", you're going around and insulting those who do. Respond to all those things I wrote or else, you lose all your credibility and esteem.
@BadBlueBoy213 - I don't have that much esteem. But I guess all my credibility is now gone then because I have no interest in responding to you when you sound like you're just itching for a fight (calling me an "pseudo-intellectual," an "idiot" and "stupid," etc).
If you're still interested, distill what you want to talk about down to a single topic or two. Then we can go through the rest.
@43alley I actually brought up some good points that have yet to be answered, you can't just reduce the things i said to only insults. I wanted to start a discussion which indeed is a fight, a verbal one though. PM's are good, but an msn adress would be nice too. Respond if you're interested.
@BadBlueBoy213 - You can stop any favorite-heavyweight conversation by saying Fedor, but it's too cliché now. I liked Frank Mir back before UFC 100 (I met him before, he's extremely intelligent, or at least it seemed to me at the time), but I grew indifferent to the whole division after that. Overeem is fun to watch.
@43alley very true about fedor... i like Mir too because he beat Lesnar once, i went crazy wen Lesnar submitted. Also, i like Cro Cop very much, although he's not that good anymore. As a martial artist though, you can learn A LOT by watching his other fights, what do you think about him?
@BadBlueBoy213 - Very seasoned. I also like that he was in the special forces in Croatia. But I like most that he doesn't plaster his ass and shorts with advertisements like everyone else. He fights in nondescript attire. You know it's about the fight and not the money when they do that.
@43alley - Atheism is defined as "the belief that God does not exist" or "the doctrine that there is no diety". "BELIEF" is the key word. It actually takes a leap of faith to make such a claim when one really cannot prove it.
I consider myself a scientist where one must admit to unknowns until one obtains observations and empirical evidence either way.
Atheism is not the same as criticizing a religion. Atheism is actually a belief.
@Elitest2 -- I am sure there is not a scientist in the world that would ever say definitively that there cannot exist or have ever existed a hoofed horselike animal with a single horn. You don't have to "believe" or "not believe" in unicorns. What is weird is for people to get irate and jump around insisting that "Unicorns do NOT exist! They have never existed!", and even give themselves a name like the "anti-unicornists".
@FreeThinkingBeing Oh "I consider myself a scientist where one must admit to unknowns until one obtains observations and empirical evidence either way." Your toilet comes to life when everyone in the house is asleep and there is no physical attempt to observe it coming to life. Believe that then you brain noob
@Elitest2 -- I never even stated what I personally believe. I just pointed out that the points made in this video & some people here, are ridiculous, too obviously biased, & stinks of religious fanaticism. That you have to resort to insults is just a testament to the illogical pattern. It is this biased, "make others wrong" insistence that prevents understanding, whether the source is religious or otherwise. It's the same element of "religion" that so many "Atheists" criticize.
@Elitest2 Actually, I quoted New Oxford American Dictionary: "the theory or belief that God does not exist." It is true that different Athiests define "Atheism" differently. The subtle difference is actually large. "Lack of belief" is quite understandable. I could say I lack belief. But Atheism becomes BELIEF & perhaps fanatical belief when one seeks to PROVE one is RIGHT and others wrong in that God, gods or supernatural all encompassing forces, etc. do NOT exist. That takes faith & conviction.
The simple truth is: we don't know what happened that caused those people to write those accounts in that bible. We don't know what happens when we die. Hell, we don't even know what causes gravity & most diseases. There is so much we have no knowledge of as a species. And the only way to begin to know is TO KNOW THAT WE DON"T KNOW & stop fighting others' beliefs with one's own unproven beliefs (like Atheism). But instead consider possibilities, probabilities & observable truths.
@FreeThinkingBeing I can understand what you're saying except for the definition. It states "God", so I'm assuming they think that there is only one or at least took the time to mention only one. With this mistake, we can assume the definition is wrong. "A - theism" without belief of a god or gods. Maybe I'm wrong. Also, when you ask someone to prove something, that doesn't necessarily make you believer in the opposing ideal. Maybe they just want proof, so the ideal can disappear under scrutiny
@Elitest2 Yes I agree with you. There is more than one valid definition of "atheism". And yes it is totally possible to ask for proof without a vested interest either way. The only problem occurs when one has a fixed idea that it can only be one way & then shuts themselves off from observation & also begins to attack others. I personally see contradictory elements in the bible but I think some of the complaints in this vid just reveal a slanted agenda, which discredits it as an infantile attack.
@43alley - It is interesting to witness Atheism's adherents that become quite fanatical in damning other's beliefs. It actually sounds quite similar to some other "religions" that act similarly ...
I don't believe in the Bible which is a composition of man-made stories. But I insist on ACTUAL logic and reason - the author of this "comparison" study is obviously slanted & illogical. The first 2 points are not contradictions 1) the morning can be before it becomes light - people commonly refer to waking in the morning at 5am when it is not light out; 2) stating Mary was present does not exclude that other people could be present. The other "contradictory" points are not worth much either.
@FreeThinkingBeing - The morning verses are contradictory because Mark says "As it began to dawn" which signifies weak daylight. Two are neutral, but the fourth says "While it was still dark." It's not that important of a contradiction, but it is one nonetheless.
And the others are not worth much? Who was in the tomb? Two men? One boy? Two angels?
This is claimed to be the most important event in the history of Man. These differing accounts should surely interest a free thinking being.
Yes, I'm sure these people's testimony would hold up in court. I could just imagine the witnesses being cross examined, not agreeing on who's there, the time, day, or what they saw. Yeah!
I just wanted to say that I love your work. I am currently writing a journal, about all the contradictory, absurd, ridiculous, and blatantly immoral concepts, laws and events in the bible. So, I must admit that I have stolen more than a few ideas from your videos. You make things so clear. I don't know if you're still doing this, but if you are, keep up the good work! You videos are very educational.
Matthew and Mark speak of ONE angel while Luke & John speak of TWO. Contradiction? NOTE: Matthew & Mark do not say that there was ONLY ONE angel (a TRUE contradiction to John & Luke's TWO) but that one angel spoke to the women. Under legal rules of evidence & the Law of Non-contraction, these aren't contradictions. "The Law of Non-contradiction," which is the basis of all logical reasoning, maintains that something cannot be "a" and "non-a" at the same time. This law is not broken.
Doesnt 'Gospel' mean the word of god!? I wish he'd get his story straight! Could someone tell me is god supposedly telling each of these writers a different version of the same event, OR are the writers themselves all claiming they witnessed the events OR are these writers reporting the story from other eyewitnesses? Were any of these writers even contemporary with jesus' time??
There will be day when Christianity will be tought just like all other mythologies -- Greek, Roman, etc. We should do as much as we can to bring these days closer.
i just figured out how to argue against christianity to a christian. seen as they are unmoved by evidence and so convinced by hearsay. stop giving them evidence and just tell them that, a person told another person god doesnt exist and a few hundred years later another person wrote about what he was told another person told another person.
Around the 2nd Century there were LOTS of gospels floating around, many much more contradictory than these four. It was not 'God' who inspired the four gospels, men like Bishop Eraneous were successful in promoting their interpretation of Christianity & so chose the four gospels that were closest to what they wanted to hear as 'scripture' & declared the rest as heresy. There is much evidence of additions, omissions & 'tweaks' to try & get them to conform a bit more closely, too.
@lobitopp Good stuff in this video. Awareness is increasing, and the better the human race will be when we all realize that religion is based on lies. You also didn't seem to answer 43alley, when he asked you to explain the "main point" of the gospels to him.
I just want to see if you have an argument. Don't get angry, this is youtube. You aren't getting challenged face to face- yet this is a place that we can ALL learn things together.
"..you don't understand the main point of the gospels"
Please explain to me as well. Certainly accurate eyewitness testimony is important, no? It's the least we could ask for. Yet, these accounts are not even written by those men who were with Jesus, but based on oral tradition.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Where are the fucking contradictions you are talking about? You failed lamentably, man. I see no significant contradiction here. A story can be told in a thousand different ways.
@Kongodiantotela - No contradiction?? Are you serious? The rock being removed for instance was seen by a) 1 woman b) 2 women c) 3 women d) 5+ women, or e) the correct and most laughable answer, "all of the above."
"A story can be told a thousand different ways" Ver y wise words, i couldn't agree more. But if "chinese whispers" are the reason they all disagree with each others statements, which one do you take as the truth. One thing is for certain. This story contradicts itself in each 4 cases.
If the four gospels told the same exact story, only one would be included.
I see the Bible as inspired by God but written by people... people who each had their own experiences and views... and people who wrote to specific audiences. The stories are not meant to all be taken at face value... rather the collective story they share- of a loving God who redeems his people and calls them to care for and love one another- is what's of importance.
I agree with you, though these videos are humorous and I do think God has a sense of humor, I think that God is great and I love him and worship him and agree with what you said.
@philhunter2005 ur correct the begining is not a contradiciton... i dont know what alley43 was thinking on that one... yet the other verses he shows that there are CLEARLY contradictions. Jesus is an allagory.... there were over 20 gospels written... the allegory is to teach you knowledge of self...
God is within YOU. Jesus meditated for 40 days... the importance of meditation and prayer till ultimate enlightment.
There are still some contradictions in the bible but not on this subject. I think the earlier versions of the bible were translated incorrectly. But it does show you that bibles are fallible in areas and should not be taken literally.
they fix things all the time, by fix i mean take out things that are way too ridiculous even for the bible. there were many books that didn't even make it into the bible which had fun stuff like sun revolves around earth
Oh its says that word for word Just Face it the Bible is Total Bullshit made up by humans and written by humans because if it were written by the will of god you would think that god word would be perfect and not over run each other if it was god it would have been all the same and all perfect but god is not really he just like Santa
religious people are fools

well actually if they were 100% exactly the same that would be very suspicious. however if the accounts slightly vary as they should coming from different people then that is actually more believable. If it was a lie or made up the author would want to be as consistent as he could. but this is not the case. Obviously the writers are speaking of their personal accounts.

@43alley Of course, or otherwise copies of the original eye witness. That is the entire point.
either these people are lying, somehow insane, or telling the truth. make your decision.

@Gaaminator - you realize the "liar, lunatic or lord" trilema is incomplete and dishonest, don't you? I did a video on it callled "I Am Legend.". It's part 13 in this series. Watch and see why you shouldn't use that argument.
43alley 1 year ago 4
@Gaaminator How are you even able to get out of bed with the absurdity of what you just posted? Go do some research about the 'synoptic problem' ... and actually READ the damned Gospels. The ANONYMOUS authors (as the names Mathew Mark Luke John were given at a MUCH LATER date) do not claim to have been eyewitnesses.
RationalArtist 7 months ago
@RationalArtist Anyone who knows anything about literature knows when someone is talking in first person. Obviously they claim to be eyewitnesses, the only way you could say otherwise is if you were blind or had no understanding of the English language. I have done plenty of studying the entire bible was put together only at around 200-300s AD which believe it or not isnt that late, and the original gospels could have been written much earlier it is only the earliest found copies that are newer.
Gaaminator 7 months ago
@Gaaminator LOL!!!!!!!!! I am definitely worried you should see a professional ... nowhere in the Gospels does it talk about 'Then we went to Galilee' or 'Jesus left for *insert city here* , but Peter and I went off to spread the Gospel elsewhere' or 'while I was in *insert city here* , Jesus was performing miracles' or 'Then Jesus spoke to me such and such' ... You're either an idiot or a liar and that is not a false dichotomy.
RationalArtist 7 months ago
It's not slightly. They completely contradict. And the person allowed error for small things like the setting/time (when he talks about the sun's position) and even the number of people. But it continues to contradict from there. And then people claim the bible is completely accurate, no contradictions. How does this work? We would need something similar. Such as "There were three women" "Mary and two of her companions" "Mary and some women" SOMETHING like that so it could work.
darkchibicosmos 2 months ago
Ok to be fair "still dark" and "very early in the morning" arent contradictory. Having said that, yeah i'm an atheist but be fair in your critical assesment.
timothymochley 1 year ago 4
@timothymochley - right, but "as it began to dawn" and "while it was still dark" are contradictory. The point is not that all of the four contradict all the others on every thing, but that all the four rarely agree on a single fact at the same time.

But that one pesky attribute of questioning everything...well, that just doesn't mix with religious dogma.

the funny thing about the empty tomb story comes from the gospel of mark, the earliest gospel.
i think it was written about 90 years after the death of jesus. the gospel simply ends with the women going to visit the tomb of jesus and finding the rock moved away and the tomb empty.
and the "extended ending" which was "miraculously" found centuries later by priests which added a resurrection story to the gospel of mark.
so really. the earliest gospel even has no real or original ressurection.
ColdSparrowProd 1 year ago
@ColdSparrowProd - exactly. And the things written by Paul (Acts and the various letters) which all predate the gospels don't go into that either. Which each decade and new gospel, Jesus gets more miracles and more super-powers. The Jesus in Mark is very different from the Jesus in Luke and Matthew. Very different.
The increase in power through these writings is exactly what one sees in legend formation.

Part 1:
The earliest known gospel was written around 40 years after jesus death. Before that the stories of jesus were passed down orally. Over the centuries there came to be many gospels (I believe far more than simply 4). As time passed the miracles which jesus performed became grander and grander. Simply put jesus was an odinary man who thought he was the son of god. There are many such cases in israel today (and some even believe them). The only differences between him and those lunatics
DearestyouXII 1 year ago
@DearestyouXII
Was that he preformed miracles.
Part 2:
Roman emperor adopted Constantine I made a counsel (known as the council of Nicaea) to pick and choose which gospels were right; for political and religious reasons. Leaving many gospels out.
The new testiment is hardly the word of a non-existant god. Not even close.
DearestyouXII 1 year ago
Okay, how is "when it was yet dark" different from "very early in the morning?" The bible is certainly full of contradictions, but that's clearly not one. Hope this gets better...
MaximusRelaximus 1 year ago
@MaximusRelaximus - "When it was yet dark" does not contradict "very early in the morning" but it DOES contradict "as it began to dawn." Dawn signifies the first light of day. It can't still be "yet dark" if the first light is visible.
The point is not that each one contradicts every other one on each claim. The point is that the four cannot ALL agree at the same time.
But this part is small potatoes when you get to the important contradictions (the part I hoped "got better" for you).
43alley 1 year ago 3
@43alley -- You must see by now how silly this looks. Yes, it IS still dark in most of the sky & land when it begins to dawn. The point I want to make is that when one is obsessed with proving others wrong, that obsession shows. That obsession clouds people from being able to simply LOOK at data & observations so as to ascertain the IMPORTANT things like, WHAT IS TRUE, WHAT IS POSSIBLE & WHAT IS UNPROVEN. The first step to achieving true wisdom is knowing that one doesn't know.
FreeThinkingBeing 1 year ago
@FreeThinkingBeing - you guys are the ones obsessed, you guys won't shut up about the "while it was dark/early in the morning" part. What about the all the other crap? Earthquakes, flying angels, two men in shiny garments vs. one man vs. two angels, etc. It's like you religious people watch to the first part, then turn it off.
If I showed you four stories of Mohammed being chosen by Allah as his prophet that contradicted this much, you would roll your eyes. Like I do to these stories.
43alley 1 year ago 14
@43alley -- No, your generalization of "you guys" is just another departure that prevents you from being able to ever examine what is true or not. Who are "you guys"?? Everyone is not the same 43alley, & not being able to distinguish is what keeps people ignorant.

Not that it matters theologically, but the time of day isn't even a contradiction. "early in the morning" "as it began to dawn" "when it was yet dark"
All those things sound like about 5 AM before sunrise.
The second one isn't a contradiction. All the accounts can be true if all the women listed went. None of them say: "and no one else".
The Matthew account does not tell us if the women arrived on the scene in time to see the soldiers get scared away.

And I am retarded because of what? The fact that all the stories can be pieced together or that you don't like being told when you're wrong.
charliesplinter 1 year ago
@charliesplinter i don't like being told i'm wrong? what exactly am i wrong about? the stories don't match up, period. but like i said, that's all semantics. if you can't show that the bible is in anyway significant, then who fucking cares?
holdenbane 1 year ago
@holdenbane
-_- If only you STUDIED the Bible instead of JUST READING it.
charliesplinter 1 year ago
@charliesplinter if only you addressed my point. what good is reading or studying if it's a bunch of bullshit in the first place? can you provide me with any verifiable evidence that shows the bible wasn't just thought up by a bunch of middle eastern crack heads?
holdenbane 1 year ago
@holdenbane
What makes it so "suspicious?" :D
charliesplinter 1 year ago
@charliesplinter
dude, research says that at least two gospels were most probably not written by firsthand witnesses. Heck you would even expect a perfect deity to relay a perfect book.
tychoSNM 1 year ago
@tychoSNM
Why don't you just make up your mind?
charliesplinter 1 year ago
@charliesplinter
But whatever, you can remain ignorant and make up excuses every time logic and evidence threatens your little world.
tychoSNM 1 year ago
@tychoSNM
What logic? What evidence? You can't site a single researcher? I've read a lot of criticism raised against the Gospels and most of them are argumentum ad ignorantiam, they either don't get it or don't want to get it. For example people see John 1 as a clear and blatant contradiction without reading on. I could also point out that the Bible says "There is no God" in Psalms 14:1 and present it as a contradiction since I like to quote mine and present false info.
charliesplinter 1 year ago
@charliesplinter i've read the book, i've done all the research i can. that is why is am asking you. you seem so sure of yourself but i am already pretty positive it's bullshit. hence why i ask you to defend your position. problem is, there is no positive evidence for anything supernatural. i would say the magic makes it suspicious, because i am not 10 years old anymore.
holdenbane 1 year ago
@holdenbane
See how awful that sort of approach is?
charliesplinter 1 year ago
@charliesplinter yes, i have. why would i want to speak out against something i don't understand? i'm not a theist, remember. well you would have to work out with the other guys when and where jesus was born because they can't seem to agree on that either.
holdenbane 1 year ago
@holdenbane
They all agree as to the where actually. Don't know where you've been cooking up your facts from.
charliesplinter 1 year ago
Considering that Matthew Mark Luke or John didn't witness this. They must have spoke to somebody who was there. Minor details contradict eachother. This doesn't disprove Jesus Christ or God existence. At the end of the day, we must accept Jesus, Follow God's commandments, Put God first in our live and live by faith. That will remain the same in every gospel.
HeavenBound2323 1 year ago
@HeavenBound2323 Even if the situation you describe is true, that would make what they wrote hearsay. It would be like me saying "Jack told me that Bob is the murderer." There is a reason this sort of thing isn't valid in our legal system, and that is because with each retelling you get further from the truth. The Bible was written not by God, but by desert mystics over hundreds of years, and then finalized & compiled circa 200-300AD. What makes it more believable than fairytales?
Dallo10 1 year ago
@Dallo10 Are you unaware of the mass amounts of archaeololgy that proves the bible, we have found so much. We even have 12 non christian writtings about Jesus and even they said he performed miracles (although they didn't say it was from God) we have found nephilim giants, sodom and gommorah, Noah's ark, chariots wheels and horse bones in the red sea. Too much evidence to ignore.
HeavenBound2323 1 year ago
@HeavenBound2323 archaeology DOES NOT prove the bible. it provides examples that biblebashers can say prove the bible is true, but archaeology can only provide clues, and is it not a science, most archaeological information is based on guess work, with any scientific analysis involved being subject to huge tolerances, making most of the info provided useless , unless your trying to prove the existence of a fairy story about a sun god
autofive 1 year ago
@HeavenBound2323 Circumstantial evidence that could have simpler explanations. Like the horse bones and chariot wheels which obviously could just have come from an Egyptian soldier drowning. Religionists keep twisting the evidence to fit their conclusion. No historical accounts talk of zombies rising from the dead and no Egyptian account exists of any exodus or battle with the Jews.
This is no basis for a belief or even a society. The idea of Jesus has taken on a monstrous life of its own.

Part 2: also, no one claims the bible was written by god himself or something like that and you are just as stupid as a fundy prick if you seriously think you're attacking or disproving anything. wow.yeah I can see that.
FreeThinkingBeing 1 year ago
@FreeThinkingBeing - How can you choose such a user name and then make the claim that atheism is "just another religion?" You seem to be suggesting that you are an atheist (whether you accept the label or not).
Atheism is the term given one who does not believe in a deity. I wish the term didn't exist. But it does, and it's descriptive.
If you're suggesting that criticism of religion IS a religion, then you can extend that classification to movie critics and literary experts on Beowulf, etc.

BadBlueBoy213 1 year ago
@43alley Part2: This is NOT the spirit of atheism, the only atheist you would get support from is Dawkins who is heavily criticed by Atheistic philosophers. He's an evolutionary biologist and should keep out of philosophical debates because his arguments are sometimes just as shallow as the ones you hear from idiot-christians. You are cleary an Antitheist who doesn't respect the beliefs of others, therefor you're indeed insulting and disrespecting.
BadBlueBoy213 1 year ago
@43alley Part3: I once heard someone countering his argument like this: "Let's say there's a group of people collecting stamps, which is a hobby. BadBlueBoy213 1 year ago

43alley 1 year ago
@43alley and by the way, i didn't directly call you a pseudo-intellectual, just some statements you brought up.
BadBlueBoy213 1 year ago
@43alley - Atheism is defined as "the belief that God does not exist" or "the doctrine that there is no diety". "BELIEF" is the key word. It actually takes a leap of faith to make such a claim when one really cannot prove it.
I consider myself a scientist where one must admit to unknowns until one obtains observations and empirical evidence either way.
Atheism is not the same as criticizing a religion. Atheism is actually a belief.
FreeThinkingBeing 1 year ago

@Elitest2 -- I am sure there is not a scientist in the world that would ever say definitively that there cannot exist or have ever existed a hoofed horselike animal with a single horn. You don't have to "believe" or "not believe" in unicorns. What is weird is for people to get irate and jump around insisting that "Unicorns do NOT exist! They have never existed!", and even give themselves a name like the "anti-unicornists".
FreeThinkingBeing 11 months ago

FreeThinkingBeing 11 months ago

Elitest2 11 months ago
@Elitest2 Yes I agree with you. There is more than one valid definition of "atheism". And yes it is totally possible to ask for proof without a vested interest either way. The only problem occurs when one has a fixed idea that it can only be one way & then shuts themselves off from observation & also begins to attack others. I personally see contradictory elements in the bible but I think some of the complaints in this vid just reveal a slanted agenda, which discredits it as an infantile attack.
FreeThinkingBeing 11 months ago
@43alley - It is interesting to witness Atheism's adherents that become quite fanatical in damning other's beliefs. It actually sounds quite similar to some other "religions" that act similarly ...
FreeThinkingBeing 1 year ago
I don't believe in the Bible which is a composition of man-made stories. But I insist on ACTUAL logic and reason - the author of this "comparison" study is obviously slanted & illogical. The first 2 points are not contradictions 1) the morning can be before it becomes light - people commonly refer to waking in the morning at 5am when it is not light out; 2) stating Mary was present does not exclude that other people could be present. The other "contradictory" points are not worth much either.
FreeThinkingBeing 1 year ago

Yeah!

Hello, I'm an atheist.

"Is it too much to ask that the only recorded accounts we have of this crucial event agree with each other?"
Yes it is too much.
"Christians base their entire religion on the belief that Jesus died on the cross and was resurrected."
Actually, good Christians base their belief on The Holy Ghost telling them that it's True (The Spirit)
The one's that base it on the scriptures infallibility are just obstinate....kind of like those who mock those trying to do their best at life....

There will be day when Christianity will be tought just like all other mythologies -- Greek, Roman, etc. We should do as much as we can to bring these days closer.
Dwinetz 1 year ago 6
i just figured out how to argue against christianity to a christian. seen as they are unmoved by evidence and so convinced by hearsay. stop giving them evidence and just tell them that, a person told another person god doesnt exist and a few hundred years later another person wrote about what he was told another person told another person.

Where are the fucking contradictions you are talking about? You failed lamentably, man. I see no significant contradiction here. A story can be told in a thousand different ways.

Who was in the tomb when the rock was rolled away?
43alley 1 year ago 4
@Kongodiantotela wrong.
ForemanErik 1 year ago 3
@Kongodiantotela - No contradiction?? Are you serious? The rock being removed for instance was seen by a) 1 woman b) 2 women c) 3 women d) 5+ women, or e) the correct and most laughable answer, "all of the above."
"A story can be told a thousand different ways" Ver y wise words, i couldn't agree more. But if "chinese whispers" are the reason they all disagree with each others statements, which one do you take as the truth. One thing is for certain. This story contradicts itself in each 4 cases.
Hardysamnin 1 year ago 2
If the four gospels told the same exact story, only one would be included.
I see the Bible as inspired by God but written by people... people who each had their own experiences and views... and people who wrote to specific audiences. The stories are not meant to all be taken at face value... rather the collective story they share- of a loving God who redeems his people and calls them to care for and love one another- is what's of importance.

I agree with you, though these videos are humorous and I do think God has a sense of humor, I think that God is great and I love him and worship him and agree with what you said.

Im an athesit. The New International Version (NIV) has no contradictions. They all comply with being
-After the sabbath
-First Day of the week
-At Dawn
Is there a chance they may have retranslated it correctly, giving that they had more experienced translators?
philhunter2005 1 year ago
