  • Many years ago I worked as a deckhand on two different tugboats. Both had 12V149 naturals. I used to sleep eight feet away, on the other side of a steel bulkhead, from that engine, on one of those boats. Sometimes I wore earplugs! Brings back good memories actually, thanks for posting!

  • Its funny how small those turbos look compared to the engine

  • @sackcheck It's not about size of them, it's because there is 4 turbo! other V12, 4 stroke like cummins have 2 turbo only a little bit bigger! they usually produce between 23 and 28 PSI of boost, they have to be reliable!

  • 12 V 71?

  • would that fit in my old 4020?

  • Thanks sick! Wish the camera could handle the sound, but you got to hear engines like this in person.

    Whats she going in?

  • This old girl was out of a 150ton dresser Dump truck . I did this engine a couple of years ago. The video was one in my collection filmed back when the camera i had wasn't the best so i'm sorry the sound ain't to good but there isn't enough video's on you tube showing these majestic old 149 series GM/Detroits so hope you enjoy !

  • @Danbar21 Oh no worries man. The vid is great and I really appreciate it!! Even the very best camera can not give the whole experience of a big diesel engines sound and vibrations, especially not a 2-stroke Detroit Diesel!!

Love these 149 series juggernauts! Whats the build date on this engine if its not to much trouble? How many hours on her?

Wish there were more of these around still. Great vid!
