  • I just bought a 2003 GT automatic and I think it has 3.73 gears installed can you tell me what RPM you pull at 60MPH I am right around 1900

  • how much did it cost to have the gears installed

  • @DjJBMIII I wanna say like $500 total for the gears and labor. $200 for the gears, $300 for the labor. That was a couple years ago though.

  • shift kit?

  • @DSH1ZZN1T Nope, just a regular automatic. It has a sct 2 tuner and was tuned by a professional.

  • Damn that was a nice bark into second.

  • What made it squeal tires on gear shift? I didn't know automatic's did that.

  • Did you calibrate your speedometer after the gear switch? Otherwise you are getting some very skewed results.

  • @wshelto6 Of course. The day I got the gears I had it tuned with an sct xcaliber 2 tuner. The guy who tuned it tweaked some of the things plus calibrated the speedometer.

  • Mine is modded and it does not do 5.4 seconds as most state. Stock is rated at 5.6 seconds, also untrue. More like 6.1 or so, stock.

  • @jerm26554 Keep in mind, this was on crappy tires, traction control on, and overdrive on. Plus I spun the tires too much. I have gotten better/wider tires and know how to drive it better now, so I am sure my time would be way faster. In fact I should go make a new video.

  • @jerm26554 The 5.4 seconds that they record is with a professional driver, not just your average run of the mill guy like you or me. I pulled off 5.5 in my old 01 Bullitt that was basically stock except for no midpipe and Flowmaster catback. So it IS possible, you just gotta keep trying to achieve a better time. Also, get a G-Meter. That'll tell you exactly how fast you're getting to 60 AND through the 1/4 mile. :)

  • Can I ask why 3.73sinstead of 4.10s? Did u consider 4.10s? Just curiuos dude

  • @cupcakeflake Yes, I considered both, but since I drive a lot on the highway, I went with the 3.73's. I guess it depends on how you plan on driving and what is important to you. EIther way you will be happy I am sure. See ya on the road!

  • @Linktheworld thanks fir the reply man. I`.m thinking 4,10s but I think thats greed, like I think , i`m missing out on more `go` but maybe not practicleto be honest . ama maybe gonna go 3.73s .

  • @cupcakeflake you dont want 4.10 unless you only drive it once a week or even less, i drove mustangs with 4.10 ....insane power, it really wakes up the engine but rough and not very fun everyday not considering the bad gas mileage

  • very nice

  • the lil green light, that represents tire spun r8t? what if i just hit the track button would they rly spin? probably

  • @Mustangmike232 Did you just answer your own question? probably.

If you want me to answer your question, then the answer is no, they would just squeek a little. Watch my video 20-80mph I have the traction control off.

  • @Linktheworld haha yeah that was a stupid question. i had my 02 GT for like a week now im still not rlu familiar with it and all the stuff on it

  • i love that sound when it gets up over 5000rpm it screams

  • @Mustangmike232 Thanks man. Watch / Listen to my other videos I have ones where you can hear it scream better than this one.

  • @Linktheworld alright al do that. yeah but nice mustang gotta love the 4.6 awesome stuff

  • is this an automatic? if so i have an 04 gt automatic and want some gears but i heard that on the automatics it will hit the limiter goin into second before it shifts if you're going balls out? is this true? and why above 5000 rpms does it make that screaming noise? mine does it too, all i can think of is my CAI

  • @coolguy3432 Yeah I think it is the CAI as well. This is an automatic with 3.73 gears, so you can see how it shifts. I have in professionally tuned with a sct xcaliber 2 tuner from a local performance shop, so I am sure if you do the samething you can tell the shop when you want it to shift and control everything about your car.

  • @Linktheworld noo that noise is the transmission whining. i think all auto mustang gt's do it

  • I got 373's in my GT, and yes, it is definitely worth it if you want your car to be more punchy. It digs off the line harder. You notice it immediately. I'm still wondering what going the OTHER way would net for loss or gains. Like for instance, 2.73's. Yes, less torquey, but one less shift and you are in your powerband for a longer period of time once you get there.

  • It depends what you do with the car and when you shift. My BMW in autocross could benefit from 3.73 gearing but 3.91 would be overdoing it because requires more shifting and you loose more time on the track

  • if your GT had more horsepower though and wasnt electronically limited it can go faster than 150. even with 4.10's.assuming the aerodynamics and weight variabes remain the same

  • Do you find that there's enough acceleration difference to justify the cost? Any MPG difference on highway?

  • Yes, worth it!

See the thing is I dont know if the guy I took it to for the tuning with the sct xcaliber2 chip did the best job. It is a good tune as far as performance, but the gas MPG went down after I got my tune done.

Then again, I dont know if it is possible to get the best of both worlds.

  • MPG will go down a bit but not drastic. My BMW 328 was getting barely 30 on the highway with the stock 2.91 diff and 28 with the 3.38. Your mpg around town will likely remain the same and *might* even get a bit better

  • its cool i was getting a point across. no one really needs top speed. its just the principle

  • Mustangs do not have enough horsepower to overcome the drag at high speeds. Let's say for instance that your top end is around 155 drag limited. With the 4.10 gear, your engine doesn't have to work as hard to turn the rear tires. So not only will you get there faster, but since you're now actually using the horsepower more efficiently, you may actually get a 165 mph top speed

  • umm...ok thanks I guess? I only drive up to 130, so I dont need to increase my top speed.

My mustang has enough horsepower for me, anymore and there is a 93% chance of me killing myself. As it is I already have a 62% chance.

  • very good point my friend!!!!!!!

  • lol

  • @Linktheworld Where did you get your statistics.

  • @treyownz1 -ha, oh I just made those up to be funny, guess it didnt work.

    Well one guy laughed.

  • @Linktheworld I'm 16, and have an 1991 Mustang GT 5.0 so yeah everytime I strap in there's probably a 96% chance lol.

  • @treyownz1 Ahhh...the good ol days when I was 16 and had my first mustang. I miss those days. It was not snowing when I went to school, but then it snowed and I had to get back home and I got into a 6 car pile up and wrecked it completly. It sucked. I have only had mustangs from then on though. Point of the story is to drive safe....fast but safe...lol.

  • @Linktheworld true that! haha

  • 4.10, reduces your top end, but makes for better off the line kick. gears like 2.73 lessen the acceleration, but give more top end. it's a compromise. that's why I always ran 3.55 gears with my GT - good acceleration, but still did 145 top end.

  • @marcomariaz26 nice comment, very informative, in my case i wat 4.10 gears beacuse i don't do highway driving and i like to feel the power from taking off at a light, it's a 01 mustang gt with diablo sport tuner,70mm trottle body, oversize plenum, off road x pipe and a slp loudmouth exhaust, i am only missing the 4.10 gears, i can't wait to put them on. i have another vehicle as my daily driving car so i should be fine. this mustang is my toy.

  • @ws3133 so how annoying are those loudmouth while cruising? You should check out the Bassani cat back, just as loud when accelerating, but it doesn't have that awful drone while cruising.

  • @67stang351cle Not annoying at all. I dont know if I just like the noise, or maybe because I normally have the music blasting when I drive, but I never notice the noise.

  • with 4.10 gears you'll be hitting redline in fifth long before 165mph

  • no u wouldnt, with 4.10s at 6000rpms in 5th you would be going 180mph, that is if your car had enough power to get to that speed...

  • I guess mustangs have really long gearing then. My BMW with 3.91 tops out at 129 at 7400rpm. If i got further it will bounce off the rev limiter.

  • yea mustangs do have pretty tall gears, with stock 3.27 gear my mustang could go 140mph at 6000 rpms in 4th gear, now with a 4.10 im in 5th gear at a lil under 5000rpm at 140mph

  • @peepeeskillz and you remove the factory limit in the ECU. Even though the stock car is only capable of 140 or so it still has that stupid 155 restriction!

  • that was 5 seconds btw. nice time

  • you dont lose top speed with gears as long as you have horsepower to back it up. the more power your car makes the faster it will go. gears get you there faster. you can actually gain top speed with them. my 01 gt has the 4.10s and 300 hp~ and i get to 160. i put gauge cluster from the cobra in there . i like the whitness

  • 6 seconds flat.... Automatic right? Not bad since trac came on.

  • yeah its an auto, but I spun the tires way too much. I have since gotten wider and stickier tires and it is quicker since I LAUNCH instead spin.

  • Heh, yea. Stock tires aren't very great, especially with better gears and really hitting it.

I'm thinking about picking myself up some 3.73's and a short throw shifter, and some nitto 555's. Should provide a nicer ride! With my setup now and the new tires and gears im hoping to get a good 60 foot time and a 0-60 time of about 5.0-5.2

  • Yeah sounds like a plan! Post some videos when you get done with it!

  • Sure thing dude.

  • was the traccion contol on?

  • yes

  • you have anything done to the car but gears?

  • also have an aluminum driveshaft, coil on plug kit, 75MM throttle body and plenum, K&N colr air intake, electric water pump, overdrive pullys and have had it tuned and calibrated by horsepower by herman

  • Check the odometer right at the start!

  • ha yeah - 43,400.0 exactly, couldnt plan that if I wanted to. I just pulled over when I thought it was clear! lol

  • nice man i have a ls1 ta but i might be getting a 67 mustang if this guy we let the pony mustang go 4 me :)

  • Yeah it might take a little convincing to get that mustang owner to get rid of that!

  • yea it has da same paint job as elenaor but it not really a gt500 but it very nice if i do get it i posted video of it :)

  • ok cool, look forward to it! Good luck getting it!

  • Only 15 MPH? That's kind of surprising. I've got an '03, just rolled over 26,000. Granted, I'm not running 3.73 gears - just under drives, FIPK intake, and Steeda springs, but I average between 17 and 19.1 on 91(I'm a Nazi about keeping track of my gas milage) depending on if I keep my foot out of it or not.

  • Yeah man, but I drive like a maniac. Plus I dont think the tune I got with my tuner was good for my gas miliage, I think the guy just tried to get me the most horepower.

  • Gotcha. That's a nice ride , man. I've the the 75mm throttle body and a new plentum on order.

  • hey dude does it 0 to 60 faster with traction on or off

  • You know, I am not sure, all I know is that I spun the tires way too much in this video.

I am going to get some better wider tires and try again soon, then I will see how the TC affects things.

  • TC will retard your ignition quite a bit. You'll get a better time if you turn it off. Nice run.

  • mine is faster with TC off for sure. It losses to many RPM, if its on but off it spins for a second but the rpm are still up.

  • 434k wtf miles?

  • Come on now, look at it again you see it starts with a ZERO...how many cars do you know have a spot for the million numbers? NONE they go to 999,999 then they restart....so lets think about this...if the first number on my odometer is a zero then 043,400 POINT zero makes more sense right?

  • Not to mention, you think I drive 2 miles in 14 seconds? Because in the video the last number goes from a zero to a 2.

  • 43,000.0

  • exhaust* lol i can't type

  • Thanks, It is a BBK off road H pipe to flowmasters.

  • man that beast sounds good, what's your exhast on it?

  • 15mpg that's a lot compared to my 00 stang v6 with 20's chrome wheels and 2 12's speakers! i get 10mpg on the city and like 12on the highway so i plan to change my engine for a 4.6 liter

  • Forget that comment i get 14 on the city and 16 on the highway.....

  • dang man then thats great then, real fast i have all that shit mine dont pull that fast i wonder if its bc mines an auto. keep it up man

  • What really helped was the time I brought it in to the shop and all at once I put in better lighter break rotors, replaced the heavy driveshaft with an aluminum driveshaft, coil on plug kit, H pipe, upper and lower control arms, and had it re-tunes for 93 octane gas.

Ever since that trip to the performance shop my car has been a lot quicker. Oh and mine is an automatic too.

  • not making fun of his mustang or anything the reason he looks like hes that fast is bc when u put gears in it changes ur speedometer reads like 10 mph faster. i just put 3.73 in my 00 GT and it was saying i was doing 0-60 in5.2 secs. as soon as i diablo tuned it, it read fine. add pullies man ull be even quicker.

  • I already tuned it with an xcalaliber 2 tuner - so the speedometer was corrected. Oh and I already do have pullies and a bunch of other stuff.

  • The day I put in the gears I had it tuned and corrected, so the speed in this video is correct.

  • no he make 5.77sec which is pretty good

  • i have 4.11 gears in my 1994 gt

  • You should make a video, I wanna see how it pulls.

  • That'd be 4.10 gears. F'n chevy guys.

  • how much do 3.73 gears cost and how much Gas mileage do they take out?

  • The gears I got were ford racing and cost $250...then another $200 for the installation.

As far as the gas milage it is hard to say. I mean the car only gets 15 MPH, so definetly not good by any means but I didnt notice a decrease after getting the gears, maybe that was because I also had a bigger t/b and plenum, aluminum driveshaft, coil on plug kit, and tuned with an sct xscaliber 2 tuner at the sametime I had the gears put in. So all that other stuff should have helped the gas milage.

  • 6 secs... not bad at all

  • get some more grip and you'll lose 1.5 seconds off the launch, she's spinning to much.

  • dude, check my vid out, but nice stang

  • 6 sec not bad

  • 3.73= high-speed and very fan drive
