They are both great singers but I have to give it to fanny on this one. Kelly hit some notes but that's all she did was follow fanny. @ 2:33-2:40 if they had let fanny go with that, Kelly would have went home. You couldn't even hear Kelly trying to go high when fanny cut loose.

The passion in her performances is still there. She rocked it at the Gala. It's her technique which has been faltering recently. Ave Maria was beautiful. That high note at the end - gorgeous. But this year her voice seems to have changed. It's huskier than usual. She sticks to her lower register, and ALWAYS lowers the key when she sings live. It's like she can't hit high notes anymore. But I respect your opinion. Despite how it sounds, I LOVE Kelly and would LOVE to be proven wrong on this one!

One part of a song doesn't determine who's better. Through out the song, they both held their own VERY well. Each singer will do something the others singer can't do as well, or at all. That is what makes them unique. Besides, it's a duet, not a belting competition. If you like Kelly better, just say so. I like them both.

So many people have sung their own versions of these, but I think Kelly owns it once she sings it. (Well, "Without You", may still belong to Mariah, but KC's version holds up; her voice soars!)

I think they were both thinking "we rock, we sound awesome, now lets just have some fun and show them what we can really do" and it was so relaxed and upbeat it was awesome. Fantasia did awesome, but it didn't seem like she enjoyed as much as Kelly, and in fact the second before the credits come on screen Kelly goes to give Fantasia a second hug and Fantasia pulls away. Maybe I saw it wrong but that is how it appeared.
I think Kelly really likes Fantasia's voice, and loved singing with her.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion; here's mine...both singers were exceptional, but Fantasia was obviously holding back which gave Kelly room to do her thing in the ad-lib department...we all know what Fantasia can do with a song and now we know what Kelly is capable of..quite nice, y'all!

You know, I wasn't going to take it further, but when you say, "Fantasia was holding back..." LMAO. Fantasia was trying so hard to outsing Kelly that I thought her uteris was going to fly out and flop on the stage she was pushing so hard. she was trying to get all tough and shit and at 1:45 Kelly gives her that look! lol And each time Fantasia tries to overpower and hit bigger notes, Kelly smacks her down. Had Kelly just done it to her without her asking for it, I'd feel sorry for Fanny.

Now I'm feeling like a dick....but really, in Fantasia's defense...I don't know anyone who could out shout Kelly AND hit bigger notes. Kelly isn't my favorite, but when she gets shouting and hitting notes she's pretty much untouchable. Maybe Patti could out-do her? Probably. :-)

I'd like to see Kelly hit notes like that today. She keeps lowering the key in her live performances lately. 'Tis very annoying, Kelly can't be going down the Mariah route after only 6 years in the business

I don't agree with you. Her voice sounds better than ever, maybe it's just cause the genre is different or something than back then that's annoying you. If you listen to her performances of Ave Maria for the pope, The National Anthem at Yankees, Home at Mardi Gras, My life would suck without you at the gala in Spain and many others you realise her voice is amazing. The passion in her performances is still there. She rocked it at the Gala. It's her technique which has been faltering recently. Ave Maria was beautiful. That high note at the end - gorgeous. But this year her voice seems to have changed. It's huskier than usual. She sticks to her lower register, and ALWAYS lowers the key when she sings live. It's like she can't hit high notes anymore. But I respect your opinion. Despite how it sounds, I LOVE Kelly and would LOVE to be proven wrong on this one!

No. She can't hit high notes anymore - or so it seems, anyway. I honestly don't believe you when you say she's hit those notes. The keys in her live performances are too low. Incidentally, it's usually a good idea to use good spelling, grammar and punctuation when you're trying to insult somebody's intelligence. Otherwise you just look STUPID.

One part of a song doesn't determine who's better. Through out the song, they both held their own VERY well. Each singer will do something the others singer can't do as well, or at all. That is what makes them unique. Besides, it's a duet, not a belting competition. If you like Kelly better, just say so. I like them both.

Uh, actually Kelly outsang the hell out of 'Tasia. You couldn't even hear Fantasia when they were both belting at the same time...especially on the "KIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING!!!" notes. Kelly's is like an octave higher, and her facial expression is just like "um, yeah..." and Fantasia looks like she's taking a deuce lol.

yeah kelly hit a G5 with ease! she is amazing...i would have like to hear fantasia, kelly and vanessa amorosi sing this! vanessa would have made them both bust their vocal chords! she can go to A5 in chest and C6 in mixed lol! and your so right, mariah cant do that G live i dont think.....the highest i have heard her go recently is a F5....sometimes bordering F#5 but thats it and it sounds rough! fantasia has hit G before on i believe but it was short and unsustained!

they both did great. but if you ask me, Fantasia was the only one who brought O R I G I N A L I T Y to the song. about 70% of Kelly when she sung parts by herself was too close to the same runs that Mariah does. Fantasia did her best to make the song her own. Not playa hatin...just speaking the truth. but don't get me wrong. I LOVE THEM BOTH! gooooo Kelly and Tasia!

Pinkdogwood757: I agree that KC sounds great here but you should hear her sing "Natural Woman", or "Without You". So phenomenal. Anyway, I even love her "My Grown Up Christmas List." So many people have sung their own versions of these, but I think Kelly owns it once she sings it. (Well, "Without You", may still belong to Mariah, but KC's version holds up; her voice soars!)

I think they were both thinking "we rock, we sound awesome, now lets just have some fun and show them what we can really do" and it was so relaxed and upbeat it was awesome. Fantasia did awesome, but it didn't seem like she enjoyed as much as Kelly, and in fact the second before the credits come on screen Kelly goes to give Fantasia a second hug and Fantasia pulls away. Maybe I saw it wrong but that is how it appeared.
I think Kelly really likes Fantasia's voice, and loved singing with her.

OKAY- One Im a white dude. Two-This song is good. They did good. its just I think Kelly was better. Third-Don't argue-just agree that they did good and enjoy it. I know that Fantasia couldn't read music when On her season of Idol because I looked it up and I saw a interveiw and she admitted that. But, she is still good at singing and doing what she does.... its just i prefer Kelly. cause I thought she was a bit better.
