Just had some flooding in my area, My basement flooded a little bit. I had to dump a bunch of stinking waterlogged crap/garbage/chinese/Walmart junk and it got me thinking how we go through so much material without giving any thought to the enviromental consequences.
I hate people, they take a beautifull planet and turn it into a giant Walmart/junyard/garbage dump.
Excellent, 5 stars! This kind of building is certain to get very popular in the next decade or two. I imagine we'll see some of the old construction retrofitted with an outer wall of this straw bale material so as to make it possible to keep it heated in the winter. All you need is a south facing wall and some big windows and you'll get that solar heat. Then in the summer the outer walls will resist the afternoon sun and stay cool.
It's a shame that too few people have the skills or know how to do this type of construction. Post peak-oil, folks will not be able to run down to Rona or Home Depot for their building supplies - they'll have to make due with what's local. People like Kay will very much be in demand. As for the home, combine that with a masonary oven or rocket stove and efficient heating is taken care of.
Kris - I hope we see more videos like this! Thanks again.
Great job! Way more entertaining than the construction crews I'm used to. Would love to know the general location of the home.
