he is punching correctly and the movement is right. One problem though. He is winding up on the hook. You must get that kid out of that bad habit. By twisting back to throw the hook, he is telling (telegraph) the other fighter what is coming
padwork is really bad... u supposed to simulate an opponent, if u throw a hook to the head then put the f***ing pads where the head is not to the chest
@SvenskPersonn pffftttt he's light n lean because he trains well and fights at that weight u stupid fuck. discipline. something you havnt got, nor ever will.
@SvenskPersonn he doesn't , because he's body type is different. Do you think everybody must be stallone or shwartzneger? besides he is still very young and weight will grow once he gets older :)
ya he teachin him 2 hit harder but his punch is telegraphed. when u commit to sumthing your open for attack. his shoulder moves be4 nething done. he says he aint committing but watch shoulder moves first. yes hard hit but being committed n leading the shoulder like he sayin will get u one across your chin
Sorry, i had to break this down into 2 sections. This is a continuation of my previous comment: Those hooks he was throwing are always used in combinations with jabs, straights etc....so once youve thrown the first 2 punches in your combo, it will be alot harder for the opposing fighter to see the hook coming in the middle of a combo, so the shoulder movement is basically irrelevant unless its the only punch thrown at one time, or if its the first strike of your combo (which shouldnt be)
@babyface0514 you are absolutely correct when you say the shoulder moves first. His shoulder dips and a larger percentage of his weight is then distributed to his leading foot. But at the same time, there is a reason for bobbing and weaving, head movements and fakes. The other fighter cant be certain that hes about to throw that left hook. Usually fakes are when one fighter will commit (expand) and before he contracts, the guy who faked him into committing throws that hook.
Tip to the trainer, hold the mitt higher for his hook...that hook is mid to low and he isnt throwing right. I mexican style boxing and if we know we know somthing its boxing.
we can all speculate during pad work...but like Bruce said..."boards don't hit back" the bags, the pads are for the conditioning, the perfection of your own basic form and mastery of your own way.
SPARRING is where you are testing your distancing, timing, accuracy...
most fighters simply need to learn how to keep their fucking hands up...any fool can throw punches.

Hi Mr. Pilger. I am mma practitioner and i love boxing as well. Just have a question for you. In what ways do you think boxing is evolving? Just curious on you take on things. MMA is still so young and has alot of growing to do as far as technique. I want to see boxing move foward as well.
Awesome video! It really helped me alot. Thank you for your time sir. :)
Arm punches are for fighters that like to play it safe and land quick strikes with little power to score points and win by decision... Its sads that theres always going to be people winning fights like that... Hopefully some of them will learn from this... Nice video...
are there are some who have some advice for how I can learn MMA rapidly and well, then they love to write, I want to learn from many sports activities so you have much to spend on an every sutiasion. if there are some who have some advice or link to some good training videos, they love to write; D
By getting comfortable with it, you get comfortable with it by working on it as much as possible. Perform the box drill, I have that video on my channel at a higher speed and with3-4 steps in each direction.
Just move around the ring while in your stance pivoting and turning on the balls on your feet while stopping to set and punch. Do this and work up the pace and speed of it and you'll be very comfortable with your footwork.
good but you dont want to telegraph the hook too much by pivoting. He was pivoting back and forth but you should try not to pivot back so much so the guy wont see it and dodge it to counter you.
Pretty good instructional overall. He's winding up really bad before he thows that hook though. I suppose it's just for demonstration purposes though.
I teach the thumbs up method in mma because of the tendency for people to injure themselves due to improper form. The thumbs up hook will lead to less injury to the fighter throwing the punch in my experience.
My boxing coach told me knuckles down always, because then you cant be accused of slapping, but im not sure about mma rules, i guess watevers comfortable
compared to a snap hook this is double in power you wined your hip the side your punching with bringing your opposite gaurd up higher and releasing your hook often breaking through opponents gaurds setting you up for a straight that more than likely could finish a fight
some guys throw the hook with a rotated fist (like you were holding a beer mug). It's called an "english hook" and alot of coaches teach it that way. It seems to work well for keeping your hooks tighter and your arm at a better angle when you throw hooks (at least for me).
if thats the best hook youve seen your fuckin retarded, its funny how all these ppl talk all this shit and has probably never been in a fight in there life.
nice, pound signs, and give it a bit when i have a match i will put it up,but for now im not to worried about some one name wannabeebee trying to show me up
well its a good hook i just think a hook should be powerful, but yet fast at the same time, for combos, because the way he is making him pivot so much makes him look like he is performing a haymaker, pivot is good but not to much
Wonder why Bruce Lee left Wing Chun behind to formulate better strategies....maybe uh because of the classical bullshit that you have to waste time drilling or maybe the very stagnant footwork invloved because it is an "in-fighting" art.....maybe because he no longer believed in styles..you have two hands and two feet however you move them is Human Style...some people are not mentally subdoed when it comes to knockout power. You can train your tools all you can. combine Li, Qi, and Yi.= power.
LOL. No he wouldn't, and I KNOW that for a FACT. I'm a kickboxer, I weigh around 220, and am about 6'0 tall I REALLY doubt that he'd "knock my block off in a single hit" I was just surpised to see a boxer being that skinny, but if you would care to click on the video "Heavy Bag Interval Boxing Workout Drill" on your related video field to the right hand side of your screen and find my post there you can see that I show my respect for this guy's speed.
I was just talking some ignorant shit man haha. Sorry about that, you seem to be pretty big, i'm built like this kid xD. I wanna be bigger and get into MMA or boxing.
ROB you are one of the very few that know what your are talking about, on this subject. Your form is sharp.
Perfect technique not only gives you all the power possible, but it is economical making the punch faster and puts the balance where it belongs for the follow up or manuvering after the punch.
Its unbelievable some experts believe a puncher must be born !
Rob, I am sure you must laugh at such a silly comment... You also have excellent teaching skills.
I have to tell you buddy, you are 100% right. Punchers can be made. you don't know how many people i've trained to hit hard just by simply teaching them to pivot their feet and rotate their cores into a punch. You can literally see the difference in power when they hit the bag as they slowly begin to use proper punching technique!
I agree that technique and training can take anyone to new levels. However there just seem to be some people out there that are born to punch. For reasons I do not really understand, some guys seem to lack knockout power after years of training and some guys with little to no training are able to seemingly drop people at will.
i read an interview with Shane Carwin from the ufc he said he done this training thing with gsp and other from greg jacksons camp and apparntly a blood test revealed that shane is a desendint of some anticent warriours... crazy
i think ull find its due to the level of fast twitch muscle fibres the person has... and that im afraid is determined in the womb lol... those that dont have these genes need to work on there attributes so improving the torque of there punch... so u dont snap the person un concious its more a matter of removing there head wen it does connect!! :-p
the basic difference is the "extra" range of motion that you get when in a MMA stance, since you are more squared up to the opponent as oppose to a boxing stance where your lead hand is used more for distance than power.
in my opinion, it is better to train with heavier gloves, I'm a heavyweight & I train with 18oz Thai Gloves, so when you take those off & put the 4oz MMA gloves on, your handspeed is faster because you are used to punching with more weight on your hands, just my opinion though, do what you want
what about the size difference with 18oz gloves. You sneak the 4 oz gloves through a guard much easier then a 18oz glove. I think using the smaller gloves teach much better defense. I may try switching back and forth larger for speed and smaller for better defense rather then use just one
Hey thanks for the tip. Its always good to see a focus on fundamentals. MMA striking does seem really sloppy at times. A lot of times It seems better to come from a technical striking background then learn the ground game, instead of ground game with sloppy striking.
@buffbode with a few years of fundamental grappling u can most likely defend urself from much more expirianced grapplers, but in striking u need that expiriance i agree with u
This hook is good for boxing not mma when you pivot so much on the front foot and if you miss the hook you leave yourself open for for low kicks, single legs, and your back is exposed. Alot of good boxing coaches make bad mma striking coaches be they do not understand mma. The mma boxing stance has to be more square and less to the side than a traditional boxing stance so the fighter can sprawl. More boxing coaches should train in bjj, wrestling etc so they understand what a mma fighter needs
He is not standing like a boxer and with speed a pivot will not leave you exposed for a counter kick especially if the other fighter is stunned or hurt. That is the point. Yes, I have trained with my friends who are wrestlers and bjj and they like our striking.
wow; i can tell who really taught that Danny fighter. A very passionate dedicated coach, Sami S. Thats where he got his talent from, I can see SS. coaching in Danny's style.
he is punching correctly and the movement is right. One problem though. He is winding up on the hook. You must get that kid out of that bad habit. By twisting back to throw the hook, he is telling (telegraph) the other fighter what is coming

Thanks for your comments and for watching.
