  • @Chescalocs .. ive been wanting to get dreads but ppl are tellin me that i would have to cut all of my hair off.. is this true?? if so ALL of my hair or a certain length?? and can you give me any more info about it ..is there another way ??

  • I love it!!! totally wanted curls and left my pipecleaners at home. so this way is a lot better thanks!

  • how long have you had your locs? do they preserve your hair?

  • @fresh5243 8 years this month. um, i can't really say that locs "preserve" your hair. locs can be styled and dyed just like loose hair so they're just as susceptible to breakage/damage.

  • Soooo pretty!!!

  • Out of curiosity can dread locks go under water?

  • @ExtinctionIsHere of course! locs are just like loose hair

  • Such a beautiful look!

  • Love your hair and your wonderful bubbly personality! Beautiful Beautiful!!

  • Sooo Purdiee!

  • @chescalocs I recently came across your videos and I really like them. I am white and grew up in a place which wasn't very diverse, so I didn't know anything about the texture and maintenance of black hair until I saw Chris Rock's documentary Good Hair. I wanted to learn more after seeing it which is how I found your videos. You're so creative and this curly hairstyle is so cute on you! Keep up the amazing work!

  • i really like your hair. its really pretty :)

  • @Rorensokun 8 years this month!

  • @chescalocs oh my gosh thats crazy :D!!!!. thats awesome!!

  • super pretty!

  • i adore your dreads ahhhhhhh

    ....

  • Hello! You're funny and beautiful and you've just gained a new fan! I don't have dreads at the moment, have been relaxing my hair for years and have been seriously considering dreads...I'm sure you've been asked this a million times before but how long did it take to grow them out to this length?

  • is it weird that i think you and petrilude have similar manerisms :$?

love this! its super cute x

  • @HanHiyaaa ha! that's funny! josh is a good friend of mine, but i've never been told that

  • Hey Ches, if your hair has a little curls in i how do you get them to straighten back out? I recently got my hair re-twisted and now my hair is flipping forward and to the side and some of the locs have bends in them. I don't like this look and I'd like them to remain straight. Any advice?

    -Bruce

  • @DCfan4life washing them is the only way i know of getting them completely straight again. curls/waves tend to last a long time

  • your hair is beautiful no matter how you wear it. Can I touch your hair? hahahaha, couldn't help myself

  • thats pretty! :D how long do they last?

  • @PartyyNerd depending on how well you take care of them (ie wrapping at night) they can last up to 2 weeks! i included a photo of how my hair looked 2 weeks after and the curls fell a lot but my hair was still pretty curly.

  • wrapped up my hair likre this and everybody at work and church thought i cut it. haha. i got called shirley temple a lot as well. everyone thought it was cute though. i just took it down yesterday and i'm really liking the result. i'm glad you did this because my hair is just a bit longer than yours and bantu knots are not gonna work anymore. this just what i needed thanks :)

  • you make me want locks!!!!!!!

  • I adore locs... and yours are lovely :)

  • Even the single knot is cute and you look so lovely!

  • Do you sit under a hair dryer or air dry them?

  • @xtina8810 no, i let my hair air dry

  • @chescaleigh i just did the tutorial last night...absolutely loved the results! i did sit under the dryer this morning since i really wanted it curly for tomorrow. :) thanks for the tutorial...no more rollers!

  • "Oh hey grey hair." lmaooo she is so hilarious and informative. My fave Youtube personality.. If that's such a thing.

  • Also, meant to mention that I too have locks again. This is my 2nd time around and am in the beginning stages. Cut them in '05 and regretted it ever SINCE. Am excited about this time around. Also, I love that you don't use the word "dredlocks". There is nothing dreadful about them at all, so I discourage use of the term. Wouldn't it be something truly awesome (that must be my favorite word around YOUR videos) if EVERYBODY went back to natural? Just think of the BUYING power that would show?

  • Girl, your hair is AWESOME. I'm surprised that you can fit it under your blonde wig that you use for your WG spoof. After seeing your funny videos, at first I mistook this one for a SPOOF of all the hair tutorials here on YT. This is awesome...I can't stress enough. I am "like..SOOO subSCRII-iibe-D" (in my BEST Valley Girl accent, which YOU do so well!)

I loved your hair on AC. It was like a classy little hat! Very elegant indeed. Thanks for all your videos. I will cherish and enjoy them.

  • I love this look, haven't even taken mine down yet because I so like the look of the knots.

  • You're beautiful, and your hair is beautiful. I've never really wanted dreadlocks, but you make me consider it lol. Especially your up-do styles--gorgeousss!

  • Gah your hair is GORGEOUS! I don't have locs but you're making me consider them just so I can rock this style! Have you considered styling your hair like this for your wedding day? I think this style would be so beautiful and elegant on your wedding day! (Which is kind of a moot point because you will look absolutely AMAZING no matter what you do!)

  • This style is way too cute. Your locs are such an inspiration. I just started my third loc journey about two weeks ago.

  • My baby locs are only 7 months old. I'm hoping they turn out just like Chescaleighs

  • What is best way to Start locs??? My hair is already really curly and is about an inch and half

  • Hey franchesca I'm going to try to do these tonight! I nly have 100 locs so I don't think it wil take me too long. However, how long should I leave them in because I wanted to wear them out next week. The vid responses make it look like you should leave them in for at least a week.

  • is it odd that i love watching these vids even though i dont have dreadlocs?

  • your vids make me want locs SO BADLY. i tried them a while ago, but just looked like a dirty hippy. OH to have hair (and SKIN what the hell you goddess) like yours!

  • ur so pretty it makes me wanna cry

  • @bedheadshit oh no, don't cry! i don't know what you look like, but the doggie in your avatar is really cute! :)

  • @chescalocs thanks!!! :)

  • I want to thank you so much for your videos it has given my mom and me so many options for her locs. Her hair is just as long as yours and she is always complaining about it just hanging on her head doing nothing so you are such a help. We will be trying the loc knots as well and will keep you posted on the results. Also, I just love your energy in your videos!!!!!!!

  • Chesca..you are so freakin gorgeous!! Im also a super fan of your vids..I will try the loc knots...a little nervous I won't do it right..but I will try! thanks!!

  • @MsSHElectricity aw thank you! if you're nervous you can try it on just one loc to make sure you understand the technique. i promise it's not as difficult as you might imagine and the time it takes is well worth the results. please keep me posted!

  • i dont have locs so i just used relaxed hair

  • @nailsforlove i highly doubt this will work on relaxed hair. if you want curls you can do a roller set with perm rods

  • @chescalocs actualy it worked and turned out wonderful

  • @nailsforlove cool! i'd love to see photos!

  • what about the top quarter of each lock? how do you get them curly?

  • @maaaaanlisten as you can see in the video, the top quarter of the loc has a slight wave to it. the fact that the bottom of the loc is curly doesn't look strange or take away from the style. but if you're looking for a uniform curl from root to tip you can try pipe cleaners or rods

  • @chescalocs thanks! I think it's really cool that you (and the ladies you shouted out) have figured out a way to use your own hair as the rod. My locks are about your length, but about twice as wide, esp in the back. They take up a bunch of space on the rod/pipecleaner, and dont fit because of their length and girth. I may have to try and search for a longer rod, or something else to use, because I prefer it uniform. We'll see what I come up with!

  • @maaaaanlisten hmmm i'll keep my eyes out as well

  • You are so freaken' awesome...I'm over here talking to the screen and it's like you talk right back..ahahaha I should video tape that with you on the other side and make it like we are talking the same conversation

  • @goddessmarindy i actually love that idea!

  • wow how did you grow your hair so long?

  • @satsumajuice4 8 years of patience

  • omg your so freken pretty!!!

  • @funnygurrl123 aw thank you!

  • this is a beautiful style! do you sit under a dryer?

  • @ellsgirl nope! i believe i said it in the video, but i don't use heat on my hair. but i left the knots in for 2 days to ensure they were completely dry.

  • When your hair dries, do you just remove the rubber band and go or are you doing something else to the lock knot? Also, how is the end result different from pipe cleaner method, if any? Thanks! You have inspired me a lot b/c I was getting bored with my hair.

  • @kendaboo77 you take the rubber band off and then unravel the loc the same way you'd unravel it if you were using a roller. it's kind of like rapping the loc but backwards. hope that makes sense. i think the end result is very similar to the pipe cleaners, the main difference is not needing a tool which makes them a lot easier to sleep in and more wearable. the pipe cleaners can be kind of uncomfortable because of the wire. hope that helps!

  • @chescalocs great thanks. that makes perfect sense. i think i will try this method first, then try the pipe cleaners. i like easy and simple. i will post a pic to fb and/or twitter once i do it. i've liked your page and follow you now. thanks so much for the inspiration and great how to's b/c i was seriously thinking about chopping my locs and going back to my afro...even though i've had them for 5 years last month. =) i just didn't feel like i had versatility and now i do. thanks!

  • I used to use the same method (single loc knot) with locs above shoulder length. THAT ROCKED! I'm looking for slightly looser curls and I want somethgin I can wear in the world for a meetign tomorrow...

You've inspired me to try this with four locs...wish me luck!

  • @dlishintucson yay! you can also try this by just doing the curls on the lower half of the loc, so you just have curls at the bottom.

  • I am so doing this tomorrow!!! Thanks girl!

  • Hey! Ok so I have done this style wih shorter lox, it looks great and wondered if anyone has tried to re-do it without washing the hair again. I want some curls next week but I am cautious as I don't want to wet my hair too regularly. I washed only a week ago but have a few lox in the middle that haven't fully "locked" yet and don't want to unravel them. Any thoughts/suggestions welcomed. Thanx beauties! ;)

  • I have never seen hair like this before... It looks so beautiful on you. Make me wish I can do too but I don't think it possible with Asian hair.

  • I love the results, you're so creative and your hair is always stylish.

  • Awwww look at your gray in the front. Welcome to the club. *smile*

  • @jenjaq77 ha! i was going to put an annotation about it, but i totally forgot. thanks for the reminder. i've got a few of them and they without fail refuse to loc! there's one in the back that's super long. i was tempted to pull it out, but i kinda like it lol

  • @chescalocs: (running through the door, unexpected...) Please! Noooo! No pulling them out, please!

(chuckle) I have one gray hair on the side that shows with an updo. It literally sticks out the side as though it is waving around to prove a point that it will only do what it wants to do. I've come to find it's resistance charming--I simply don't have any other choice! (ha!) beauty for granted.

  • @dlishintucson oh, don't worry. i'm not pulling them out. i like them! mine do the saaaame thing. they're quite defiant

  • Can you do this with kinky twists too?

  • @natachi916 you'd have to try to find out. i'm not a hair stylist, i really only know what works on myself. can't hurt to try it though!

  • i don't have locs but ur fly so i'm def subscribing!

  • Im white as hell do u think i should do locks like that?

  • So when you do not retwist your locs do you have a little bit of loose hair?

  • @UntamedAwesome yes, but it's not really as noticeable as i'd assumed. I think because I did the loc knots and also because i've trained my hair to grow in fairly neatly

  • she seriously makes me wanna dread my hair

  • @babyluver93 tryin' to lure you to the dark side...muah ha ha haaa!

  • @chescalocs lol it worked cause now I have an appointment to start my locks. *insert an even more evil laugh*

  • @babyluver93 nice! congrats!

  • OMG...Has anyone ever told you that your voice is very similar to Saturday Night Live's Vanessa Bayer? Especially when she does the Miley Cyrus character-your tone, cadence, etc. is very similar. :-)

  • @cocoakeke nope! and i used to work with one of Vanessa's friends :) I don't think I sound anything like Miley Cyrus though. yikes!

  • Gonna try this style today

  • hey. ur vids are always great. quick question. how did u get ur curls to start so close to the roots. is it the wetness of the locs or something? thanks alot.

  • @jahliones12 thanks! it's because i fold my loc down to 1/4 size. i think that helps

  • Soo adorable! I'm subscribing! Hehe...my cousins have locs and always have cool new ideas for their hair but this would be great for them as well! :-) and has anyone ever told you that you and Chyna from that Disney series A.N.T Farm resemble a lot?

  • @DaMeekz thanks! nope, i've never heard that before. but then again I don't have cable and I think most of my viewers are a little older. i looked her up though, she's cute!

  • @chescalocs You are most welcome! Yes she's adorable, I've been watching a ton of tyler perry's plays and movies since I was around her age so seeing her mainstream was cool. Yes true I understand, my little sister is a huge fan. But you're beautiful & I love ya hair was my compliment to you, I just tend to speak backwards lol. :)

  • Loving ur curls; but that necklace, AWESOME! :)

  • @janinescloset thanks! Pat says it looks like a super hero's lol

  • EXACTUALLY?! LOL (:47)

  • @MerryJ3000 sounds like "exactly" to me....

  • Love it...thanks for sharing ;-)

  • The curls look beautiful and at first glance I assumed you used some sort of tool but gurl....these coils are amazingggggg!! Thanks for another fabulous loc tip!

    (◠‿◠) Kokofemme

  • i just recently started my locs a week ago and i was looking for someone who can guide me through my journey and u are the perfect person.. u are very bubbly and U reassure Me that I CAN DO THIS

  • love it

  • i can see that style with a veil on top. very elegant if u style it just right

  • Beauteeeeful!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I really like this hairstyle. Awesome!

  • gorgeous. Love LOVE LOVE it :-D

  • Beautiful as usual!!! :0

  • The loc knots results are great and your hair is so long now it's awesome:)

  • That's beautiful I love love love it!!!!!! I'm gonna try this when my locs get longer

  • that's soo cute!

  • do you think people told you to do one loc because your locs are thicker mine are small and doing one at a time would take way more than an 1.5 hours what do you think

  • @epiphaninails if your locs are thinner then the 1 loc per method might not work for you. you don't have to follow exactly what i do to a T. my goal is to inspire you and give you options that you can then modify to fit your hair and your personal style. you might want to try this with 2 locs or even 3 if you have sisterlocs or your locs are very thin. you just have to figure out what works best for your hair's thickness/length

  • awesome video! I love them! You are my loc inspiration

  • I love it!!!

  • Yay! Love the curls! I love how the styles you can do on locs can give you short, medium or long hair [without having to add anyone else's hair - lol!] Fabulousity!

  • So cute! Thumbs up!

  • you are so beautiful with your hair just straight.

  • I LOVE this look! Your locs are awesome!

  • Absolutely gorgeous :)

  • a million and one thumbs up if I could. I will try this before I leave for NY on the 23rd ^_^

  • tried this style as soon as i saw it on fb. loved it! i did end up allowing the folded part to twist onto itself and I didn't really care for that; you end up with the wavy curl pattern for top half of the loc and the curly fries at the bottom. I'll try it untwisted next time. I just wanted to mention that I use a hair net with a scarf over it to maintain the curls overnight. thanks for another great loc style!

  • Thanks so much for sharing, I'm getting ready to do loc knots for the 2nd time on Monday. I still have lots curls from you 1st video (lasting over 5 weeks). Now I'm going for the single loc knots you just Demo'd. I love that this method appears to be very gentle on my locs than other methods for curling locs, no products, and no stressing the locs with tools/equipment. Your locs look beautiful as usual !!

  • I don't have dreds but I would love to have them! I still like watching your hair tutorials though lol! I think it's more of a "wishful thinking" kind of thing =)

  • GAWGOUS. just gorgeous :) that's what i think! :) each chescalocs video i watch just brings me that much closer to chopping off all my hair and starting over with locs...lol. one day... :)

  • yeah, when i do my curls now (pipecleaner or locknots) I don't even retwist with product anymore. just curl and go! lol

  • @luvlilocs34 i'm pretty amazed at how my roots look considering i didn't twist them. to think, i've had locs for almost 8 years and i learn something new about them all the time.

  • super cute!

  • Very pretty and WOW ur locs are so long!

  • @that1taylor they are crrrraaazy long. never in my life did i think i'd have this much hair

  • @chescalocs Yes, i hear a lot of people say the same thing..but ur locs are beautiful.

  • This way of loc knot with 1 loc looks very good or maybe better. I am so happy about the option of produce or no produce it goes very well with my budget. The many looks you get at each stage when the curl relaxes is just what I'm looking during the 2 weeks. Beautiful!!

  • this is absolutely beautiful!!

  • I use to have dreadlocks when I was a kid and watching your videos is making me want them again.

  • looks so amazing! makes me wish i had locs so i could wear this look! exquisite!

  • Beautiful indeed!

  • Trying as soon as I get some length my locs! Lol!

  • love it!

  • Really cute! I can't believe how long your hair is! I remember your happy birthday video when you hair was short!

  • @tivaevae can you believe that was almost 4 years ago??? crazy

  • You hair looks so adorable!!! Have you decided how you are going to wear your hair for your wedding day?

  • How long do you want your hair to get? Like, at what point will you be like "this is enough" and start cutting the ends or doing whatever you have to do.

  • @XxXTaylorLaineXxX i dunno, i think i'm starting to get there though lol my locs are starting to get in the way. i don't think i'll let them get longer than this, but i do like the length. if i trim them it'll be to just get them all even. they're a million different lengths right now which is annoying. i don't think i can do longer than waist length.

  • @chescalocs My locs are just past my butt....I want to cut them just a little, but so far I just don't have the heart to do it yet. Since you shared your loc knots video, I can get the illusion of shorter hair now :D

  • I don't even have locs. I can't even handle how much I love these videos.

  • @XxXTaylorLaineXxX haa! aw thank you!

  • Omgoodness THOU ROCKETH!!!! Must try this!

  • WOW your hair looks AMAZING!!! so does your skin :)

  • @jemy1415 thanks!

  • This seems like it will give me a MUCH better curl as well as a better sleeping experience :)

  • You look so much like my sister, it's not even funny. You are so pretty :)

  • @amocha82 aw thanks! send me a pic of your sister!

  • Franchesca you need a bonnet!!! LOL. Its so much easier than a scarf.

  • @FairyChaca so i've heard! i don't have any trouble using a scarf, but i'm going to look into the satin bonnets. someone posted a link to one on my FB page

  • so pretty! but that would take be forever and a day!... my locs are thin.

  • Cute, Chesca! Can't wait until my hair is a little long so I can try this.

  • I love this method of curling locks:)your hair is so beautiful

  • I'm afraid of doing this now. If your hair is that long, and the loc knots made them half your original length, then my hair would be way above my ears.

  • @purpletune1225 well it's your choice how tight or how long you want the curls. i chose to fold my hair down to a quarter of the loc length, but you could absolutely do this technique on just the ends of your locs to create a longer curl, or do 2 locs at a time for a loose curl. everyone's hair is different, so yours won't come out exactly like mine. you can also pull on the curls to lengthen them

  • I recently loc knotted my hair, great results. Thanks Chesca!

  • I had a professor who wouldn't grow her hair any longer than shoulder length to prevent it from weighing too much. Does all that hair ever get HEAVY?!?

  • @cedfact once again, everyone's hair and personal preference is different. my hair doesn't feel heavy at all, but that's me. on someone else, they might think otherwise.

  • Very Cute!! Your locs have grown so long and beautiful! My roots have really grown out so I wonder what this what look like on my hair? Thanks for sharing!

    *Hugs* Mylaylay18

  • The first (and only) time I did the loc knots I did about 2 or 3 on each loc knot and was thinking of doing one each the next time - but just the thinking of it got me tired since my locks are two times the number of yours and aren't exactly short either...but maybe - I'm lazy :O

but your locks do look fabulous as per usual:)

  • @Jamafrikan876 not retwisting the roots did make it go by faster, but it is a lengthy process. but for me, it's worth it.

  • @chescalocs Yessss! Totally worth it.

  • I love it!!

  • the front locs of my hair wont stay loced i have done my locs recently and a week later it was undone again ugh what do you recommend?

  • @Aishaoaktree1122 it takes anywhere from 6 months to a year for hair to loc. it's certainly not going to be loc'd in a week. if you hair unravels, just retwist it back. you need to train your hair so that it will stay in place and eventually loc. it doesn't happen over night, you just have to be patient.
