Thank you for posting this. I love the version that Ozzie and Harriet sang too. I didn't know Ricky covered it until just now. I listen to a lot of Ricky Nelson. I covered a few of his songs and posted them to my youtube. A lot of people even say I sound like him.

In 1958, Nelson fell in love with fifteen-year-old Oklahoman Lorrie Collins, a country singer appearing on a weekly telecast out of Compton, California, called Town Hall Party. The two wrote the song "My Gal" together, and she introduced him to Johnny Cash and Tex Ritter. Collins appeared in an Ozzie and Harriet episode as Ricky's girlfriend and sang "Just Because" with him in the musical finale. They went steady and discussed marriage, but their parents discouraged the idea.

According to Google this episode was first shown on January 22, 1958. I can remember her as part of the "Collins Kids" with her younger brother, Larry.

Actually, though, Ricky's youngest son, Sam, has darker hair, as does daughter Tracy.

But Ricky's wife, Kris Harmon Nelson, was pretty too, her father (Tom) a legendary college football coach, and brother Mark a famous actor.
