  • I have an XP-30 with the "60s & 70s Keyboards" expansion card and it does have many awesome m-tron patches. I'm just wondering if this the board and card you're using here. Thanks.

  • Are you playing a Roland XP-30 there mate?

  • Nice sound! Be sure to check out my Genesis performance videos under ifly65

  • One monkey wrench in the works is the fact that Rutherford also played a cello line in the original.

  • what's your drawbar registration on the nord organ? sounds just right

  • You Magician! LOL Great advice! Superb playing and a great ear! (charming accent as well!)

  • VERY USEFUL.

  • That's just PEACHY! :)

  • Doug, this is great. Saw you and the band in Newcastle a couple of months ago and it was f**king excellent!!

Would love to see you back in the area again in 2011!

  • bravo!

  • that was perfect!!

  • That was splendid!

  • Awesome!

love the mellotron / organ sounds

    very nice indeed!

    Love the Strings......

  • fuck me! How clever is that?

  • I tried it on my PC3-X and it did the trick! Never thought of putting it through a lesley. You can all hear proof of it on the 8th of January 2011 in the Boerderij in Holland when we (Genesis Project) will perform The Lamb and probably Watcher as well. Thanks !

  • Very nice. Good use of a digital synth to emulate a very analog sound!

  • wow!

  • Duplicated to perfection

  • nice job setting that up doug, cant tell the difference

  • Hi Doug, I bought an m-tron, and tried installing it on my laptop, but I got an error message. Do you know anythinng about this> I need someone's help as I am not a musician, and have never own any kind of synthesizer. Thanks.

  • @KevindyII Hi - 'fraid not! There's all manner of things can go wrong with PC configurations, your best bet would be to get on a forum where VSTs are discussed. All the best,Doug

  • @KevindyII What operating system are you trying to install it on? I had a bit of trouble installing mine onto a macbook, had to download an updated version from G-Force's site to get it to work.

  • @rizz7604 I'm operating on Windows XP using a Dell laptop. Hey, have you seen the Phish version of Watchers?

  • @KevindyII Sorry, for some reason I was never notified that you wrote back, so it's taken me four months to come back to this video, haha. I've seen Phish's version; it's decent. Not quite as good as the original of course, but I'm glad to see bands paying tribute to Genesis! Hope you worked out your M-Tron problems.

  • Sorry didn't mean to sound like a dick

  • @ontherush77 Hi, I watched your version - nice sound - chords need a bit of work! All the best, Doug

  • @dougmelbourne Thanks I didn't spend to much time on it i may do one with a better take at some point but I did manage to gain access to a whole library of MKII samples which was helpful

  • Mine's better

  • @ontherush77 No its' not. So there.

  • Hello Doug

What's the name of your studio monitors that you're using for your keyboard set-up?

I see you have the Prophet 8 & NORD Electro 3, what are the names of the other Synths in this video?

Thanks Doug.....Just love this video.....does the Electro produce Hi quality Mellotron strings, choirs???

  • That certainly WAS useful, Doug!

    Thanks, man - great post!

  • the two chords following the F# chord or Gb chord

  • no the second part..... the change over.......... the VERY weird chords

  • what are the two obscure chords? i do the first one with Bminor holding A and B wtih thumb and adding G#...... how do you do those two chords? thanks

  • Hi,

Do you mean the opening chords? I play B Major 7th with an F# in the bass, resolving to C# major whilst holding the bass as a pedal note.

    Cheers, Doug

  • ur keyboard set up reminds me of rick wakeman's!

  • Thanks! It's not really based on any particular setup, it's just kind of evolved primarily to serve the needs of ReGenesis! I don't take the Prophet out usually though, it just lives at home.

  • Excellent Doug. Wish we had the chance to sit and chat over a cup of coffee.

  • Hi,

Sorry, I wasn't very clear in my video! Of course I'm aware that Tony Banks didn't use distortion on his mellotron, I am referring the the tube distortion from the Leslie cabinet. Having tried various combinations, it seems to sound better with more, rather than less, distortion. As you say, the amount of original signal routed through to the final sound really depends on the source samples.

  • nice rendition of the sound using no real mellotron samples. Though a few marks:

Tony Banks didn't use distortion on his mellotron. Though the tube in the rotary speaker may have been on (which gives it a bit of edge but to be honest, I can't hear it).

Also, if the sound benefits, try to route not all the signal to the rotary but let a bit of the original bleed trough. It might give a better result (but that really depends on what samples are used).

  • Once again an excellent explanation. Thanks Doug
