i have the 80 gb ps3 and i play backups all the time but you have to start the ps3 with a real ps2 game then swap the disc for the burnt one but you cant press eject to do it you have to take top of ps3 and blueraydrivecover off

No heres the differences

40Gb = No memory stick reader or Bc for ps2 games

60Gb = backwards compatability for ps2 and ps1 games, memorystick reader Also has a chrome trim =)

80Gb = ps1 compatable but very few ps2 game compatability also no memory card reader
