"..with legs and, stuff." I was about to laugh and ended up coughing on my computer screen, very funny. Cool that IKEA has a bus, is it only for transport to their store or is it just advertisement?
Hi, I hope you enjoyed your time in Monzen Nakacho, I had one of the larger apartments (B101) a couple of years ago, I also had the "crickets" (to be honest I think they were roaches (>,<) as mine made no noise at all). I was in Tokyo again this year staying in Megome this time (south west Tokyo, again Sakura House), a much larger and nicer apartment but cost a lot more. I didn't get to see Ikea while there but it's an interesting concept on mixing Swedish and Japanese style :)
There's no way i could choose!! The cities are very different. Shanghai is cheap as hell, and tokyo the opposite. But i actually think you would have more fun in Tokyo!
You should of brought a fork!! and I don't know if anyone told you but, that is a Japanese roach-cricket.. you went all the way to Japan to shop at IKEA and eat Swedish meatballs...lol
it took her 1 HOUR to get out! She was mad. and then they were all you have to go through the check out lines and she was all "But I dont even have anything to buy!" and they were all "so..." and she saw a pathway out and she was all "can I just go that way?" and they were all "No you have to go through the line!" and she was all "Watch me!" and she went out. Theyre NUTS! she said no one should really try to go there for a week or two!
lol a real one...with like..leggs!lol.Thats krazy! They just opened a IKEA like 2 days ago here in UTAH(USA).Its nuts. This girl I know was super excited for it&yesterday she went to just look cause she knew it would be too crazy to actually buy anything yet&she took her 1 year old lil boy&they had to stand in line to get in&then when they were in they were like stuffed in&she said they wouldnt let her out the in doors cause they "had a route"&so she had to wait&wait&wait to get out.
I applaud you (and are extremely jealous I might add) for making these vids. I always dreamed of going to Japan one day. Which part are you staying in if I may ask?. I know Tokyo is a MASSIVE city.
It was cool you showed the IKEA, I work in one in England and get excited(yeah I'm sad) every time I see another one lol.
Have a good time in Japan.Really....after all that history...don't you think they could have done better than two little sticks?Just kidding, I know how much you love chopsticks.
so you don't waste time in tourist traps and crap stores like ikea. i am sure it will be easy for a caucasian blond, becaue the japanese suffer badly from low self esteem and white worshipping. many white men get everyhing paid for by the local girls and literally jump from one girl's bed to another on a daily basis, getting room and board for free. I am not saying u should go that far, but just letting u know the possibilities.
I am pretty sure that was a roach, unless it was some weird sort of Japanese cricket. And they have Ikeas in America too. Mostly up north I think. I went to one when I was a kid. Actually, we still have a desk from there. It must be fifteen years old by now.
I'm afraid it's not cricket, but a cockroach...X( (Unless it's making the right sound.) Crickets' season's autumn, and they are tiny. I'm japanese and the picture made me almost jump! I'd kill it. Be careful, they fly. And is the pillow really made of rice? not beans?? Never heard of rice pillow...
That Ikea looks eerily similar to the Ikea that's right by my house, except for the signage text, and the bus is twice as big as mine. And how come I don't get a little Swedish flag with my meatballs???
Your pillow was made out of rice? Was it a brown rice pillow? Because brown rice is supposed to be better for you. Of course rice gets dry without sauce, and no one wants to sleep in the sauce. You didn't say what you bought at IKEA. You didn't go there just to eat, did you? When I go to IKEA, I always order the same thing: Swedish meatballs and a coffee table.
IKEA rocks. Many are the lost weekends I ahve spent there, searching for missing children and disconnected grandmothers. Everything in Japan is small. The people, the houses, the public parks. Except their generosity. That's frighteningly HUGE!
ooh, I'm so envious of all your adventures! But it's so interesting to see where you are visiting! We always get Swedish meatballs when we go to Ikea, nobody makes them better! I thought Japanese sticks were pointy, so I thought they would be easier because you can just stab your food (yeh-I don't think I'd look very elegant trying to use any kind of chopsticks lol!)
lol, pet cricket. Is his name Jiminy? Aw you are one lucky girl to be in Tokyo. I hope you have a wonderful time. Sigh Eemma the world traveler. You really need to open a paypal account so we can help donate.
Oh poor thing, you sound exhausted. I know the jet lag in that direction can be a real crusher, but looks like you slept it off pretty well.
I fancy myself quite the traveler, too, but I admit am jealous of your funds that allow to visit places like Shanghai and Tokyo (one of the most expensive places on the globe). I'm looking forward to lots of cool footage of Tokyo and wherever else you'll go in Japan.
i hope you have a great trip. hopefully you won't have to spend too much time in the small space. get out and enjoy the beauty of Tokyo. maybe find some cool neon.

Rice pillows, hope you ate the rice before replacing them! Great to see you checking in, and look foward to more vid's from you in tokyo!! :D

Oh goodness... I am SO jealous! I've always wanted to visit Japan. -I'd really like to go to Okinawa though, simply because of the pineapple park. Hehe! :)

I have a two dollar ikea rat stuffed toy. I think it's called "ratta"? It's not as interesting as your little cricket friend.

IKEA rules the world.
That must be a horrible jet lag you have, looking so tired. Anyway, enjoy your stay. :)

It's weird how the IKEA in Tokyo is so much bigger? Especially since land is so expensive there.
AmateurAstronaut 4 years ago
I guess it's bigger cause Japan has a waaay higher population than Sweden. I wonder if they sell the same stuff as in Sweden/Europe.
gembay 4 years ago
True, but IKEA is swedish. Yepp, they had the same stuff!

I had crickets once! They are kind of cute when they hop around but it's disconcerting to not have them in a cage... And they can be VERY loud.
