One thing I've realized about this video is that it doesn't show anything scary or dangerous. If everything really and truly is holy, it seems to me that the scary and dangerous things would be just as miraculous as anything that's peaceful.
After coming out of my coma, I had so much difficulty explaining to people my vision / experience while in that state. Thank you Peter for putting both words and music to that experience. Thank you Connie for meeting beauty with beauty. Don't know which came first, tears or smiles, but both were a blessing today. Namaste.
I saw this video once during a very interesting presentation at my UU church. It's SO COOL TO FIND IT ON YOUTUBE! I wanna learn the song now, so I'll be coming back here several times.
Very nice, soothing video. It would seem to me that if "everything" is holy then that would include hurricanes, earthquakes, crocodiles attacking and devouring zebras, etc. Maybe you should include those kind of photos to show that "holy" doesn't always mean nice and pleasant to humans.
This is a lovely song and a lovely video. My only critique is that while Mayer sings that everything is holy now, with the exception of one scene with a child's face, the video shows us only pristine nature scenes with no trace of humans or even animals in them. If we truly believe that everything is holy, wouldn't that include humanity? If we can only view earth as holy when there is no trace of humanity, what does that say for our place in this world?
@shaktinah -- great comment! Peter Mayer himself has mentioned that to me, as I am the videographer and most of the photographs (except for 1) are entirely ones I have taken myself. I would say, however, that evolutionary psychology makes us rivetted to human and animal faces, and my primary aim was to choose photographs that would not get in the way of the primary focus being on the audio and the text of lyrics. Evolution has preferenced the visual in us, so we must honor the audio.
@ghostsofevolution Also of course if you're gonna mention evolution, humanity has only played a very small part in the grand scheme of the evolutionary process, so in a way it makes sense that humanity would play a small part in the video.
@shaktinah I think the lack of focus on human nature aids to the video, to be honest. People take nature for granted as something that's just there, something that was put here on this earth as "scenery," but what Peter Mayer is saying is that there's nothing second-rate about it. There's nothing here he takes for granted. Looking at it from the eyes of a human in the solitude of the beauty of nature, what better way to show the holiness of the earth than by giving us a view of its serenity?
@merancapeman I am constantly, hyper alert for all inclusive, generalizations like 'most people" or "everyone is always..." . These statements seem to me to almost always be a projection of deep felt beliefs that the speaker is assuming must be shared by others. Listen for them. They are everywhere. Try to catch yourself making them. Ask yourself how it is that you can so confidently speak for the other eight billion people that we share the planet with.
@donaldnewmanmedone I don't think I recall ever saying that. In fact, there's an "I think" and a "people." I think perhaps you need to ask yourself what purpose there is for being negative about it. I believe - and take note that it is my idea to believe - that the beauty of earth is a great backdrop for this song. There may be a great many other aspects, but the pristine serenity of nature on its own is ample clarification for the message Peter Mayer is giving us.
Loved this! Have been a fan of Peter for two-three years now. HIs music and lyrics bring me such joy and hope! Adding the video was a wonderful idea! Great job!

Awesome song. Weird to see it paired with this strange web site, though.

Marvelous combination of song and images - thank you, Peter and Connie!
I'd love a video just for contemplation/meditation, without the captions, with lyrics in the description only.

This is one of the most touching, "tell my story" songs that has ever been written. I appreciate it being put to words.
