this was the first song I really tried to learn to play when I was 15...i see I wasn't the only one!!^ good on you mate, and you do Geddy justice. I'm sure if he saw this, he'd be proud of you!
Thanks man, I appreciate that...yeah I learned this when I was 15 too. Of course my recollection was that I played it much better then, probably because I had 8 hours a day to practice. :)
I have to say I just went through the torture of watching about 10 poeple flub their way through this and you were the only one worth listening to. Simply awesome. I hope you're making good money with whatever band you're in.
You rock hard, dude! Impeccable rhythm, and you look like you get very absorbed into the music and that is what counts most!! ;D
One very small thing... it's probably the audio of the video, but your string bends in the beginning are just a smidgen above the perfect (in terms of tonal symmetry) tone.
nice sound u have there. good job. u should check out mine and tell me what you u think from one guitarist to another. the sound isnt as good as yours but comments would be much appreciated. cheers dude keep u the exellent work
You've accomplished all that i've ever wanted to do with a guitar. My dream is now to be on stage playing guitar with Rush on the song YYZ. My name up in lights... screaming fans.. all in a days work for them. I dream of being as good as they were!!!
lmao man, i hope your joking....hes inverting the camera..,(notice the electric drumset in the back going to the other side of the room) anyway, great job "gdgonzal"
The guitar is a modified Schecter and I do not use amps...haven't for a couple of years. I use various amp modeling software right into a board. I do this with all the instruments, even the drums which are rolands.
Dude believe me...you can get laid with your guitar skills. I'm not getting laid from GH2, no matter how good I am. And don't feel bad, because alot of people who play real guitar can't play GH2. Seems that their fingers want to move to notes that GH2 doesn't provide.
Wow dude....I play this song on Guitar Hero II, so I know how insanely hard this song is to play...I can't even imagine how hard it is to play on a real axe...super technical song...you are a fucking beast!
Well somewhere on this thread I've said this, but it's worth mentioning again. First, thanks...second, I actually did see the tab. The notes are correct but the inversion/position are, as you say, silly. So I just tweaked it a bit and I also rarely completely rely on tab. It's usually a combination of tab, notated music and my ear...with the latter having the final word.
Very nice! I'm a guitarist myself and would love to be able to play YYZ that well. Sidenote - Did you start to get worried when the house was burning down?
Well aren't you clever, that's what it looked like, eh. Actually I just reversed the image to make it appear as though I shifted camera position. The downside of this is that right switches to left...but I'm right handed in case you were wondering.
Well I learned this song a long time ago, and I used a combination of sheet music, tabs and my ear. I rarely rely solely on tabs, ultimately it has to sound right to me. If I had the tabs I'd gladly give them to you but I don't, sorry.
Dude. I really dig the personal touch you put on that solo. Reminded me of how Alex improvises when he does it live. That was some good stuff. Give yourself a high-five.
Thanks, and also for picking up on what I was trying to accomplish. A few have commented that I wasn't playing it "note-for-note", but they were missing the point...I wasn't trying to play it "note-for-note". I've been down that road, it's much more fun to try and make it your own while preserving the "a la Lifeson" feel. At some point I believe you need to move beyond the original notes, so that's what I tried to do.
You might be surprised to know that I didn't record this in stereo...there's no panning. I decided to go this route assuming most would be using standard pc speakers.
very nice, but being a professional drummer, i don't think that was neil peart, because I know every single drum beat to YYZ and the drummer takes alot away from the rhythm jam that Neil does. You sound like alot like Lifeson. I need a guitarist like you. RUSH RULES!!
Thanks, and you're right it's not Neil or Geddy...it's me playing with a track of two other musicians. So there's no guitar part other than what I'm playing though I did double some parts myself. But I'm not playing on top of a Rush track.
I appreciate it, there are some mistakes (some intentional others not) and I could have kept recording and then spliced something perfect together...but perfect is way overrated. A few negative spaces actually help I think. :>)
Those were some cool effects. Your playing was close to perfect man. I'm learning Yyz myself and it's a really hard song. On the one part with the barre chords where it picks three notes on the 6,5,4 strings, pick each note twice really quick.
Thanks, and I'm not actually trying to be exact. I've been down that road...now I find it more fulfilling to try to expand on the idea. Play it "like" Alex Lifeson, but he's not a robot, there's some variation each time he plays it...that's what I was going for.
nice work.
