I do find this show funny, but sometimes Gervais and Merchant seem to nitpick Karl. I mean, sometimes Karl has an interesting idea, but he just can't explain himself very well, so Gervais and Merchant jump on that to make him look an idiot. I guess I find it a hard to watch because of that. I don't find what Karl is thinking all that ludicrous, just how he says it. Plus, I forget things all the time so to nitpick someone because they can't, on the spot, remember a bit of trivia seems a harsh.

This leaves what for Merchant to write? Concepts, basically. Stuff to pitch to Pilkington. "Karl, why don't you tell us exactly how babies are made?" Stuff like that.

Or putting him in arranged awkward situations. Easy stuff.

@cameronperks1 I agree. I think a big part of it is discovering. I wanted to get in to Chemistry but one turn off was the realization that I'd just be doing standard work. Sure I could do my own little experiments, but it'd mostly be either a) finding a more efficient way to to/make something or b)copying what's been done.

Still kind of regret it when i watch nurdrage videos though heh

@mcgoo721 you could certainly get in to research but like all scientific fields (at least here in Australia) it is very difficult to find funding for projects, and to keep up with writing papers for your university.. Chemistry is very broad and if you can come up with another area to couple this with there are many things left undiscovered... Earth sciences/environment/industria­l applications etc.. anyway if you stopped before your phd you're right, not too exciting

@cameronperks1 That's a very good point. Bit too late for me, but maybe some one else won't get deterred heh. It also didn't help our counselors were terrible in school. They asked us what classes we enjoyed the most, and let's say I said science. "you could be a science teacher! Or just join the military." It was always "You can teach X subject, or join the military."

Go in asking for a specific career you already know? And they're clueless. No idea on local schools, or even how to go about it

@mcgoo721 thats a shame, but in saying that one of my best university lecturers (also a researcher) was an abattoir worker until he decided to go to uni in his thirties to study geoscience! now travels all around the world doing what he loves.. not always too late :P
