This is sooooo great my Dad - Ken Purpur is on the USA Team - they won the silver & they would have won the gold but they didn't have scouts back in the day -- my Dad is alive & well & I seel him in the video clip -- we've looked everywhere for more footage but haven't found it yet -- he is in the UND Hockey Hall of Fame & his brother is one the only Americans to have played on the original 6 -- he is in the National Hall of Fame & at the UND Fido Cliff Purpur was his name -- love it --
How about the tune? A jazzy arrangement of "The Song of the Volga Boatmen." A bit different from what the composer intended, I'm sure. But nice.
That uniform design looks fine to me in the Soviets' red and white. Was a whole different matter entirely in that Canucks' color scheme. (Although as a kid, I didn't think it was that bad.)
Oh, by the way, according to some historians, ice hockey had only been introduced in the Soviet Union a few years before.
This ice rink still stands, I know as I curled there last year. Amazing place with stunning scenery.

The US jerseys look more like the New York Rangers. Also they wore them in once in Vancouver. And Canada had no red.

So much nicer in color, makes the footage look 60 years younger.

I like the V-jerseys worn by the Russians. Similar to the gold, orange and black V-style jerseys worn by the Vancouver Canucks in the early 1980's.

I wonder if the Russian jerseys were the ideal for those awful Vancouver Canucks jerseys from the 1980's.

Great film clip.
The Canadian goalie is Denis Brodeur--the father of Martin Brodeur of the New Jersey Devils.
