Oh and you're not fat. The person who said that is probably sitting in his basement eating Cheetos and typing at the same time, frustrated that he can't and never will be able to get enough height for a full jeté
Too much ballet influence in the choreography. For instance, the typical ballet tool of repeating the same sequence of steps 3-5 times in a row (whether they fit the music/plot/lyrics or not), which is a way of showcasing a highly technical dancer's skills and stamina, doesn't really go with the stage musical format. That said, the dancer has excellent technique and can spot like nobody's business. Just remember, a derby hat does not jazz make. Cheers!
@bobbymoya Excellent observation! The choreographer was Russian, a former ballet dancer with the Kirov, and I'm fairly certain he was choreographing to the sound of the song rather than to the lyrics or the intent in the context of the show. Thanks for watching and commenting. :)
Swen Swenson is my great uncle. This is a great song, and you did a good job with the dance! (Although I never saw my uncle perform it). Congrats on picking an AMAZING song :)
I wish somebody could point me in the right direction of getting some type of copy of this play on video. It's my favorite play, I was on the stage crew many many many years ago in high school and I would LOVE to see it again!
The choreography is strictly concert style and a little awkward in the commercial sense. Nice steps with very little form. Greg tho charming is an exceptional dancer but doesn't quite fit the mold in this number. He'd have to apply himself in the jazz feeling which comes from within. It must be there first. He looks good and moves extremely well but has to be more natural and down to earth. If Greg had a different choreographer who understood the feeling, he could pull it off.
This is not a "Sid Caesar tune." True, Sid Caesar starred in the original Broadway production of LITTLE ME, but he did not write it, nor was this even his number in the show! In fact, Greg is dancing to the Original Broadway Cast Recording, and the vocalist you hear is Swen Swenson, who sang and danced this number on Broadway in 1962. The lyrics are by Carolyn Leigh and the music is by Cy Coleman, both famous Broadway songwriters who deserve proper credit. Nevertheless, nice dance, Greg.
@ronspivak Thanks for saying exactly what I was going to. Love that Swen Swenson! Wish I could go back in time and watch him perform this in the show. Nice an effort as this one is (and it does have some charm, and lots of heart), I suspect Swen burned up the stage, just as he burns up the stereo whenever I listen to this song.
Thank you so much for putting this up! Ilya Gaft is my Grandfa...i can't wait to tell him this is on here!
I do feel that the choreography was done to the music, not the lyrics..but that may just be me. And only my Grandfather truly knows...<_<
Thanks again,
QLF

Why do all the fat guys think they're gonna be dancers nowadays?
Owlzindabarn 2 years ago
Perhaps we hope that audiences will appreciate us as dancers, rather than being incredibly shallow and unnecessarily insulting?
