  • PROUD TO BE PINOY

  • FILIPINO PRIDE. Makes me feel great people still care about us

  • MULTO! Check out the ghost at 6:15

  • Hoy @nenabunena at JUNENFIONA, tigilan nya na yang balitaktakan nyo.

  • Back-up replacement to the national anthem?

  • Thanks to whoever did this. Although some of you can't speak the Filipino language, you sure represent the spirit of the Filipino warrior blood. The Maharlika blood.

  • thank God I'm Pinoy foreals...

  • this is boring........especially badoy nyahaha,

  • just wanted to thank you guys for addressing the light skin obsession thing...this mentality unfortunately is in many nations that was invaded/ colonized by spain...(not bashing spaniards...it is what it is). i have a mexican co worker who is very much into the white is right mentality...she gave birth to twins. one dark skin/ the other light skin. she has admitted that she loves her light skin baby more/ that she is ashamed of the darker skinned child. this crap goes on within famililes!

  • Damn. I've been teaching myself how to speak Tagalog so it's whatevers. I just want to know how I can download this song to play on my college radio station. So if any member of Deep Foundation sees this, hit me with the track, both original and remix, papichurro4life@yahoo.com

I want to play more Pinoy MC's on my show. We're all talented in many ways, and I want to help expose that. If anyone else wants to shoot me their tracks, either edited or not (I edit tracks on Garage Band), hit me.

  • PROUD!

  • LOL why do pinoy try to indentify with black culture Pinas aint hood its just poor. Even worse you show the gutter in the pinas there and give people the idea no where there is nice. Inggit lang kayo sa mga mestizong pinoy LOL I shouldn't even bother half of you dudes full blood pinoy but you can't even speak tagalog. Pinoy is a nationality doesn't matter your ethnic, pagmestizo pinoy parin pag puro indio ang dugo pinoy pa rin.

  • @JUNENFIONA hindi ko get ung pag rrant mo. :) if you dont have anything good to say then keep your mouth shut nalang. learn to appreciate bro.

  • @JUNENFIONA How do you equate identifying with hip hop ("black culture") w/ being "hood". It's an element of hip hop, but it doesn't stop there. Furthermore, one doesn't need to be "hood" to identify with hip hop. Do you need to British to appreciate Radio Head?

Secondly, the places shown in the video were taken from where I spent the first 10 years of my life (Negros Occidental). Would it be more authentic to go to Alabang or someplace for the sake of showing an affluent side of the country?

  • @JUNENFIONA I admit, I don't know tagalog. I do know how to speak ilonggo but never retained the limited tagalog classed that I took before move to NYC. How does that make us any less Pinoy or any less proud of our culture & heritage?

You miss the point of the whole mestizo thing. We aren't putting down mestizo's but we are pointing out the obsession that people have to look white. We address the colonized mentality -- It's not anti mestizo or anti white.

but yea, thanks for watching our vid

  • @illpoetik I guess I got a little flusterd with some of the lyrics in the song, so I will try to explain better para mas klaro ang point ko. It's really a matter of perspective, I am mestizo and born in Pinas and raised there when I was young till certain age and from my experience there people aren't worried about whether you are full blood(malayu-polynesian-indigineous mix) or if you are mixed with western or chinese blood. It's not about that to me and I think to most pinoy sa pinas.

  • @JUNENFIONA i understand that but you also have to consider that you're coming from a place of privilege. Everything looks peaceful from far above. You've always been a welcomed sight in the eyes of our people back home, so to you, there is no problem. But when you look at the fact that people strive to be white/light skinned (whitening soap/creme, glutathione etc), there's a problem. That's what we are addressing. The lyrics, if you really listen to it, do not bash mestizos, but the mentality.

  • @illpoetik I will recognize talent for what it is I don't care if you are maputi or kayumange. I hope your future songs have a broader range of topics.

  • @illpoetik

Known this song for a while and always loved it. You being Ilonggo (that assumption comes from you being able to speak the language) makes things a lil cooler. Relate to a lot of the lyrics.

  • @RaynardAlcampor Thanks, Raynard. Yeah, I'm from Negros Occidental (Bacolod/Bago City). Most of the footage we have from the Philippines were taken in various parts of Negros Occ.

  • @illpoetik i understand ur point here but just fyi, this is actually a problem throughout asia, not just the phils. it's a problem in india, china, malaysia, even korea, it's a problem everywhere. in prehispanic phils, aside from the itas who were a diff grp of people. the native pinoys were not concerned w/ color of males but w/ women it was already a culture. darker females were associated to be lower social status bec they worked in the sun, lighter girls worked indoors.

  • besides, i believe not many filipinos are really that dark, they're just naturally tan & like many olive-skinned people, tan very very easily to dark brown. notice how much lighter filams, middle class people who work indoors compared to the tricycle drivers, farmers, fishermen, kargadors, etc. when studying skin pattern, scientists check the inner arm/thigh as the base original color, not the sun-burnt color of the face or arm. look how dark people were in the past compared to now

  • @JUNENFIONA clarification lang ha? we don't have polynesian ancestry, it's the polynesians who probably have indonesian ancestry, not the other way around. also malay's have a strong daic component which filipinos lack, except for mindanao or certain areas in visayas cguro.& by indigenous, do you mean ita? or just austronesian? bec our people have only been in the phils for about 5kyrs, the itas have been there for 40-50kyrs & there's limited ita in the austronesian filipino.

  • @nenabunena Very interesting a self proclaimed anthropologist sa youtube......Kahit anong sabihin mo in regard sa mga psuedo knowledge mo I stand by my statement. If you take a trip to malaysia and look at most of those "malay" they look almost indistinguishable to the average pinoy walking around Manila.

  • @JUNENFIONA wth is ur problem? i never self-proclaimed 2 b an anthropologist, i merely read & am aware of austronesian culture. we would not have polynesian genes since it was asians who went to polynesia & mixed with the melanesians, it's the other way around. & i don't think u know enough about filipinos, u do know that the phils is made up of various ethnic grps, tagalog is closer to formosan, bornean & javanese languages than malay actually. u certainly have issues, seek help bye

  • @nenabunena Bro unlike you I am from the philippines, paki alam ko sa lahe mo kahit 100% pinoy ang dugo mo (whatever that is).

  • @JUNENFIONA new year na new year naghahanap ka ng away. bored ka ba sa buhay mo that you don't have enough problems that you purposely have to look for trouble? saan ka ba nannggaling? iniwanan ka ba ng pamilya mo ngayong holiday season? seriously, relax, seek help, you have major issues pal. & btw, i never said malay were diff from filipinos, you also have reading comprehension issues.

  • @nenabunena you are boring bruv really. I wonder how long it took you to google translate that tagalog.

  • @JUNENFIONA troll ka talaga. lahat dito hinahanapan mo ng away, wala ka cguro magawa sa buhay mo. pahiya ka lang kc you put your foot in your mouth, sigh. you trolls are everywhere nowadays, sad. i doubt you're a real filipino from the philippines. in the phils. we have value culture, breeding at hindi pagbabastos, lalo na pagtagalog ka. guys this person is a faker, not a filipino & definitely not a tagalogl, i suggest you block & report this person & don't bother with their ranting

  • @nenabunena Pag gusto mo add mo ako sa Skype :) you can see my passport dyan :) Kompleto place of birth and all! So you think lahat ng mga tao sa pinas ay mabait at may "culture"? hahaha Toinks!! Sigurado wala kang alam sa inner city life sa Manila. Dynamic at modern ang manila may good and bad TOINKS

  • @illpoetik well said! u guys are impressive!

  • @illpoetik i agree with the obsession of the mestizo, but we have to depict filipino culture as filipino, not ghetto of black culture becaus ethat's no different than wanting to be a wasp. also if we were not christianized, we would've been islamized & as austronesians our base culture is very matriarchal which conflicts greatly with islam. i prefer to be christian rather than be a muslim, especially as a girl. & speaking any form of filipino language, including ilonggo is filipino.

  • the other poster probably meant, filams who don't even speak a single filipino language, not necessarily tagalog.

  • @nenabunena by the way, I did rap in ilonggo in another song we did. Please search "A Place Called Home" by Deep Foundation. It took me months to write 8 lines in ilonggo and truthfully, I'm just not that good of a rapper in ilonggo haha.

  • @illpoetik tnx illpoetik, i will look for "A Place Called Home" though i don't understand ilonggo. pls don't misunderstand. i know your intent is pure & sincere & despite what i have posted, this is actually a good song, & i don't even listen to rap/hihop.

  • @nenabunena Thank you. I don't mind having this sort of exchange and I don't disagree with everything you said. I just wanted to clarify our intent and also defend a culture (hip hop) that we all understand and love.

  • btw, if you can help spread the word, i would like to recommend william henry scott's book called 'barangay' (amazon). He's an anthropologist who did serious work on filipino culture, it will enlighten many filipinos on what prehispanic filipino culture was like. to be truly proud of who we are, REAL PINOY PRIDE comes from knowing who your people really were. There's a lot of misinformation there about filipino culture & people & this is 1 of the best books that sheds light on it.

  • @nenabunena thank you! I really appreciate that and I'll make sure to buy his book.

  • @nenabunena I understand how some people will agree w/ you, but our intent was not to depict hip hop as filipino culture, but rather use a medium that we feel would best express our message. In this case, as hip hop artists, we did it by way of a rap song and in english. Unfortunately, I don't have the same command of the ilonggo dialect as I do with the english language, so my choice was to write in english because it would have more of an impact, rather than use broken ilonggo.

  • @nenabunena I just think that the adverse reaction to us using hip hop is because it is of black culture. I highly doubt that we'd have the same criticisms if this was a rock or pop song.

When we approached Heber Bartolome about sampling his song, we were clear that our intent was to share the message of his original song (which is a FOLK ROCK song) with the younger generation using a more "contemporary" genre in hip hop. Our song is not the end-all-be-all of our culture and cultural pride.

  • @illpoetik maybe bec hiphop is associated with the ghetto of blacks, the criminal negative element side. whereas r&b, soul, rock, rock & roll, & swing represent a far wider poetic & not limited to violence of black culture; & these are all black culture too mind you. besides, african chants & drums imo represents a much more higher spiritual plane of black culture. also pop comes from black culture as well, almost all popular for of music is from black culture actually.

  • @nenabunena but where do you draw the line? to you it represents a criminal negative element, yet this song & countless other hip hop songs prove the contrary. You can't take part of a culture and use that as a blanket perception. If that is the case, then we would permit people to have negative things to say about our culture/people/country.

If the video showed us waving guns, hurting innocent people, etc., I'd understand. Again, I think this is proof of the contrary.

  • @illpoetik but it's just 1 form of song in the myriad of black contributions to music & the arts. & i guess it's not merely the hiphop element but also the culture that is very different from filipino culture. maybe that's why people notice it more than other black expressions (soul, r&b, rock, rock&roll, pop) which can be quite nsynch with traditional pinoy culture. wasn't there a famous black comedian who was lamenting the diffs between r&b soul vs hiphop/rap?

  • @nenabunena If this song instilled a deeper sense of Filipino pride to a fil-am or made him/her look into our culture/history some more, then we are proud that it did.

A painter can express his/her pride via a painting. Pacquiao can do it by fighting on behalf of our country. An author can write a book or short stories. In our case, as hip hop artists, we did it through a hip hop song.

  • @illpoetik i just hope that it will instill a positive & truthful pride in being filipino. we have to be careful bec many filams in trying to claim filipino pride also claim they are either hispanic or pacific islanders. both are wrong & negative aspects. we are asian, just bec the media depics north east asians as the only asians, doesn't mean we who are close to se asia asians should deny out own culture & people, due to foreign misinterpretation.

  • Thank God I'm Filipina (:

  • like 4:33

  • Any Luck in finding an ILOCANO mc that you can future in your next song? or someone in the video is ILOCANO already? BTW any thoughts of colabing with some filipino Hip Hop artists in Hawaii?

  • @FloSick808 CeeJay, the last emcee, is Ilocano. We're always open to working and building with our people.

  • As a Puerto Rican Nationalist, committed to the struggle of my country's independence, I want to say this song is AMAZING! Everything you guys say can be applied to my own island. PR and PI share a common history with a common oppressors since before 1898 and after. Big love to y'all and all the Filipino people.

  • @mirelalle I really don't think you would talk all this shit in person haha

  • @jazzzyxjay Yeah, I might get attacked by yellow midgets..

  • Comment removed

  • @mirellale There are tall and short people of all races lol. And you for one have issues, therefore I have no need to waste anymore time on the ignorant like you. Your an idiot. Bye

  • @mirellale another one of these guys....-_-

u really hate how many battles pacquiao won. tryna find proof that he sucks and all that..........

  • @awesomepeople100 lol. funny how non of u have said 1 single thing to be proud of... Manny has won many fights. Also lost a lot of fights, got kod and scored draws and split desicions.

  • @mirellale 1. he lost three times, had 2 draws, and won 50.

    2. im proud of my heritage and proud that lapu lapu stood up for what he is and took out magellan. there. is it bad to be proud of what you are?

  • @awesomepeople100 what do u know about filipinos ur kinda ************* .....

  • @MrHxCme what do i know about filipinos? i am filipino...

  • @awesomepeople100 ooppppssss sorry wrong comment heheh ...

  • @MrHxCme oh lol.

  • @awesomepeople100 That's right bitch

  • Dope track, especially the last verse. My great grandfather is of Spanish heritage, and I grew up with the idea of being light skinned with a sharp nose was a blessing. However, as I got older I knew that wasn't the case, and this song proves it.

Deep Foundation, Bambu, Kiwi, Geologic, and other Pinoy Emcee's out there keep this real. My bay area Pinoy posse and I will be looking forward to more of your tracks in the near future.

  • I got excited when I heard this on Donaire's background music against Montiel

  • great lyrical flow BUT the line on capitalism at 1:33 is a line of victimhood. pride of your roots are great but to mock the u.s. like its an evil thing doesn't make sense to me.

you fail your parents when you talk negatively of this country and carry yourself like a thug. y'all are being hypocrites. if the u.s. is really your enemy then get the hell out.

  • What there to be proud of in the philippines??? The ghetto, powerty or the rise??? lol..

  • @mirellale

If you want to be effective in capping another culture, first learn how to spell properly. Ignoramuses who type on youtube are as dangerous as crappy drivers who get the free pass from sorry ass DMV instructors.

As far as the Philippines is concerned, being a third world country that has produced artists, singers, athletes, professors, and the like. Btw, the youngest person to ever graduate from Harvard Law was Kiwi Alejandro Camara, a full blooded Pinoy.

  • @Jayvizespana A young lawyer.. How amazing.. Just breath taking... Out of 90 000 000 of u guys, one actually becomes larger than life, a young lawyer... Marvelous...

  • @mirellale

Your ignorance goes beyond the boundaries of this continent.

  • taga bacolod city ang mga to..alam ko mga place sa vid nato..taga bacolod din ako.

  • Lapu-Lapu is a Tausug as evident to him paying tributaries to the Sultan of Sulu. A lot of Cebuanos refuse to believe this because Lapu-Lapu is considered a great hero there and is "Cebu's Pride" when reality is he is a Tausug.

  • @simion11 .. We just consider him as a hero of the Island

we don't claim that he is one of the bisayan people

  • Hey you guys are awesome. This music video makes me reminiscent of my day's when i was in the Philippine. HOOAH!

  • sounds like francis m.'s

  • nice song

  • @julzpogi17 thank you.

  • @illpoetik before Spain came, we were already a proud and civilized people, there were several kingdoms/sultanates in the Philippines, trading with our neighbors in S.E. Asian, China, India, Arabs.

like the kingdom of Tondo, of Maynila and Namayan, the rajahnates of Butuan and Cebu, confederate of Madyaas, country of Mai, Sultanates of Sulu and Maguindanao, Ifugao and Mangyan societies.

Google: history of the Philippines classical states or visit ayala museum website, evidences are there.

  • sa sulu pala si lapu lapu..kala ko cebu .

  • @parengelbiz there are people who believe he worked with the sultan of sulu and represented them. that's what i was referring to when i said that line.

  • @dencio888 u act like ur opinion matters that much that it warrants us to want to impress u. Heber Bartolome not only loves our song, but he invited us to his home to record that scene of the video. if he didnt approve of it, he wouldn'\t have given us permission to use the sample. we didnt even pay him. He let us use the sample for free because he appreciated what we were doing w/ the song

So let's review: Should I value the opinion of an immature, closed minded person or Heber Bartolome? yup.

  • @dencio888 I'll forgive you your ignorance this once- but Heber actually gave Deep Foundation clearance on the sample. Moreover- the clip of him at the end was filmed by iLL Poetik when they visited Heber in his home and got to know the man and his ideals.

    Conversation over.

  • Hey illpuwet ic: u still a clown bro and why not reply on my 1st comment?! coz u know im right lol

  • @dencio888 ur 1st comment revealed your close mindedness. there's no need to entertain that because trying to reason w/ someone like u is pointless. you'll talk in circles, call us names & it will be a waste of time. if u want real dialogue, message me and we can talk more about it. but if your only intention was to make us "look bad", then i don't need to address it.

your second comment was one accusing us of something that was both inaccurate & baseless, so I felt the need to clarify.

  • idea copied from one of BAMBUS VID smh lol gaya gaya major major GAY!

  • @dencio888 lol. what video is that? and you do know that bam is our homey right? go watch his "Quit" video & look who he's with. he was even supposed to be on the remix but didn't have time to record coz he was finishing his "exact change" album. you can even youtube a performance we did in London WITH bambu doing his Children of the Sun verse.

this is what happens when u let your insecurities get the best of you. you make baseless conclusions that end up making you look like an idiot. congrats

  • I love being Filipino.

  • man.

    i love being Filipino

  • BAKET NANGGAGAYA MERON NAMAN TAYO?! MGA HINDOT WHY RAP IN ENGLISH AND WHY DRESS LIKE AMERICAN RAPPERS? • These guys know their history! You basically redeemed rap from the dirt. The lyrics is genius and obviously well thought. To abstract the filipino identity, culture and history to a 7 minute rap song is phenomenal. Keep it up guys!

Plus, I think they are great guys to hang out with. They are more Filipino than most young adults I know living in the country.

  • This shit slap HarD!! Filipino blooded on mine mayn!! Frisco YaY area with Filipino blood of my roots, my people, our food, our tradition, my country, my ancestor's runnin strong through my veins and pumpin non-stop hardness. True Warrior Revolutionists bruh, true soldiers, we die hard!!
