I LOVE this one. I don't know why they got rid of it. The story behind the act is a little sad though. The man is the puppeteer and the girl is a puppet of his that comes to life. He falls in love with her, but every time the act is over, the puppet goes back to sleep and forgets everything that happened. It's supposedly based on the ballet of Petrushka.
Still, such a beautiful act. I am SO glad I got the DVD with this act still on it.
I read that Tatiana fractured her hip in an accident and left the show. Oleg (the guy) switched over to Corteo until he left that show in 2009. Both no longer work for Cirque or with each other. Random fact, but Oleg and Tatiana also worked together in Quidam's original banquine act before they went to Varekai. If you watch their performance in the Quidam DVD, you'll notice similar acrobatic moves between that act and this one because Oleg was the one who created this act for Varekai.
As I was watching this for the first time I thought of So You Think You Can Dance, and what came to mind was that while I love that show to pieces, they can only WISH they can do this stuff. Just amazing! She seems boneless, weightless, but still has the reassuring solidity of a human body. I can't imagine the strength he has to hold her up by just one hand. Beautiful!
8 years after this act was choreographed, themed & put on display in the world's greatest example of its kind, this act still dazzles me with its inventiveness, its technical difficulty & its nod to simple romantic grace.
This couple are moving their bodies around each other in almost every way it is possible to interface with the human body shape!
This is one of my favorite acts. Cirque du Soleil sure knows how to take your breathe away. The music and acts are so well done and beautfiul. Even some of the clowns are funny. <3
Its really sad that they eliminated this from Varekai. I loved it when I first saw it.

@100DiddlySquatxx They were both in Banquine in Quidam; if you notice they use a lot of the same moves. He was a porter.
